CareerExcuse Reviews

CareerExcuse.com has a great idea. If you do not have job references or simply don't want your references to know that you are looking, they provide (fake) references that will say positive things about your work. They'll even make fake companies in your local area so that the references look legitimate. At least, that's the promise.

I used CareerExcuse.com in the past when I was doing contracting and was bound by nondisclosure agreements. I wasn't allowed to use my real references to find another role. CareerExcuse.com worked great then. HOWEVER, the company has changed. Jennifer Shanahan is now running the show and simply cannot/will not deliver.

She was more than happy to take $225 from me, but never got the references going. She blamed IT issues and then simply stopped responding.

There are other services that do the same thing that CareerExcuse does. I would recommend using them instead. By the time you have gotten to the references stage of a job interview, there is too much on the line to trust to a company that won't respond.

CareerExcuse.com has been around for 12 years and seems to have some credibility in the reference for hire market. Unfortunately, past performance is not an indicator of future results. My experience, after paying out $200 to CareerExcuse.com, is, FORTUNATELY, no results. I say "fortunately" because each time I spoke with Jennifer Hatton, "senior partner at careerexcuse.com", she was slurring her rabbling words while insisting I listen, yet again, to... I don't even know what she was saying but If you have ever ended up sitting next to the drunkest person at the party, then you have heard Jennifer's story.

The websites used by CareerExcuse.com , as well as their wildapricot portal, are hallow marketing ploys. After wasting a few days of my time promising a professional, well supported reference, Jennifer offered to "sort everything out by text" - but she was just too busy to actually do that day, or the next... - not that I would ever want Jennifer to speak with a prospective employer.

As far as I can tell, the service consists of Amey and Jennifer personally fielding a call from your prospective employer and reading off some boilerplate reference. At best, CareerExcuse.com is a drunken mess that will beat you out of 200 bucks and do nothing.

I made the mistake of trying to fix gaps in my work history by using this service. I only asked for two references doing things that I have experience/education in anyway, so I figured it wouldn't hurt.

When my free month got close to running out, I called my references to determine if the service was worth paying a monthly fee for, as well as had a friend call them too, and neither one of us got through to anyone. I contacted three different employees/e-mails, as well as their general support e-mail, to ask why no one could reach a reference, and no one bothered to respond.

Because of that, I said I wanted a refund. No one responded to that either.

As bad as it may sound, I still think they provide a sometimes necessary service - when they actually provide it and aren't just ripping people off, that is. Especially people who obviously cannot afford to be ripped off, since they are looking for a job!!

However, since I wasn't actually provided a service, and their customer service once I paid was non-existant, I am going to have to call "RIP OFF" on them.

No services were provided in exchange for $300 money sent online. I have already found a job and don't need her service anymore. I am moving out. No services were ever provided.

Jennifer from career excuse was suppose to provide the service.
