I went to Camba LegalServices on the advice of someone from Housing Preservation and Development to prevent the landlord from repeating what he did, which was to illegally hook up a line to my gas meter. This time to my electric meter. I needed a tenant advocate.
What I experienced at the Camba office made me very angry. As I was preparing to tell the worker about my situation, another woman without any regard for the fact that I was even there barged in. The worker walked away to help her, also disregarding the fact that I was there befor this woman.
Camba receives state and federal funding. Later when she came back, I was told they woudn't take my case. I was never given the chance to tell what was going on. They never told me why.
They are supposed to represent all of Brooklyn, and all people regardless. Yet I was told they don't represent my area. They weren't being truthful.
They receive funding. they are supposed to represent everyone equally, not discriminate. If that's what was going on that's illegal. The message was subtle, but came across loud and clear. there was no mistaking the message, i wasn't welcome.
They should be doing all they can to help everyone equally, not discriminating, or exacerbating and contributing to the problem.
