Cascade Financial Technology Corp issues a prepaid card via Sunrise Bank under the name eVantage Prepaid MasterCard or Cascade Prepaid MasterCard. I took out a $1 membership for the new Planet Fitness opening in my area in August 2017 in May. The gym opened two weeks early. Without my permission and no notice, they charged my card. Again, I did not receive any notification that my card would be charged or that the membership had actually started. Though the gym was not opened, the membership for the $1 started immediately, though I did not have access to the gym I signed up for. I could go to another location miles from my home.
I never went in to activate my account. Being handicap, I did not have a way to get to other locations. So, I decided to wait until August, when the gym was "supposed to open." Since there was no money when they charged the card early, they charged a $20 insufficient funds fee.
I called to inform them that they charged my card without my permission on August 1. They told me that I would have to go to the location where I signed up. As I stated, I handicap and had to wait for transportation. When I went in on August 7, I told the person at the desk who I was and what happened. They told me they could not adjust my account. I told them I wanted to cancel my account and requested a refund. The young lady acknowledged that my account had never been activated. She went to speak with the manager. She came back and told me that I would receive a credit on my account within 30 days.
Thirty days had passed. I called the Planet Fitness to inform them that I had not received my refunds. After checking my credentials, I was told that I would not get a refund because I did not cancel until August 7 and it had to be done by August 1, though my account was never activated, even though I called on August 1 after learning they had already charged my card before August 1.
I called eVantage to file a complaint. They sent me a document which stated to return it within 10 days and they would return my funds until the investigation was complete. I took sick and did not get the form in within 10 days. I thought no problem, I just have to wait until they completed their investigation. My request number is #118130.
Months past. I heard nothing from eVantage. When I called, a Miquel told me that my 90 days was not up because I did not get the form back on time. I waited the required time and heard nothing from eVantage. I called back and told Miquel that I was waiting for my funds to be returned. He me that he would check on it and call me back. He never called back. I waited some time. Again, he told me he would call back after checking.
Now we are in the New Year, when I call back, he tells me my claim was denied. I asked him why didn’t he call me back as he said he would. Then, stated this has never happened to me. They allowed a company to keep my funds when my account was never activated. I told him that I wanted to speak with someone in the department who made that decision. He tells me that it was done by a third party company. I asked for their number. He tells me that he does not have it and he would call me back with it after further research.
Weeks go by. I call him today January 26, 2018 and I tell him, every time he tells me that he will call me back, he never does. I requested the number of the company again. This time he tells me that it is an internal department that he has no access to. I call him on his lie. He tells me that he’s sorry for the mix up and he had no information to provide me. I told him there was no mix up, he lied.
This is outrageous. Planet fitness knows that I NEVER activated my account. They charged my card early, therefore when I went to use the money on my card, it was not there and Cascade Financial Technology Corp allowed this. I'm on a set income. I can't afford to just lose money and the card company gives me nothing but lies and poor customer service.
I have not put any money on my eVantage Card since and I to believe that they received my refund and just kept it, with the lies they told me.
