I hired Champion Windows (Atanta GA location) a few months ago to replace windows in my family room. Their salesman was here about 3 hours, espousing the virtues of their windows. I told him I wanted these new windows to look like my existing windows, as I was not planning on changing all the windows in my house. I wanted one metal latch in the middie, to match my other windows. Also, I asked the the transoms above the new windows, be "wrapped" (covered in the same vinyl clad aluminum the new moldings would be covered in outside on my deck.
Installation day came, and the wrapping outside was done shoddily. Also, the windows looked like plastic, and has 2 plastic looking latches on each window. Finally, the transoms above the windows were not wrapped as promised.
I called my saleman right away, and he spoke to the installer by phone and asked him to please wrap the transoms. The installer said he didnt' bring enough material to do it, and would come back at a later date to do it.
After several calls and emails to Champion, a manager came out to my house. He said it was impossible to use a metal latch to match my other windows, as they only use vinyl clad latches (that look like plastic). He also said they could not convert a 2 latch window to a 1 latch window. He went ooutside and agreed the wrapping was shoddy, and sheduled someone to come fix it. The fix was eventually some colored glue, which looks fair, not great.
A subcontractor came out to wrap the transoms above the new windows, but said he couldn't do it, other than my gluing pieces of vinyl together, and that it would look terrible. My transoms are curved, and that presented the problem. The sub said the only thing that could be done is to use PVC to cover the transoms. He did not have any PVC.
I called Champion to tell them what their sub had said. I left a voice mail, but never received a call from Champion agreeing to do this.
I called H*** D**** and they can out and said they'd by happy to do it for under $900. I called Champion and left them a vm with this info, telling them I'd pay them the 50% balance I owe them, if they'd credit my account to the extent I could pay H*** D**** to do what Champion promised to do.
Champion has said their contract did not include wrapping the transoms. The salesman acted the entire time as thought it did. I don't understand window terminology, sufficien to understand how the salemsan referred to the work to be done in the contract.
Champion is now threatening to file a lien on my house.
