Citizens Bank Reviews

Please Do Not put your Trust or your Money into Citizens Access, Citizens Bank or now called CITIZENS. They have the most Rudest Customer Service. Some of their Customer Service people don't speak very good English. Hector and Shay are very Rude.

When you ask for a Manager or Supervisor there's never one available or they are in Meetings all day long which is Not True. You have to wait for a Call Back, which never happens. If you want to do any ACH TRANSFER OUT. they do a TEXT EVERY TIME, the TEXT is either Severely Delayed or NEVER comes through, Same as the Email.

CITIZENS will NEVER let you do a ACH TRANSFER yourself, you have to let them do it for you, from a so called BACK OFFICE. Also they will ask you alot of PEREONAL QUESTIONS that you have to answer or they REFUSE you ACCESS to your MONEY PERIOD. The Request takes a couple to a few days to Request your ACH TRANSFER, then a Couple or Few more days.

So that being said it will take approximately 4 to maybe 5 days for transfer to be completed. I am still waiting for my funds to be transferred out. Even if you can do a ACH Transfer yourself it still takes Several Days for the money to move.I Don't Trust this Online Bank at all. Please Do Not Deposit any of your hard earned money in this Bank or Online Bank.

Also when you establish a Deposit, Do Not Allow the Bank to PULL the Funds from your External Account because it takes 5 Business days or longer to have the Funds Clear, Closer to 7 Days. If you want yo deal with POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, Headaches or Hassell gaining Access to your money, Go Right ahead and deal with these Totally INCOMPETENT.

Again you can do what you want, I am not telling you Not to do any business with this Online Bank, its up to you it's your choice what you do, but if you don't want the hassle or headaches from this Bank, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND and HIGHLY SUGGEST doing Business with a Different Bank. I can not wait until my Account is CLOSED. Please Check out ALL their REVIEWS, it's a TERRIBLE BANK ALL AROUND

Also your INTEREST will NOT be CREDITED at the end of the month and will NOT be CREDITED on the 1st of the Month either. They claim they don't Operate like OTHER REAL BANKS do, in FACT they wait to Credit your account 30 DAYS AFTER you OPEN the ACCOUNT, they DO NOT CREDIT in the morning, they WAIT until the END OF THE WORK DAY to CREDIT you your INTEREST that you earned.

INCOMPETENT BANKING ALL AROUND. NOT HIGHLY RECOMMEND AT ALL. Stay away if you don't want the Hassle and Headaches.

On the night of 8/15-16 a duplicate billing appeared on my card, and on an email. I stated, on the email, that 'did you authorize ALL of these transactions'. Because the email showed one transaction being removed from my account twice, I stated NO, meaning I only authorized the transaction once.

I telephoned Citizens Bank, which took about 20 minutes because they do not want to talk to you about this at night! In the end, I could speak to a person, who told me that no the Citizens Bank's computer said I had said I had listed that I listed both transactions.

I have on my iPad the video showing that I did press NO but once I had told the person twice that his computer listing was a mistake, he not only hung up on me but did something to my account so I cannot call again tonight, the phone people for Citizens Bank say I MUST go to my local bank.

So when I call up about fraud, Citizen's Bank not only hangs up on me but also prevents me from calling them again

NOT a bank you should use

Thats nice i dont have overdraft protection with citizens bank and instead of declining my transaction bcs i didnt have enough money like there supposed to do they let it go through and made the account negative which is what overdraft protection does (that i never agreed to sign up for) how does a bank just do what they want against what i chose not to sign up for?

So basically the bank can choose whatever they want to do with my money...

i told her way i am not wearing a MAGA hat even though i do support President Trump she said your hat is about killing my people i say your people and we got into it, she would not cash my check and i called the 800 number then i got a call from MS bertinalli another latino and she said i hate you Vets had the cops come to my house and told the cops i tried to kill myself, and she did not want to give me the $650.00 in my account then i talked to several other vets, and they got the same treatment.

This women all are Latino and part of the left wing latino solicist movement which with the far left is treating vets, then i get a letter in the mail and it said if i go near that bank they wanted to have me arrested i took the letter to the police station and they told me the hell with them i send why should i get treated and they took my money closed my account without me knowing all my checks for all my bills bounced, i got late fees for everything, and got my water shut off because they cancel my account without me even knowing, after meeting with several vets this is a movement, the female latino solicist movement and they are attacking vets everywhere, when i called they main office in RI they were all women and all latino,

This rip, off report, I am making for my 81 year young Mom. My Mom, wanted to try and make a couple extra bucks on interest, Citizens, was offering a 2.5 % interest on a 15 month C.D. The, only stipulation, it required you have $10.000.00 in your checking account. I am on my Mom's accounts, to try and make sure she does not get Ripped OFF. We both went down to Citizens Bank, the other day, and spoke to a Dane, Dane tried to explain to my Mom and myself, how the above worked, I believe Dane , mentioned to my Mom, he could put her into a different checking account, which would not require her to have thew $10,000.00 in her checking account,??? This Dane, said he would E-Mail me, the papers backing up what he said, supposedly, his computer was not working properly, bottom line I never received letter that Dane said he would send. Now, Mom goes back down to Citizens bank, and found out, she was put back into the other checking account, which she still has to have at least $10.000.00 in her checking account,,??? Now, wait it gets even better, At this wonderful Bank--Citizens Bank, in order to get free checking, one has to have at least $25,000.00 in their savings account, other wise there is a bunch of different fees that one may be assed.

In my opinion, I don't think the average person now a days has $25,000.00 just laying around to be eligible for Citizens outrageous quailfacations .

Mom, just told me, she is going to leave it alone, until the C.D. matures on June 2019, so in the meantime, I guess Citizens is doing just what they want, and in my opinion, they are just taking advantage of elderly disabled senior citizens,??? Do you think this is a proper way for a finacial instatution to treat the public ??? My Mom, presently. is driving around in a car that is over 20 years old, and she was hoping to get another vehicle, but because of the outrageous qualfications that Citizens Bank, has that is making it very hard for my Mom to be able to get another Car,???

Can, anything be done , to prevent this Citizens bank to continue to treat their customers the way they are treating them ???

Personally, My wife and I bank at Huntington bank, we get free checking with our checking account, we do not have to have $25,000.00 in the savings account to get that, We.opened up a C.D. at 2.2 % interest, we did not have to have $10,000.00 in our checking account to get that feature,??

Mom, had mentioned that it did not seem to be very busy at this bank, well after reading all of the above, I told Mom, this is probably why they are not very nusy ??

Just, thought I would voice my opinion about this possible scamming instatution in my opinion, as my Mom, would not , plus she does not have a computer, I remember doing business at this location, back when it was, First Federal Savings and Loan, about 50 years ago, How things do change, Thank you for letting me voice my opinion, Sincerely; P.J.

The employees are poorly trained and the culture is such that the customer is a baby who the bank is babysitting.

One branch manager violated my privacy and contacted a third party of a check I tried to deposit. She called the third party to inquire about the endorsement and when the branch manager was not satisfied with the endorsement, she held onto my check for about 10 days or more and refused to mail it back to me (I had mailed it to her) because she was afraid it would get lost in the mail (when she received it by mail). I had to insist that she return to me my check that she rejected. I deposited that same check at another bank without any problems.

They took nearly 3-5 weeks to provide me with a bank letter that I requested. And their typical processing time is 7-10 business days which is very slow compared to other banks who have provided this the same day.

When an employee gave me a "bank letter", she may as well have written it in crayon it was so unprofessional. I had to ask her to sign it, I had to write the date on it, and she didn't type or write her name on it. So, there is really no way anyone could verify this "bank letter".

They continue to show incorrect address on my bill pay checks no matter how many times I request that this be corrected. I have requested this by phone and my mail many times.

The employees knowingly violate various laws and will insist they they are not violating the law only on the basis that they have been "doing this" for many years (doing it wrong for many years). Arrogant.

An employee refused to notarize a document only because it could be altered after he notarized it. This violates notary law. But the notary's only duty was to witness the signature, not promise that a document could not be changed. Really arrogant person. He then sent an email to all other bank notaries, in violation of law, telling them not to notarize my document. Another bank notary notarized the document anyway; knowing that the first notary was being retaliatory.

They lied repeatedly about reason for refusing to make funds available. The fact is, there was no reason to refuse to make funds available. I discovered that they apparently had never seen a check from Western Union and just assumed it was fraudulent when I deposited it. I had to prove to them with written documentation that I received the check from Western Union.

If you spend your balance down to zero, they close your account the same day. They call this a soft close, and your account can be re-opened if you make a deposit within 30 days.

They violated federal law regarding the right to dispute credit card charges and canceled the debit card in retaliation, and didn't mail a new debit card. I sent an email asking to dispute a charge because I was not satisfied with the product. I received a response by email that said, "Thank you for reporting fraudulent use of your debit card. We are cancelling your debit card." But I did not report fraud. I later received a letter thanking me reporting this fraud by a merchant that I never used in the past.

I am not sure that the people who read emails understand English because I will send an email and get a reply that has not relation to my original email.

Their computer systems seem to be incapable of handling high-volume bank functions since I often get letters that have no relation to any transaction I had.

The only reason why I opened an account with them is because they are open 7 days per week.

Worst bank ever.

My wife and I have maintained a joint checking and joint savings account originally with Charter One Bank, now currently Citizens Bank, for well over 20 years. They were always fair to deal with in the past until recent years. We had a feature enabled, Automatic Savings with Overdraft Protection that would move $50.00 from our checking account into our savings account, and if we overdrafted checking, the difference would be transferred from savings and we would incur a $6.00 fee for the transaction. Our complaint is that the fee escalated to $12.00 per transfer, applied 4 separate times, and still incurred a $35.00 overdraft fee for a total of $83.00 in less than one week.

I had made a cash deposit on a previous Saturday, which did not post until the following Monday. Upon viewing our account information online Monday evening, I had noticed that our savings account had a negative balance, which should not be the case ever, it should zero out. There was a positive balance in our checking account. I immediately made another cash deposit the following day to balance the account, and was then made aware of all of the fees we had incurred. Needless to say I was very upset, customer service was useless and I felt totally ripped off.

I never received any notice from them that there would be any shortage in either account. If I had been contacted I would have settled it as soon as I possibly could. Another issue we have is how and/or when they post transactions. Had my cash deposit on that Saturday posted immediately because it was cash, it would have covered any pending transactions. We are entirely dissatisfied with their current service and are closing our accounts.

After having my home taxes appealed Citizens Bank refuses to send back my $13,220 of escrowed money to me or the town that they collected the money for. I received tax credits for 2 quarters and have made 10 plus calls to Citizens Bank to get the appealed tax money back. Instead they continue to keep my escrowed money interest free for Citizens bank to use as they wish. Each phone call is 30 minutes plus going from promt to promt, then person to person with no result. They continue to frustrate you so you stop calling and they use your money for free.

I opened my bank account with Citizens Bank not even 3 months ago and a few weeks ago I overdrafted my account and had made deposits to cover the excruciating overdraft fees and I made two deposits that would more than cover the amount that I had overdrafted and today my ATM card was "captured" and I made phone call after phone call and was given the run around, finally I spoke to the branch manager and he told me that the bank was ending their "relationship" with me. I feel that not only was I not treated as a valued "citizen" but I feel that I was also discriminated against. I would advise people not use Citizens Bank, TD Bank, or Bank of America as they are all about the money and not the people that use their institutions.

I just reeived a letter in the mail from Convergent Outsourcing which is trying to collect on a debt which I do not owe. This debt was illegally created, thus making me owing it obsolete.

I was a customer of Charter One bank in the mid 2000's and ended up overdrafting my account. I had paid up the account to a minimum of zero dollars, but I do believe I was a few dollars in the black. Well the next day I was hit with an extended overdraft fee of $29 which then ballooned somehow to $223.59.

Those overdraft fees were illegally added to my account. I should not be in collections and should never have been in ChexSystems. I am highly upset by this ridiculous bill and am now looking to take legal action if this account is not removed from my credit report permanently.

My account was in Ohio at the time.

This bank is nothing but a joke. Constantly messing with my finances. The numbers never are correct. But this mess up is big. I deposited $200 and was only credited for $100. Have been fighting for two weeks to get my money back and am getting no where. Unprofessional. They try to be way too personal and not professional. Should have listened to the warnings before I started banking with them. Nationwide complaints with them. Dont bank with Citizens Bank! Its not worth the hassle. They just take your money!!!

I had moved to Cleveland, OH in October of 2014. I had been with another bank for almost 17 years. However, the closest branch was 3 hours away! Since I insist on the ability to bank "in person" at times, I felt I had to switch banks.

I opened an account with, what was Chase Bank at the time. Imagine my surprise when three days later I see that their "shingle" now read Citizens Bank! I was never told about this.

Upon opening my account I told the woman that I did not want overdraft protection! It's a wonderful tool banks have used for years to rake in more money for themselves. I also discovered that Citizens Bank is the only bank in the Country that charges, not only the $35.00 overdraft fee (which should become history soon) but they also charge $6.99 a day for up to 10 days! Did I mention that this additional fee is nowhere to be found in any of the documentation I was given when I opened my account?

I also made it clear I was disabled, thus living on a fixed income. I told them I would set up two payees that would come out of my checking account automatically. I succinctly explained all my needs and, mistakenly thought that I had covered all my bases. Was I ever wrong!

After leaving Ohio I couldn't wait to go back to my old bank. So I phoned the bank manager of the branch I used and told him of my intentions to close my account once every item had cleared. I was then given the balance and wrote a check to open my new account.

All seemed fine...until I called Citizens on a whim to assure that my account was closed. OOPS, seems one of those automatic payments went through even though the account was supposedly closed! I'm shocked when I find out that I had a negative balance of $131.00!!!!!! WHAT??? Seems a payment to my life insurance company for $34.16 was paid after I closed the account!

Not one to be taken for a fool, I sent a letter to the US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs. I also wrote to the State and Federal members of Congress in both Pennsylvania and Ohio. Not surprisingly I found out I wasn't alone. Please go to the following link if you are interested in the success of the lawsuit against Citizens Bank. There is always the possibility of a secondary lawsuit if anyone has since felt raped by this particular bank.

These people are the biggest thieves ever. I over drafted my account, had money transferred to cover it and got a second overdraft fee because they said I didn't get it in the bank in enough time. When in fact I did. But because this was the second time they did this to me they refused to give me my money back. They try to use confusing terms to make you think that you did something wrong....but the fact of the matter is, I took the appropriate steps to rectify my account and they kept charging me fees. They scrambles the way my transactions posted to make it seem like I didn't make. a deposit at the time that I did. They are thieves!!!! Don't bank with them!!!
