I gave my daughter a Fitness Membership as a Christmas Gift a few yrs ago. I signed up and let them use my credit card on file to bill my monthly dues. A yr. later my daughter was incarcerated. I visited the facility to cancel membership. They told me I needed her ID etc. I told them that they were charging my credit card and I want it cancelled. They gave me acct# and told me to write a letter to an address they gave me. I did so. after 2 weeks I got an email saying they need my daughter to cancel it. I got fed up and put a "Frezze" on the membership, which they offer for 3 months. Then I sent them an email to cancel the membership. Well, i thought all was fine till I noticed they are still charging me. So they owe me about $200.00. I just called my credit card and closed the acct and had them reissue me a new acct. #. Please note that if you do this to make sure the credit card co removes the recurring charges from the new acct.
I was previously a member of Club Fitness in Dover. While working I was seriously injured. I had severe lacerations on my arm, torn tendons, torn ligaments and the bones were separated in my wrist. Being unable to drive following the incident, I called Club Fitness to let them know that I was injured and needed to cancel my membership. This was after I had been registered with them a year so it shouldn't have been an issue. I explained I couldn't drive and would need time before I could get there. I was told I had to speak to a manager and they could do nothing for me until this occurred. Not wanting to be charged a monthly fee for something I would not be using for at least 6 months, I found a ride there within the next few days of this phone call. No managers were available and I was asked to fill out a request paper so a manager could call me , yet I would again need to come in. I was also told if it was a medical issue they would need a doctors note, all just to cancel a membership? My arm was in a cast and it's my dominant arm so I couldn't even fill out my own request form. Fast forward a month and I called two more times, each time no manager was available. Once I finally spoke to someone, she told me that they had called me 3 times with no answer (my phone records prove otherwise) yet they never left a voicemail. I was told it was in the notes on my account and now that I had a past due balance they wouldn't cancel anything until I paid that. The person I spoke to was extremely nasty and hung up on me before the conversation had ended. I've still not paid the past due balance as I contacted them long before a balance was due.
Signed up at the local gym because they offered certain things the others didn't. Aqua Zumba at times where people that work can enjoy and also tanning was included. Two huge and only reasons I joined there over the other gyms that are actually cheaper and now a better place. Club Fitness cancelled classes without notice making staying at that gym almost not worth it but they still had the tanning beds so I stayed for that. This spring they now decided to get rid of their tanning beds, again no notice because with that gym you have to hear through the grapevine. Very unprofessional. They stopped what they were offering to their customers.. I'm not leaving because of anything I did.. I'm leaving because of the services the gym is taking away from my membership.
I was told from the beginning I would pay 10.00 to join and just 10.00 for the months to follow that I use. Sounds perfect right? The guy who had dread locks behind the desk took my money and signed me up. I later got charged 19.95 every month plus they conveniently forget to tell you that there is a charge in December of 29.00 for just a yearly fee. For what?? I paid the 10.00 fee for joining at the beginning. After several months of being charged the higher fee, I explained my issue of being charged more than what was said to me and now want to cancel. They made me write a letter of cancellation and I mailed it to the St.Peters, MO office. I thought everything was taken care of. I am now receiving phone calls from a debt collector who wouldnt listen to my side of the story. She said she will be calling me again and I said no don't call me anymore. If you tell them to stop calling you they are legaly binded to do so. I made a documentation of date of call.
