I filed a complaint against the State of California and they came back and substantianted several findings.
7 Class A finding were found.
Missed doctor appoints (would you believe they shredded the documents a week before the auditor arrived! That must be illegal, right?). Missed appointments landed my loved one in the hospital. 3 hospital visits later, she is now deceased.
Additional:
--Rude and uncaring staff.
--Med room staff untrained.
--Missed pain medications.
--Body rashes went unnoticed.
--Absolutely the rudest event ever when moving my loved one to hospice.
They are using the same playbook as Emeritus - nothing has changed. DO NOT put your loved in here!
Brookdale Senior Living establishments are dangerous! There are so many complaints all over the web they shouldn't even be able to operate. I've sent a letter to Andrew Smith, CEO/President, and 52 other people, organizations, agencies and government agencies. My mother was admitted to Brookdale Lakeway following major hernia/stomach surgery. Although they were aware she was coming, not one person greeted nor ever saw her the 1st entire day and night. A stranger showed her to her room. She pushed the nurse call button many times but not one person ever came. In pain and unstable on her feet, she made her way to the restroom. Having diarrhea while trying to make it, she pulled the EMERGENCY cord but not ONE person EVER came, NEVER!!! This was her 1st day and evening there. She also never received meds nor dinner/food.
The facility NEVER CHANGED HER BEDDING in 7 days and 6 nights. There were no bed rails for her safety although 3 different people told her 3 different times they would bring them. In her satisfaction survey they sent, she commented "This was a place to go to die." My Mother never complains but she has now understandably so. This huge corporation appears to only care about money, not healt care or safety. They had a 4.6 billion dollar revenue in 2016 and Andrew Smith was reported to have made $6,608,594 in total compensation. I pray some of those I've made aware of these neglectful and inhumane acts takes action to stop these facilities! A high probability of post traumatic stress disorder is possible to those who stay here. All of you who have complaints, and those I've read, please write your congressmen and everyone who can stop the neglect and/or abuse! Let's stop them! I'm more than happy to forward the letter I mailed to anyone who requests it. Protect our family, friends, strangers, PROTECT OUR ELDER!!!
Brookdale withdrew rental expenses from my chcking account for the entire month of october after i moved out in september and have refused to refund the correct amount in spite of repeated attempts to get the correct amount refunded
First, the integrity line has been called. I am a current employee and I am regretting that title. I have had problems since day one. I am not in a managerial role, yet I get blamed for their problems. If items aren't ordered so we can follow the menu, I get the blame even though I asked for said items. If I notice a problem with items when we get them I get called a liar. Each manager I have had has accused me of things I did not do and my 4th manager just quit a week ago. The last two were verbally abusive and I had to go through 3 EDs to get the problem solved. I ask for help and it its either 'solve it yourself because I don't have time' or it takes forever to get the help.
The new ed at my location is also a licensed social worker and she doesn't deserve to have one. In any other setting how she has treated me she would have her license revoked. I feel bad for the residents because they pay so much money and they have little services offered to them. Residents aren't getting the services they need and I am actually looking for another job and I will take what I can get. I have diagnosed depression and this job and the actions of management are making it worse. I feel like a second class citizen when I shouldn't. I should be able to get what I need to do my job but if I can't then its my fault.
I have never been a manager with this company and I refuse to be one. If I had known how badly this company is seen in the healthcare field, I would have never accepted the job much less referred someone for a job. You are supposed to be compensated if you refer someone and they get hired but that's never happened. I took a referral call one day and you're supposed to get compensated for that and I never was. I don't even want to walk in the door tomorrow- that's how over this place I am. DO NOT work here or have family move in. Go to a different center where they pay for and receive services they deserve.
Since Brookdale bought Emeritus assisted living (March 2014) the place has turned into a nightmare. My mother lived there for nearly four years (until Janury 2016). In the two years that Brookdale had owned the Las Vegas assisted living center there have been hundreds of complaints filed with the state health department (go on statistics.Health.nv.gov, you can see that the facility has had hundreds of deficiencies cited against them by the state). Between 3/2014 and Febrary 2016 there has been six different directors (all have been fired or left abruptly) so there is no continuity and zero response to family and resident complaints.
Last but not least Emeritus has a predatory pricing strategy. My moms rent increased from $1050/month to $1898/month in January 2016. On 11/7/2015 my mom signed a lease with a rate increase that put her rent at $1759. On 1/1/2016 she received a rent bill for $1898. When we called Emeritus they refused to provide a response and then charged her a $250 late rent charge for the rent stated in the lease (which she paid on 1/3/2016 for $1759).
She had no idea her rent had been increased to $1898 on 1/1/2016. We asked for a meeting with the director, Denuse Gray, and she said that this was just how Emeritus works. A week later she was terminated. Brookdale is truly a predatory and disgraceful company that is preying on America's elderly. There is absolutely no national oversight being provided by the federal government to protect and help seniors living in assisted living centers.
My husband was a assisted living resident. The Company is charging for several days he was not a resident. They charge a $3000.00 move in fee non-refundable. They charge for Personal Care services. According to Brookdale Senior Living (Carolina House) policy they offer itemized bills. I verbally gave two weeks notice per policy & am still being billed for time he wasn't living there. My husband has memory loss (Dementia) yet they called a cab & let him leave the premisis; stating they had no record of him having memory issues. His "in house physician" had no idea he was in PT, or that took a cab home. He was there for 5 months to the tune of $32,000+, had only one care plan meeting with only the then head nurse. The Company website main menu offers food that was NEVER on the menu. Several telephone calls to Corporate didn't make a bit of difference. They are as cavalier as the majority of the employees at the living facility. When I would ask one of the staff how my husband's this or that was doing, I wouldn't get any answers because the majority of the staff would state "I don't know, maybe so & so knows". I have asked several times for his medical records, to no avail. All the major personnel I dealt with are no longer working there. Very blessed he is out of there. Now I am dealing with a collection agency for less than the move in fee. Ugg!!
Brookdale bought Emeritus. My father, a 93 yr old 100% disabled WWII Veteran has been informed that continued care, as he has been receiving it for $400, will cost $4000 per month. He has to pay or move 30 days notice. They have discontinued Nurses on duty between 11pm-5am. This is a travesty.
