City Storage Wilmington Reviews
Locked me out after the 2nd day of the 5 day grace period (on 6 occasions, not once but 6 different times) to guarantee that I couldn't move out and that I paid another months rent AND that I couldn't consolidate multiple units into less units. The owner, Erik J Hemingway, lied to my face and told me that the "lock out issue" was a "computer glitch" but an employee told me that "they we losing money because people were moving out during the grace period, so they changed the grace period to 2 days." The owner, Erik Hemingway, had toxic floor covering laid without any notice before or after, that is a known carcinogen and causes respiratory issues. When I went to move out, I was unable to move because the fumes were so bad that I got nautious and a headache after only 20 minutes inside the facility because the ventilation is so bad and the fumes were atrocious.
I had over over $15K+ water logged and ruined when the roof leaked into my UNIT # 278...it took Erik J Hemingway, the owner, 4 days to meet with me. When he finally did, he showed up with his 5 year old son to our business meeting, then he told me that the roof didn't leak and that "(his) my contract is IRON CLAD" and "that is what insurance is for" without any remorse or care for my belongings. Erik Hemingway also told me "you don't pay your rent."
Beware, make no mistake, once YOUR stuff is at City Storage, you are at their mercy to let you into their facility, and Erik J Hemingway has no sense of urgency to let you back in once you are locked out! I paid at 10:36 am on 10/29 and did not receive an email (or any other notice) from City Storage that it was unlocked until 5:29 pm the NEXT DAY, 10/30. Why does it take 32 hours to give gate access. There is never anyone on duty and no one checks the facility at closing to make sure it is secure. One time I went by at 9:30 pm and the main outside door was wide open to the public. After I left, I drove back by at 11 pm, an hour after closing (after the toxic floor covering had been laid a few days earlier) and the sliding door was STILL wide open without any employees present. The facility had been left open intentionally by the owner, Erik J Hemingway, to let the facility "air out" from the toxic fumes because the floor covering was over applied. When I notified Erik J Hemingway, his response was "ok, I'll pop over and close it." Was he going to leave it open ALL NIGHT??? It is "supposed to be" a SECURE FACILITY but if the owner wants to, he just leaves it WIDE OPEN without any notice to his customers, lays toxic floor coverings or locks you out of the gate. Absolute worst storage experience of my life. Why? They don't care about their customers or their belongings...only their MONEY.
