It has been extremely hot and I needed an AC unit for my apt. I'm on a fixed income and a single woman in my 70's. A friend was helping me with the cost. I wanted to go local so I found Harry Irvine online. I called in for an estimate. Took a week to get one. He came over seemed nice enough and I set up the app.. I was called and given an estimate of $726 for an LG floor unit plus labor. He and his worker came and stayed for no more than an hour and when he was through gave me the bill as $740, which was more than I was quoted.. I've been alone most of my life and do not know a lot about appliances. I made the mistake of thinking I was dealing with an honorable source . Not once did he explain anything in detail about how to deal with the unit. Just shoved a bunch of papers at me. I was never given a receipt or account of the work done. He did mention that I needed to drain the unit and when he showed me where it was and pulled the plug, water came spewing out.
I would think a brand new unit would not have accumulated water if it hadn't been used before. Now I'm wondering if I didn't get a used AC unit. I had a few concerns and called him asking for clarification. His response was that he didn't really want to be bothered by my concern. I spoke with a neighbor with whom I share a driveway and she spoke of how rude he was to her. Later she said she researched my AC model and said it was priced under $400. So I figure he charged me over $250 labor for less than an hours worth of work. I called again for help with the unit but he has never gotten back to me.....all I can say is he saw me coming. I would never do business with California Air Condition, Inc again, nor would I recommend it to anyone else.
