Burgess Seed and Plant Co. Reviews

Burgess sent wrong order. Ordered "Raspberry Collection for all Seasons" #NC 3887. Was sent "Mammoth Red" collection #N3578 instead. Plants were dead upon arrival. Instructions said plants were 'dormant'. Planted plants per following instructions. Nothing happened -- plants were dead. I wrote to Burgees several weeks ago about the error---no reply. Called several times --- the line was always busy no matter what time of day I called. Very poor costomer service--if any.

Fraud company kelly nurseries ,four seasons, direct gardening, burgess all under one ownership. When ordering from all three companies like my wife and i did, we found packages that had the wrong contents in them and different tracking numbers.

they bulked two of our orders together and we files a theft report because it said someone picked up the package. the package was four seasons. our burgess order came in with seeds and it had the wrong tracking number. it was the one for four seasons. hmmmmmmmmm. started internet search and all 3 have the same one block location in illinois.

still waiting for the rest of my orders if they come in. im still missing several plants.

First order arrived dead. I planted the twigs and rootstocks they sent in good soil and watered them anyway, but nothing grew. The same thing happened after they sent the replacement order -- all dead twigs and rootstocks.

The company then refused to refund the $78 I spent as well as live replacements, saying they already made good on their warranty to replace once. So now I have no live plants and I've lost $78, along with two growing seasons trying to get dead twigs and rootstocks to grow. Total Rip-Off -- don't buy from this company!

I'd like to preface this by stating that I'm a Master Gardener, have a small farm operation, and have been gardening for over 40 years; I really don't think the problem is with me.

Plants arrived in horrible condition, some of them pretty much dead. When I tried to get replacements, they told me to go ahead and plant them first and see what happened. What happened was I wasted my time and garden space planting dead peppers and tomatoes! They SAY they have a money back guarantee, but don't you believe it.

I also bought 24 of the hybrid willow - almost $100 right there - and not a single one came out of dormancy. It was really no surprise, since the bareroot stock arrived without any protection whatsoever on the roots. I followed Burgess procedure, mailing them back the original packing list and a request for refund or replacement. They RETURNED my letter, and one of my packing lists (not sure what happened to the other packing list). I then collected all the dead trees and shipped them back to Burgess - at my cost - and still nothing. By this time 6 months had passed and I had no recourse through my credit card company - planned by Burgess, I imagine - so I filed a complaint with the BBB.

About 18 months after the original purchase, they sent me replacements for the trees, and a voucher for $20 (not that I will ever buy from them again). Even though it was almost winter, I had no choice but to plant the new trees - which arrived in the same condition as the original ones, I might add - hoping they would thrive. It is now spring, and not a single one has survived.

I followed the instructions that came with each plant. I soaked them and all. I planted them and hoped they were just domant. A month later I realize they are just dead. I wrote the company because that was four of five dead. The fifth was still struggling. I have not received any kind of response and I'm out of 30 dollars. The one thing that lived was the one I got for free with the order. I am just so disappointed.

It was back in February 2017 when my parents made a large order for me as a birthday gift of my favorite flower called Rose of sharon. My father called the customer service dept 2 times just to confirm and verify that they would not be sent out until mid April due to being in zone 5b ehich they confirmed both times that the order would be released mid april. On March 24th to my surprise I received a packaged, the label said happy birthday love mom and dad so i called them right away to thank them but was wondering what to do with them as we just got a snow storm not long before. After talking, we realized a few issues that my father explained

to me 1 being, they were not to be sent until Mid April las confirmed and assured each conversation and #2 being that the full order was not received. I was to receive 4 small 3-1 rose of sharons as well as 40 large Rose Of Sharon Hedges.

The package only came with 4 3-1 and 4 large hedges and thr shipping label confirmed thisnwith the weight being only 6 lbs, that made the order short 35 hedges so i immediatly called them and explained the 2 issues. I was advised to wrap up the received plants in wet newspaper, keep chenging it and leave in a dark place until the ground was ready to plant. She agreeed and advised that the

shipping dept sent them out too early "its been getting warm" where they were, were her exact words. She apologized for the mistake and assured me resolution if they didnt make it. I was then advised that the rest of the order would shortly be shipped in a few weeks. A few weeks passed, not order, i called again mid to end of April, they said they didnt have any information of my call or shorted order and then advised me that I had to tear the lable off of the plastic red bag and mail it back. After a few more phone calls asking for a supervisor i eneded up spending more money to send the label back in hopes to a quick resolution so i could

finally get the rest planted as i had already planted the ones i received which appeared dead but was advised that theybwere "dormant". I even put a tracking number on it due to my gut feeling and reading others reviews of the same sitation. I sent the lable out on May 1st 2017 with a 3 day delivery and a letter as well as the label. I confirmed via usps that the packages was receieved on Thursday May 4th. I waited a few days in hopes of a phone call. I eneded up calling them and they said nothing had been received. I then advised them that i have a tracking number on it and the womans tune changed. She stumbled over her words and

said they may havr not added it io the system to wIt a few more days. I asked for a supervisor to call me as soon as possible because i felt as though i was being tossed around. After a few more days or about a week, no call sp i again called back and was advised the label was received and i would receive my order in a few weeks. At that point, i noticed still that the branches of my hedges were brown, no green and appeared to still be dead, she advised me that my request for the 4 hedges being dead is being reviewed and that someone will call me. Here we are now in June, i called again and was then advised i only had 14 days to send back the

dead plants or send the shipping label whicb i didnt have, they had it. I asked for a supervisor to call me back and she said they cant call out. Thisbwas the first i heard of this after a few requests. At that point i was overly frustrated because inwasnt getting anywhere with anyone. Here we are in July, nothing received still, no refund, no call, no email, no communication so i called again to find out where my order was and they said they never recieved my label! REALLY?!?!? I received my label back in the mail with a little im sorry letter from their company. She advised me that theres nothing in my order requesting a shipment. I explained the ones i did

get are dead, i wrny into the explantion of the beginning of this and she also agreed that there were issues with the shipping dept sending out orders too soon but, i only had 14 days to send them back. If i would have been told this in the many earlier conversations inwould have sent them back with the label! If i would have known they were going to die, inwould have sent them back, if i knew i was going to go through all of this justbto get what i paid for i would have called my credit card company to submit a dispute. This is where i put an end to all of this and advised thrm that its too late in the season to send anything out and i no longer

wanted to do business with them. I requested a refund for the 34 hedges and 4 dead hedges and was shot down and told to send an email to them requesting this so i did and the response was exactly what has been told to me in conversations, asking if i sent the label back and so on. Enough is enough, this company makes you jump through hoops to fix their errors, pay extra money to fix their errors in hopes that the customers will give up and let it be. I am not a customer that will just let it be. I want my full refund. How can this compqny get away woth this legally? The reviews online are horrendous and are basically the same complaints. I need

help, we need to put a stop to them stealing momey from customers. This is theft. Last rmail and last conversation that i had was I REFUSE TO TAKE ANY SHIPMENTS FROM THEM after all of this, i do not want to do buisness with an untrustworthy company suvh as Burgess and requested a refund. Its too late in the season and i will be traveling the rest of the summer. I should have recieved this full order by mid to end of may or even June. I will not let this issur alonr until proper reolution has bern made by refunding me for 40 Rose Of Sharon Hedges as well as if possible, 4.50, the cost to mail their label that they already had a copy of when it was mailed. Thank you in advance. I truly look forward to hearing from someone.

They sent in place 2 sad looking pine apple plant. Note indicated Papa crop due to failure. I received and email back indicating that they have the right to send other plants in place of the original orders???

I ordered 2 papaya plants for my mother for a gift on Mothers Day. Instead I received a note on two smaller dead looking plants that indicated that there was a crop failure and this is the replacement plant. Pine Apple plant? I believe they new there was no Papaya plant from the beginning and continued to offer the plants on their website. This is misleading.

I tried several times to contact Burgess on there customer service line. Constant busy signals. I sent and email requesting a full refund. I received a email note back from Customer service basically telling me they have the right to replace the order.

Very generic email that they probably send out to everyone.

I am very unhappy with this company and want to make sure that no one else orders from Burgess on line or by mail orders.

I have used Pams trees and they have 100% customer service and return policy that is simple and they do not replace your plants with something else. That is so misleading and disappointing.
