We purchased a home built by Bruce Kaufman Construction, closing in November 2018. Since then we have attempted to contact the builder regarding issues that need attention and correction. We have emailed him using an email address that we had used several times to communicate with him while the home was under construction and after. When we continued to pursue a remedy for the issues, Mr. Kaufman stopped responding to our emails.
The first problem is the garage door. It leaks at the bottom everytime it rains, with water coming into the garage at least 10 feet leaving visible water stains. The door leaks at both ends and center. This was occurring prior to our purchasing the home, and as of this date it continues. We have reported it to one of his employees, John who in turn contacted Bruce Kaufman with our complaint including pictures we supplied him. The garage door company who installed the door replaced a strip on the side of the door but this did not cure the problem of water entering the garage. They also attempted to adjust the door but that did not work either.
The garage door does not seem to be the problem. Mr. Kaufman then sent his concrete contractor, Litles Cement Finishing, Inc. representative to look at the bottom of the door and concrete work. He put on a show with a level attempting to dodge the issue then blamed the water intrusion on the light fixtures. Mr. Kaufman's employee, John is certain that the water intrusion is not coming from the light fixture installation. We were informed by that same employee that Mr. Kaufman's response was "That is normal seepage for a garage door that size." That is absurd, we have owned homes with a two car garage door this size, they never leaked once.
Another issue involves the front porch. The front porch is concrete with stain applied. The stain process is meant to look like wood. We were assured by Bruce Kaufman during the construction of our home that the porch would look like another home he had recently completed in the same community that had the stained porch. The staining on our porch is the worst we have ever seen. The stain is poorly applied and worse than shoddy. The stain ran and has come off the edges of the porch. The concrete contractor (again Litles Cement Finishings, Inc.) for Bruce Kaufman looked at the porch and said he was not going to do anything about it since a sealer had been applied.
He stated that he would notify Bruce Kaufman of his findings. We emailed Mr. Kaufman and invited him on more than one occasion to come to our home and look at the poor job done by his contractor. Mr. Kaufman again, refuses to do anything about this, not accepting our numerous invitations to look at the porch and the poor quality of work. His only answer when we first brought it up was it was supposed to look rustic. We know what rustic is. This is just poor workmanship. We provided multiple pictures to show the differences to no avail. Since we were assured by Mr. Kaufman during the construction of the house, that the staining would look as good as the other home he built in the same community we feel misled. There is no comparison in the appearance of the stain, not even close.
We have contacted paint stores, painters and concrete contractors that all dispute the claim that the stain can't be corrected since a sealer was applied. Sealer and stain can be removed so the stain can be applied for the correct appearance. Other concrete contractors have advised that the water intrusion at the garage door is not normal seepage and can be corrected.
As of 06.16.20 he still has not contacted us or had any repairs made.
