Hired to do some work on house I bought. First two visits ok since I was there. He said he charges $65 per hour (this includes materials used). 1st day he did some work, there about 2.5 hours charged me $180 which I paid by check. Next day he put in a thermostat which he said he would do. Only there 30 mins charged $70. Now the vanity he took out was left in the dining room. Both days, he did not clean up anything.
He quoted me $2500 for 4 things, put facuets in upstair bathroom(tub & sink), downstairs vanity and water line/drain for washer to be put in kitchen. Next time he was used my daughter was there. He put in 1 faucet for $150 only there 30 mins. I talked on phone with since my daughter was upset about what he was saying about all the work that needed to be done. Funny, he didn't tell me that. I told him no vanity just do the other items. Well he put the drain pipes for washer on wrong wall. Never did the bath faucet. He called and said need a backhoe and house needs new plumbing.
I am in Illinios and this new house is in Albany. I asked him how much he said a couple hundred. So I said go ahead. Well he did it but also did the drain outs or pull outs cause he felt they needed to be done so I wouldn't have to worry about it down the road. This was told to me after he did the work. Now he has told me the first visit the kitchen sink/plumbing was fine, no it wasn't since a different handy many found a leak that he already checked. Now I am getting suspisious. Then he tells me the hot water heater will need a new once since control panel is not working.
He check that in December when I was there and told me the water heaterwas newer and looked fine. So I asked how much $700. I said what about labor, he said no that includes labor. I told him no and he can stop working on house. He did not clean up his mess. Left the pipes on the enclosed back porch and a mound of dirt in the yard. At this time too I had another handyman doing other things and he said Brown doesn't fix things he only puts in new. The water heater could of been fixed. So frustrated I said how much to put in a water heater if I get you one, $150. So I bought a heater and my daughter brought it too him. Took 30 mins to put in.
The heater I bought was $399. Finally get a bill from Brown Plumbing beginning of March. He stopped work before 1/25/21 per my request. The bill was itemized with $500+ worth of items. He told me charges $65 all included. Then the back h*e charged 4hrs plus 4hrs labor...double billed. He owns the back h*e. I did pay him $1204 to date. After his bill I only really owe him like $150 with the totat bill $2004. He threaten to sue me. Neither one of us has anything in writing, just verbal. I did not give him permission for some of the work is billing me for. I am disputing the rest of bill for $800. Based on what he told me about charges. When I talked to him 6/9/21 he said well he could charge me $65 to clean up but he didn't he was doing me a favor. Ha. I still have the pipe in my yard.
