I am writing on behalf of my elderly mother 83 and 84 year old aunt to help us to get a refund for cancelled trip.
On July 19, 2021 my elderly mother (age 83), purchased an online trip from CheapCaribbean.com to travel to Mexican Riviera May Mexico, Barcelo Maya Tropical All Inclusive (Dates November 17-24, 2021). She also purchased a Standard Travel Protection Plus Plan offered by CheapCaribbean.com to ensure that this trip is protected and she can cancel it at any time. She also talked to an agent to confirm that the reservation is fully refundable and she can cancel it any time.
Agent told her that the only non-cancelable portion of the reservation is the airfare (airfare policy). Total cost of the trip, including airfare and travel protection insurance $4,246.57. She used my credit card to pay a deposit of $2,730.10.
With increased number of COVID 19 cases, we have decided that traveling outside of the US is unsafe at this time and contacted CheapCaribbean.com to cancel this trip. First time I spoke with a CheapCaribbean.com representative on 7/28/2021. The representative told me that the cost of airfare is non-refundable (airfare policy). However, I contacted airline directly, and airline refunded cost of the tickets in full to Cheap Caribbean within 3 days. The airline representative also informed us that tickets were refundable and Cheap Caribbean lied that the tickets cannot be returned.
On July 30, I contacted Cheap Caribbean again, informed them that airline refunded the funds, and requested to refund the money to us in full.
Cheap Caribean representative did not dispute that the company received the money from the airline, but told us that the company will not refund the money to us. Cheap Caribbean will give us a credit which we can apply for any future reservations within 1 year. I kindly explained to the representative, that due to Covid 19 and age of the travelers (83 and 84) keeping credits with the company is not an option. And if my elderly mother and aunt understood, that “refundable” package with a protection plan means “refundable for credit to travel in the future" they would not have made this purchase during the pandemic.
I asked for a supervisor. But my request was denied
I would like peacefully to resolve this dispute and receive a full refund. I called company 5 times, ensured that they received funds back from the airline, explained the situation but was unsuccessful. I also explained multiple agents that the package with full protection plan is advertised as fully refundable, which in reality is not the case.
On behalf of my 83 year old mother, and 84 year old aunt I am asking for help to resolve this case and receive money back from this company.
At 1:55 Central Time, on 6/20/17. I checked in to Areomexico, 24hrs in advance of our flight. I also paid for 2 bags. Thinking we are all set for our trip, I went to bed. When I woke up later in the morning, I saw that I had received a message from Aeromexico stating at 3:11 on the morning of 6/20/17 after I had already checked in and paid for our luggage, that our flight had been changed to 6/19/17 +2. (This appeared to me and Cheap Caribbean that they were saying the flight left on the 19th) I immediately called Cheap Caribbean to see what was going on.
They informed me that they had not received any changes and as far as they were the concerned the flights were the same but they would contact me once they investigated. It got late in the evening and nobody in our group of 14 had heard anything from Cheap Caribbean about a flight change other than Cheap Caribbean saying that they hadn’t received a flight change information.
We started calling and they would say they would call back and never did, so we kept calling and finally re started talking to a gentleman that was really trying to help, but let’s face it we were hours away from our alleged departure flight and had no answers about when we were actually flying out. This went on for hours. The gentleman said its getting late, if you want to get out I am going to have to break the individual families/groups within the groups up to get us out on 6/21 we reluctantly agreed but stated that each booking group had to be kept together.
Well low and behold around 10 pm central time, the gentleman called back and said that he had everyone booked and he kept all the individual groups together except MINE. He had my husband flying out at 7 am on 6/21 getting to Cancun at about noon and myself and my 2 sons flying out at 8 am on 6/21 and not getting to Cancun until about 8 that evening. I told him that that was unacceptable. He then told me that was all that he could do. I knew that their policy was that if the flights change less than 24 hrs, that you could find your own airfare and they would reimburse up to the cost that was paid for your initial flight.
He asked that we give him a chance to find the flights, but again I was not satisfied with what he gave me so I told him to cancel my whole trip. After I told him to cancel my trip he was dismayed. I really don’t lie this at his feet but he was the person helping so I guess he has to be my point guy. The conversation after he told me that there was nothing else he could do for me fell on death ears and I eventually hung up in the middle of our conversation.
When my husband came home from work and asked if the situation had been resolved, I told him what had transpired and he suggested that we try to find our own flight out and deal with Cheap Caribbean when we returned from our trip. We even went as far as to make sure that our out flights that Cheap Caribbean booked us on to Cancun were canceled. For the stress and drama we endured, I believe we are in the least, entitled to the airfare, taxes and penalty we paid to American Airlines in the amount of a little over $800.00.
Falsely advertises resorts by allowing resorts to remove bad reviews. Most of the one star review are based on issues to do with the whether or something not to do with the quality and cleanliness of the resort. I heard that this went on but then I found out there is a monetary connection between Apple Vacations, who own Cheapcaribbean.com, and the resorts. We just got back from a resort that was at best a 3/5 star, Now Sapphire in Riviera Maya Cancun Mexico. It was listed as a 4.5/5 resort. We call the night we arrived when we realized it was not what was advertised. Cheapcaribbean.com said they could not get us moved to a different resort because it was 100% non refundable. OK well we made the best of it. But you can not trust this site to give you an unbias view of the resorts. We will go through a travel agent next time.
