In July 2002 I accidentally wrote two bad cheques. One to blue basket for $5.14 on July 3, 2002 and another to cenex for $10 on July 4, 2002. My husband had just left me, he was suffering from drug addiction, cleaned out my bank account and with two young children to care for alone as a teen mom.
Fast forward ten years and thousands and thousands of dollars later that I have spent trying to recover from the financial damage my first marriage had left me in. My ex was in prison so all his bills went to me as well.
Now out of the blue, 18 years later I receive a judgement, a levy on my bank account, a notice of seizure to garish my wages for over $2000! From two cheques totaling $15.14 in 2002. From my calculations that's an interest rate of 32%. I understand there are other fees and that charges occur, but none the less I am utterly shocked. How is this not usurious rates?
Not to mention, nothing of this matter was reporting on my credit report. I've had lived at the same address for over 8 years and my previous address for almost 10 years. I have been employed for many years and filed my taxes. I'm not burning the money bands these days, but I'm not complaining either. I most definitely would have taken care of this when I was able and if it had been a reasonable request amount.
It has been over ten years since I have been notified of this cheque debt and it has also been very few and very far in between that any attempts have been made.
I was billed for a apartment move out. My roommate and I were both billed the same amount. My parents and my roomates parents were also filed against. Both of our parents settled the claim. Then 3 years later they came to me and filed another judgement against me for the same claim. I produce the paperwork of the settled claim and they continued with the judgement against me. I had my check garnished, and I was never served. I have paid the claim and I have turned it over to a lawyer. I was told by the lawyer it will take up to 3 years to get my money back. They are ruthless and have no legal sense. They will stop at nothing to continue to keep getting money and ruin your credit. They do NOT follow the law and when the judgement comes it is to late as you never even knew it was filed. You are noy given notice to respond. They falsely claim that you were served.
The collections Bureau Services in Missoula MT will be nice nice to you on the phone. They will then turn around and clean out your account as soon as you have $1000.00 in the account
I just called them and talked to a Dave who said I did not make the payment "LAST" month.I looked and I had missed it after 14 months of payments. Did they call or cut me some slack? NO Dave said you missed a payment it was their right.
Look out if you are thinking of dealing with them. They take EVERYTHING in the account and leave you with the resulting overdrafts, AND the $89.00 the bank charges for "Paper Work"
