I made the mistake of choosing California Lace Wigs when deciding which wig provider to go with and $1,000 later I am heartbroken that I did! I suffer from androgenic alopecia and was drawn to a section of their web page that claims that they specialize in working with clients suffering from medical hair loss and using their expertise they will work with you to guide you through the process. These are two paragraphs taken directly from their website:
Hair plays a significant role in the lives of many women. A woman's hair is the first physical characteristic one notices. Hair loss is not only a cosmetic concern, but my create feelings of vulnerability. Losing your hair can be one of the most devastating things you will ever have to cope with. We all know our self-image affects our self-esteem, and when hair loss occurs, it can become very emotional.
What sold me though was this next statement:
California Lace Wigs, adheres to the medical guidelines for hair loss prosthesis.
Upon placing your order you will be assigned a personal consultant who will guide you through the process of ordering your hair replacement. Your invoice will read "Cranial Hair Prosthesis" to match the prescription written by your doctor for the submission of reimbursement to your insurance company.
When I initially placed my order I had emailed back and forth and decided to go with a "natural brown". I was told that natural brown came in shades from a 1B to a 3 and so I specifically asked for hair no darker than a #3 and stated specifically on my order form that I was willing to wait as long as it took to get this shade. I also asked for highlights in a light ash brown. After discussing this with "my personal consultant" I placed my order however after continuing to email over a seven hour period of many, many emails I was convinced by my consultant that I didn't need to take the unit to a salon for further color customization because they were known for their excellent success in color matching. I had provided them with a picture that I wanted to color match and was promised they could do so.
I paid $1000 and was so excited as I waited for my unit to arrive. Trust me $1000 is not money I come by easily but I needed something that looked realistic because hair loss is embarrassing enough! When my package arrived I just about died! What they sent me looked like something out of a Halloween costume gone wrong. The hair was black and was mixed with stark, skunk white highlights. The unit looked absolutely nothing like the picture we had all agreed on and what I came to realize is that none of the details that I had worked out over hours and hours consulting with my "personal consultant" had ever made it to my actual order and to make matters worse, they did not even provide the #3 hair I had purchased, they instead just put through ANY natural brown which in my case turned out to be as close to black as you can get. (Pictures attached).
I went back and forth with the company who claimed that despite written proof of our work together, the mistake was my fault. They did offer to take the unit back and try to color match it as they had committed to the first time but when I asked what assurances I would be given if it went wrong a second time I was told that there were none. If they took it back and got it all wrong again I would not get a refund! I returned the unit to CLWW but they refused to sign for the package and that is when I went to PayPal and asked for a refund only to discover that PayPal has no mechanism to demand a refund if YOU HAVE PLACED A "CUSTOM ORDER". The minute you place a custom order CLWW can provide you with something that looks nothing like the product you ordered AND THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING YOU CAN DO TO GET YOUR MONEY BACK!
If you read the other review on here you will get a sense of what can and does go wrong with custom orders placed with CLWW. Essentially, once they have your money they feel no obligation to their customers at all and if it goes wrong it will be you on the hook and not them! Please carefully review the experiences of other clients on various sites....they are NOT good and when you approach the owner with a problem you quickly realize that this is a woman who couldn't care less about you or the quality she puts out there....as long as you hit send on that custom order form she doesn't have to care! If her lack of effort hit HER in the pocket book she would care really quick..but it doesn't it hits you!
I purchased a loose wave hair 27/30.....hair will not form to wet and curly, it frizzed so bad I had to go to a professional for a style. I had this sewned in
everytimeI brush it , hair was loss.
I only had this unitl 4 weeks, and now I am totally BALD at the top and the back of my head.
I am so disappointed, I wanted to believe this hair was not shedding, I am out of $500.00. So Disappointed, Be smart, don't buy from them.
Omg thank you all so much for the reviews, I had been researching full lace wigs for about a year and was ready to purchase from California lw. Ill pass on clww
I received my Juanita - Kinky Curl full lace front piece March 16th 2016 about a 1.5 weeks after ordering. When I first received the wig I loved it, it was a bit to big, but that was my fault for not ordering the correct size. The curls were gorgeous and it was easy to comb through. When I would want to have my curls defined all I needed to do was spray some water. However, three weeks into wearing the wig I noticed it was starting to MAT!!! I noticed the curls were not as defined and water and conditioner was not helping with the matting. Now at one month this hair looks nothing like it originally did when I took it out of the packet.
Prior to purchasing the wig, I looked at YouTube video reviews and saw positive reviews. However, with the quality of this hair these people had to have been paid to do a review. My own hair does not mat like this hair does. I have quality hair products so I know this can not be the problem. I use Diva Curl on my natural hair and have no issues, however, with this wig the products do not help much. I do not sleep in my unit and take care of it, thus I comb it to remove sledded hair, thus, try to reduce the matting, but none of this works. I have been gradually cutting the hair when the matting gets ridiculous, but I feel this is unfair to me. For the price of these wigs they should at the minimum last a year.
I would STRONGLY recommend you DO NOT purchase from this company. I rarely write reviews, but given the expense of this unit I felt it was necessary so I could potentially help prevent someone from making the same mistake I made. If I am able to I will more than likely upload photos and a pic of my receipt to prove I have had this wig for a month and the horrible condition it is in. Some people suggest I knot wear it as often.
However, I feel for the amount of money I paid I should be able to wear this unit EVERYDAY. I purchase Indian hair and have had a full sew in that I wore for 4 months and guess what, I STILL have the hair and can use it again with no issues. This is NOT at all human hair and if it is it is before the worse quality hair I have purchased. BEWARE
This company is absolutely horrible. I ordered a custom made unit named ERIKA and was looking forward to wearing this stylish unit. However, I was disappointed with the received product which looks nothing like the unit on their website. I reached I to their customer service via live chat and was advised to send an email to their customer service explaining my reason for a return as the unit looks nothing like the picture on the web. I received an email from Annette Jones (Renee) the Customer Care Manager explaining they do not offer refunds for custom units. I spent over $500.00 and out of this money, yet will not enjoy the pleasure of wearing. This is really sad and they should be out of business....
