This "school" is one guy that is 70 years old and blind in one eye so I'm not sure how he is actually a USCG certified captain at this point. He is also NOT located in Raleigh as his website would lead you to believe. He is based out of New Bern over 2 1/2 hours away.
After a year of trying to reschedule a cancelled class, I still have not sailed and he refuses to provide a full refund.
There are plenty of other sailing schools out there with qualified instructors that are physically fit and have flexible policies and care about providing a great sailing experience. Don't give this guy your money!
Full Story:
Signed up for a small boat sail class a year ago at Jordan Lake near Raleigh and the class was cancelled and rescheduled 4 times over 11 months. Kept cancelling class due to "weather". Seems like it was always too much or too little wind. One of the canceled days, I went to the lake and actually saw other sailboats out! I suspect he really just didn't want to drive from New Bern to Raleigh. He will cancel classes at a moments notice without having seen the conditions on the water. Anyone local knows that the wind patterns on Jordan Lake (or any large body of water for that matter) can change rapidly and the forecast is often incorrect.
After nearly a year of emails and attempted reschedules, he refused to provide a refund and when I contacted via email about getting my money back he refused to refund my money and was very rude and unprofessional referring me to rebook on his website (which was broken) when he previously was fine rescheduling via email.
Overall, a very unprofessional instructor and a disgrace to the sport of sailing.
