I am writing this report to warn others who choose to use Brittany Davis as a formulation chemist to create a formula for thier hair and skin products. I have worked with Brittany for approximately a year to fomulate one single hair product and have yet to recieve a stable formula.
During my search for a cosmetic chemist who specialized in my product type, I came across Brittany Davis's profile via LinkedIn. I sent her an inbox message and requested her to contact me. She sent me a non-disclosure agreement which I signed and she signed too. I also filled out the new customer form she emailed detailing the product she was to formulate. We then discussed the concept via phone and agreed on a timeline and dollar amount that I was to pay her for formulating my hair care product.
I already had a formula for Brittany to work with. Her job was to refine my formula and to make sure it was stable, wasn't grainy and had the scent that I wanted. Initially Brittany seemed very enthused and professional about working on my product. I payed her $600 as a deposit to start the formula. She informed me that this process will take six to eight weeks to have a completed formula.
This process turned from an 8 week project to a 1 year project. Brittany would send samples that were not close to the scent I wanted or the texture i wanted. She was slow to return emails and texts. She never returned phone calls. I decide to continue to work with her because I did not want to start this process all over again with a new chemist. I also wanted to avoid wasting anymore time. Thorughout this process I ordered ingredients to see if I could finish the formula myself because she was dragging her feet.
We started this process in January 2015. August 2015 finally comes around and I still had no finished formula. I called and email Brittany to find out when can she meetup so that we can really discuss the scent that I wanted. She agrees to meet up with me at a Strabucks. She did not show and avoided my phone calls and texts. She finally texts me a few days later to meet up.
After we met up she apologized and she sends me more samples which I did not like the scent of. Finally, I ask her to meet with me at my house and bring all her essential oils and I will have mine. We can then put some together to come up with the perfect scent. This process proved to work and I thought we had finised the formula. She sends me samples of this scent that was supposedly in the finished formula she had written. I loved the samples and was ready to wrap it up.
A couple of weeks later Brittany finally sends me the formula for the final product. I waited for the stability report which was to take 8 weeks. I recieve the stability report from her which stated that the product was stable and there was no settlement or seperation of ingredients found in the product.
I was satisfied with this and then proceeded to buy all the ingredients to create the product in-house. Once i recieved the ingredients I proceeded to put them together following the formula. The product was grainy, the color was off and it smelled horrible and nothing like the samples she gave me. I ordered over three-thousand dollars worth of product and equipment based on Brittany's formula.
I sent Brittany numerous emails and texts requesting her insight on this matter over the course of several weeks. She did not reply to any of my emails or texts and avoided my phone calls. She never replied, emailed or called me back. It has been a year and I still do not have a formula that I can put to market. I will never do business with her again. She is a complete waste of time and money. She is totally unprofessional when it comes to schedule and communicating with clients.
January 2015 to December 2015 and still no final product. I have requested my deposit back and will not pay her the remainder of the money for the formula because it is not correct anyhow.
I believe she gave me the incorrect formula so that she could keep it for herself or give it to another client. We signed an NDA agreement so this will be illegal anyhow. However, i truly believe that's what she is doing.
Although I wasted so much money on this I will use it as a learning lesson - when someone gives you glimses and red-flags of how they are it is best to cut your losses at that time before things get worse. Proceed with caution when dealing with her.
