Capital Billing Service, LLC Reviews
Capital Billing Service sent me a letter on 9/15/15 to collect a fraudulent debt of $999.00 for Reader's Subscription. I was immediately suspicious since the letter did not tell who the debt was for. I did call and was able to get through unlike others who filed reports. I spoke to Neil Landon, Ext 104 who talked at the speed of light. He said that I allegedly subscribed to a magazine service in 2012 for $49.95 per month with a 2-year commitment and I allegedly paid for 2 months. Said this was a verbal commitment and that I needed to respond to their letter within 30 days to cancel. He said that I could dispute the debt, but if I did I would not get the very generous settlement that they were offering - a "whopping" $399.00 off the bill.
He at first said he would send me another request with the company information there and gave me the number to contact them about details. Capital Billing Service had my name, address, birthdate, phone number, and the last four digist of my Master Card credit card number. I do not have a MC credit card and never use my MC debit card as I have had issues in the past with fraud.
I sent them a dispute registered, requiring a signature from them.
Readers Subscription is not a company I have ever heard of or done business with. I could not find any information about them on the Internet, suspicious in and of itself.
My understanding is that if I did not respond to Capital Billing Service's letter I would be held liable for this bogus debt and have my credit ruined. I will send my rebuttal to the credit services should they actually contact them to attempt to ruin my credit.
Eighteen complaints this year alone (all since April) tells me that this is indeed a scam!
On august 28, 2015, i received a letter in the mail from capital billing service saying i owed $1,048 for a "readers subscription service." this was news to me. I have never used, nor seen an invoice, bill, or noticeS) of default from this company. My credit is pristine, and i pay all my bills. I called the number provided and had to leave a voice message. They did call me back later that day, saying i committed to buying some magazines in 2012 I made two payments with a credit card and then defaulted, ya ya ya).
After reading the exact same story over and over again on this is clearly an organized and illegal scheme. I asked for the contact information to readers subscription services, and they only provided me with a phone number (866-936-3726). I've tried calling twice, and they refuse to talk to me regarding this "account."
As is my right, i filed a dispute and initiated an investigation with capital billing services to provide with me detailed information regarding their company and readers subscription service, as well as detailed receipts and invoices You know, proof) regarding this debt. The legal burden is on them to provide proof the debt is real. If they are unable to, i will be contacting an attorney.
I have filed an ftc complaint on readers subscription service, as well as a ca attorney general complaint on capital billing service. I don't know if there's any way out of this, but i will put up a fight.
I recieved a letter (first of it's kind) saying that we owe exactly $999.00 for "Readers Subscription services." It is also threatening to report us to credit agencies to destroy our credit.
It also says, "unless you notify this office within 30 days after your receipt of this notice that you dispute the validity of this debt or any portion of this debt, this office will assume this debt to be valid."
I've made an attempt to contact them but never have got them on the phone.
I recieved a letter in the mail claiming I owed $898.00 to a company called Readers Clearinghouse. After many attempts I finally was able to speak to somebody at Capital Billing Services who stated that I had made a verbal comittment to receive magazines for 5 years, had made several payments and then stopped paying. I have never heard of Readers Clearinghouse and never made any commitment to subscribe to 5 years worth of magazines.
I have never recieved any communication to include mail, phone call, or electronic communication from any company named Readers Clearinghouse. If they can send me magazines you would think they would be able to send me a bill. After searching the internet I see that there are numerous complaints which are almost identical. They have threatened to report this to Credit Reporting Bureaus and seems that their main intent is to falsely intimidate consumers into paying debts that are not valid. I will file an official dispute of this charge as I am not a party to extortion and theft.
On August 11, 2015, I received a letter from you Capital Billing Service. It was a collection notice for $949.05 to a company that I have NEVER heard of Readers Subscription Service. Account #90352228.
This is my official notice to you that I am disputing this debt and all portions of this debt. I have made multiple attempts to try to call you Capital Billing Service at the number you provided on your letter at
1-888-507-1027 and was put on hold each time and then transferred to voice mail each time.
Nobody ever called me back after leaving several urgent messages on your voice mail.
My dispute includes:
- I have never made any kind of agreement, neither verbally nor written, with said company Readers Subscription Service or any other magazine or publishing company.
- I have never been contacted by Readers Subscription Service by phone, mail, or email.
- I have not agreed to receiving any kinds of magazines or any other publications from them at any time.
- Readers Subscription Service has not sent me any bills or payment due notices.... ever.
- Readers Subscription Service has not called me offering deals on magazine subscriptions or publications.
- I have never heard of Readers Subscription Service and I have NEVER had any subscription with them.
- I have never received any billing or communication from Readers Subscription Service.
- I do not feel that I owe any money to Readers Subscription Service because I have made no such agreement with them to receive magazines or publications. This is a fraudulent magazine scam.

Feels like a scam........
On November 16, I received a bill for $938.85 for an overdue account from Readers Clearinghouse. I've never heard of these people. They must sell magazines. We've never received any mags. Have tried to call these meatheads. Always have to leave a message. So far, they have not called back. Judging from the amount of complaints that I have read, these guys are in big trouble, as in the form of a scam. All of these complaints are all the same. With the exception of the amount, which I see are all very close. I see there is no way to give a negative star rating so I'll have to go with 1 star. I guess I'll have to wait and see if they call me back.
It is not Right

i rcv a similar letter as the ones mentioned in the other reviews stating that i had a verbal agreement with readers clearinghouse in 2013(never did and never heard of them) and that i owed $938.85. Have tried to call readers clearinghouse and capital billing with no results. this is definitely a scam and don't fall for it. they are hoping you will send them the money no questions asked. if you dispute the bill you'll never hear from them again.
re: Capital Billing Service
Only wish I could give this bogus company less than one star !! Today October 13, 2015 received "the letter" - that they are a collection agency for "Readers Clearinghouse" and that I owe $878.90. This is FRAUD AND A SCAM !! I have never heard of this company Readers Clearinghouse, nor bought from them. I did email Capital Billing Service and told them I would NOT pay for a fraudulent bill. Filed a report with the BBB in Los Angeles and am hoping that takes care of this. Same thing happened a few years ago with another company out of Arizona...they insisted they had me on phone tape ordering the over $2000 in magazine subscriptions. I told them I would see them in court as it happened on the day I was supposedly recorded I had spent the day in the doctor's office and hospital with multiple medical tests !! Last I heard from them. These people should be arrested !!
