I searched for change of mailing address online and it was the first link to pop up. NOwhere on the website does it talk about charging $40, it states only $1. I was charged automatically $40.
I would like to be refunded this amount, I have contacted the website with no reply. They now have all my personal information, including banking info and address and also Social Security number.
I went online to change my address via usps.com. I have done this before, and I know it only costs $1! Somehow, I got redirected (I am sure I Googled it and accidentally hit a sponsored link) to www.change-usapostaladdress.com.
This site has been formatted to look very much like www.usps.com and it fooled me. I put in my information and my first whiff of trouble was when the website did not confirm the total to be charged... uh-oh.
Sure enough, I check my statement and they charged me $49.95!! I tried to call the number listed but it does not work. Of course not. I filled out the Contact Us form on their website but I am sure I will not hear back. Normally I consider myself pretty internet savvy and I am quite piqued to learn I have been charged $50 in tuition for the school of life. :(
I hope this report will help someone - make sure you enter www.usps.com in the address bar of your browser, don't Google it! I cannot even do a charge back because I did the charge, I hit the box accepting the terms and conditions - it was completely my fault, really, but it is still a scam to charge people $50 for what is only a $1 service that can be done just as quickly and easily through www.usps.com.
I went ahead and cut off my card and ordered a new one to stop them from hitting it again (another favorite approach of these types of scams). Great, now I get to find out which of my bills I forgot were sent to this card, and replace ALL the information on ALL my legitimate business transactions! JUST what I always wanted! /s
Change my postal address is a scam it comes up on a google search as the post office change of address form and then bills you 39.95 for an ordinary change of address.
