I am a freelance write. I was offered a remote (from home) position from CalArk through a website called UpWork.com. This position allows for freelance writers such as myself to earn some money doing something we love. The position was removed as soon as I was extended the offer. This is unusual.
CalArk sent me an interview request for a remote position proofreading documentation they send to their clients (whom I'm assuming they deliver to). After looking into the company and the position a little more, the company had horrible reviews as a whole. I looked on the Better Business Beurau website to see they are not an accredited company.
I received an email with an offer letter for me to sign. I noticed that the email addresses do not match those on their website (my contact was using a gmail account whereas the company email addresses are @calark.com). My "supervisor" instructed me that I will contact him through Google Hangouts (also weird).
I was then instructed that they will be sending me a check for my office equipment. No legitimate company sends a check to purchase office equipment. The check will bounce, you will be penalized, and there will be nothing you can do about it.
I called the company and spoke to the HR manager, who informed me that they do not offer remote positions and to report the abuse to UpWork, the website they found me. Once I received that call, I messaged my "supervisor" to let him know that I will be declining the offer. After two minutes, his email was removed from my contact list (not my doing) and there was no answer to my message.
I see that there are many people on here reporting the trucking company itself, but this is definitely something I needed to share with you all who are looking for a remote position as such.
