Cavalry Portfolio Services LLC Reviews

I went through a rough time during the recession and worked very hard to pay my debts and to get through it in one peice. I didn't owe a whole lot of money, so no one got really screwed. For me it was more, losing much of my income, having to give up my apartment, downsize my life, and basically start over.

I've been undergoing a self initiated program of rehabilitating my personal credit situation, for the last 2 years, and it's finally begining to pay off. My credit score is moving up up up, and I'm finally on the low end of "Good" and moving up... In another 6 moths or year I sould be fully back in the good graces of the credit gods.

I work for myself, and the negative impacts on my credit score, and my inability to access credit in the aftermath of the recession really hurt. It's taken years and years to get to this point.

The other day in the mail I recieved a letter from Cavalry Portoflio Services LLC, offering to allow me to settle an old debt from HSBC-Orchard Bank. The letter clearly states that the "offer" is good until 02/11/18. It also states: The law limits how long you can sue on a debt. Because of the age of your debt we will not sue you for it, and we will not report it to any credit reporting agency.

For the record while the recession was a traumatic time for me, and something may have slipped through the cracks in my memory, I do not recall having this debt with this credit card company. And even if I did, at this point I sort of feel like I have paid my dues -- in terms of suffering the punishing effects of a hammered credit score, and everything that comes with that, for all of these years. I do not recall THIS particular debt showing up on my credit report -- though I'll do some research to see if I can find an old copy of a report to see if it's on there -- it is not on my current report.

So my question to this group is:

What is their game? They're just trying to get me to send them some money, by sending me this letter, in hopes that some lingering guilt will cause me to mail them a check?? It seems like legally they can't do anything. But if I do nothing, I'll be on the receiving end of these letters from them every few months -- forever? Or until they decide to give it up? Part of me wants to call the number to speak with them -- to dispute the debt, and to tell them to stop contacting me. But another part of me says, don't open that door. They can't do anything, so don't give them the opening to begin any shinanigans. I don't want to do anything that will begin the ball rolling on any unintended consiquences.

For the record -- if this debt is valid, I most likely lived in NY at the time. I live in CA now.

Any advice?

Well, They purchased a credit card that was written off from a bank, they sued me for $10,000 and now trying to Garnish my wages on a debit they don't really own. They purchased this debit for pennies on the dollar and now will not call me to work out an arrangement, I will lose my job and also lose more than that. I dont make much and i am a father of 3 with custody and struggling as it is. I need help and don't know what to do. Just refinanced my home and can't afford a bankrupcy, but that might be my only course of action. Its unfair, my student loans worked with me and also my bank, but this company will not.
