We met Gil Finley about a year ago. We thought it would be an awesome chance to build our business, make some money and also some new friends. We couldent have been more wrong. Gilbert Finley is a general contractor out of Murrieta, Ca.
Over the course of a year, we did quite alot of work for this guy. We spent our own money on material, gas, etc. The very first job we went too, the homeowner complained how Gil was un-reliable, dishonest and just all around a headache. It then turned into EVERY homeowner seemed to have a problem, from taking to long on the project, to asking for money, everyone seemed to have a problem. In Gils words, "with as much work as i do, someone is always going to be unhappy".
At first, he would pay, but then then the payments started getting few and far between, but as Gil put it, "he always kept us liquid". Well, liquid doesnt pay the bills. He would invite us to his home for bbqs, take us all to breakfast, he really did act like our friend, that was the worst. When we would ask about payments on a completed job, he would always seem to have an excuse as to why he couldent pay, such as, he was in the hospital, Home Depot owes him, a check bounced. He even gave the excuse that a llama attcked him and his balls were swollen. SERIOUSLY! He would always respond with how he a big job coming up that we would make money on. He always deflected from the topic of payment.
He would always say how he wanted to pay, but was just going through some hard times. We fell for it. We trusted him, and it was a mistake we will never make again. He now owes us $15,000 on 22 different jobs. 3 months of him saying he would pay, and we finally filed 22 complaints with the contractors board. He gave every excuse in the book to the contractors board, had his laywer send us letters demanding us to drop the complaints, and today i get a call from the CSLB that we need to take it to civil court because even though we have the invoices for all the jobs done, he is disputing them. Its frustrating.
All anyone needs to do is google Gil Finley reviews. ALL NEGATIVE. This is not right, we are not the 1st to get ripped off by Gil Finley, but i am going to do everything in my power to make sure we are the last. Contractors like him are a nightmare. People save their money to remodel their homes, and to have this guy walk in with the intention of stealing, is f*g bulls*. This guy needs to be held accountable for his actions. He cant even work within an hour of his own home because he has ripped off so many people. Its just not right.
