Bluegreen Vacations Unlimited, Inc. Reviews

  • Jun 7, 2023

I was very interested in buying a time share from this company. I bought a three night stay with Bluegreen with the interest of the sales presentation for buying a timeshare to save money on future vacations for my family and myself. It seemed like an amazing opportunity. I do not suggest even getting started with these people. I was two hours from the resort and I called them to see if I could get a crib sent up to our room for my daughter. Apparently they got the booking wrong and only confirmed me for two adults, they absolutely refused to accommodate my family and refused to give me a refund. This was their mistake and they continued to lie to me to cover their mistake. They offered a small motel that I was skeptical about putting my family in. I believe they did this just to take our money. This is a horribly ran business that is out for money. Bluegreen Vacations has absolutely no regard for their time share customers. Do not entertain what they have to offer. I truly believe they did this on purpose to take our money, they knowingly booked me a room for two when I specifically said a room for four. It’s not like I forgot I had two daughters. They started lying to cover up their mistake. I wanted to believe this would be a great vacationing opportunity for my family, however I was sadly mistaken. This whole thing is a scam and they just want to take as much money as they can get. I can only imagine how much of a scam the timeshare is if lying is how they sale their vacation incentives.

After purchasing into this timeshare, Yes, Bluegreen Vacations is a timeshare. We realized how much they misrepresented what they were selling. They made it sound like we could go anywhere at any time. We weren’t able to travel to places we really wanted, it was always something we had to settle for because we didn’t have enough “points.”

This brings us to our next point. Anytime you do travel with them, you are practically forced into an “update meeting.” Which are mandatory, at least that’s how they make you feel. But with each purchase, your maintenance fees go up. This doesn’t make sense because most of our stays were not as well kept as they should have been. For example, the floors were always dirty. My wife packed a mop on every trip because she knew she would most likely have to clean the floor, and no this is not an exaggeration.

7 out of our 10 stays required a maintenance call to make repairs to the room in some manner, We called housekeeping upon check-in to clean (which should be done prior to us getting there!) Sweeping up broken glass, clean the kitchen or bathroom. We even had to ask multiple times to give us towels since we had none. I don’t know about you but this doesn’t sound like it is worth the $8800.00 we spent to have this. We need to move on and Bluegreen won’t let us go. Don’t do this to yourself.

Bluegreen timeshares are worthless. It is impossible to book any accommodations that are nice without purchasing extra points. The properties are not that great and not that clean. Their resorts always seem to be located in crappy tourist-trap locations like Myrtle Beach, SC.

When we stayed in Orlando one time, we were booked in the hotel which was crappy - not the newly renovated 2 bed 2 bath condos that were nice. So that was a bummer. Maintenance fees and save-your-points costs just keep coming with no real value. Bottom line: Bluegreen is a BAD Deal.

After a call to Choice Priviledges (Hotel Chain) I was told I would be transferred to one of their "Partners" so I could provide feedback about the call I just made.

Actually, I was forwarded to a timeshare sales person who was offiering a "2 night stay for 16,000 points" and that "I was lucky that I just got in on the promotion, which was supposed to end yesterday."

I told the person, Elizabeth (Rep #200792), "that I was NOT interested in the stay, and not interest in any presentation on timeshares."

She assured me that was not the case, that this was a "no strings attached getaway at one of their 17 resorts." I again told her I was not interested. She proceeded to continue telling about the great offer for two nights for 16,000 points, and that she would send me an email about the product "and "to let them know which property I would like to stay at; that Myrtle Beach was a location only minutes away from the beach." She also said "There are no blackout periods."

I again said I was not interested, as I already have a timeshare. Out of curiosity, I did look at the "terms and conditions" included in the email, and it stated: "+Reservations may not be booked for stays the night before, the night of and/or the night after a major holiday. Major holidays include: President's Day, Easter, Memorial Day, July Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day. One (1) reservation is permitted from May 15th through August 15th due to very limited availability." No blackout periods???

I checked my points balance on Choice Priviledges as I was going to make a reservation and discovered my point balance had been reduced by 16,000 points after the phone call! I had NOT agreed to anything.

Bluegreen Vacations stole 16,000 of my Choice Rewards points, which I am now attempting to get back.

My advice to anyone reading this: If your call is ever forwarded to someone who sounds like a timeshare salesperson, HANG UP! It's not rude to hang up on someone who is about to steal from you.

Bluegreen will not let me reserve any vacation time that I want because of blackout dates and not enough points. They lure my husband and I every year with $100 Visa card just to get us to upgrade and take more money, we go to Las Vegas the closest to where we live.

When we refuse to upgrade we can feel the attitude and tension in the room. The hour long meeting turns into two or three hrs. because they are pressuring us to upgrade. This is the worst decision that I’ve ever made.

We never received a statement or anything showing how much we’ve paid on our timeshare. I looked at my paperwork and they have us paying $140.00 a month for 10yrs. on a $8,000 mortgage that we can never use at our convenience. We are paying maintenance fees on property we can never use....

  • Jun 24, 2018

The annual maintenance fees are almost $900.00 and they increase each year. This year, we didn't get the annual statment for the maintenance dues. We didn't think about it as we are hardly ever able to use the timeshare due to lack of availabililty so it is a bit like "out of sight, out of mind". We did get a collection call from their collection agency, Pinnacle who indicated we could settle our debt for a fee that was $400+ more than the current year's annual maintenance fees. I called Bluegreen and they wouldn't even discuss the situation with me even though I said I was willing to pay 2018 and 2019 fees to avoid any such reoccurrence. Bluegreen indicated I would need to work with Pinnacle.

We have never been sent to "Collections" for anything. When I indicated to Pinnacle, I was willing to pay the annual maintenance fees (due for 2018, this is in June of 2018), Pinnacle indicated I would have to pay approximately $1,300. They weren't willing to accept payment for the annual maintenance fees and a reasonable late fee of around $40. I use the term "reasonable" when related to their late fees loosely, as that would imply someone at Bluegreen cared enough to reach out to their customers via a phone call before turning them over to "Collections".

I'm not going to pay almost 50% more when I feel "robbed" about just paying the maintenance fees on something that can rarely be used.

My son is Autistic. We put our names in a sweepstakes to win a car. He got a call for the prize while I was not home. He gave his credit card info. The $400 purchase declined. He told them to give the prize to someone else and hung up. Then that night he made a payment to his card, and the next morning, a full 24 hours later, BlueGreen Vacations resubmitted his credit card for billing without calling and asking for our authorization for this non-refundable vacation package fee.

Who does business this way? When the customer is through with you, what gives you the authority to charge them 24 hours after the their bank declined the purchase, and they have ended the conversation and hung up the phone? How many more times were you planning on attempting to put this through his credit card, after the phone call ended? It was put through again one full day later.

My mother recently died. While getting chemo, she made some very poor decisions including signing up for a timeshare with BlueGreen Vacations. I was able to cancel so I don't have to pay the monthly fees. The salespeople usescary tactics and prey on older people who don't understand the fine print. She charged it on the Barclays Credit card and now the estate (me), has to pay the balance of $9,800. She did not even get to take a vacation as she died right after signing up with these scam artists.

Beware Bluegreen Resorts! I can no longer sit passively by after my experiences with this timeshare vacation company. They engage in false, misleading and deceptive acts and practices by using hard sell tactics and misinformation to convince you to enter into loans and timeshare contracts that they lock you into for life! I thought that they only did it to us, but after we expressed how unhappy with our interactions with them, I searched the internet for Bluegreen and it turned up report after report of how much of a fraudulent and deceptive company they are when it comes to sales that induce you to obligate you to a lifetime of worthless timeshares with fees that increase every year! I have made it my mission to warn others about their practices by launching an online campaign: #bewarebluegreen. I will not stop until I have exercised every means I can to ensure that this company and its tactics are formally investigated.

Here's our story:

While on vacation, we were subjected to a lengthy presentation and facility tour. Originally, we were promised that the entire timeshare presentation experience would be 90 minutes, and then we could go back and enjoy our vacation. However, we were in the timeshare office no less than 4 hours! We were trapped! We had not eaten, and we were not fed. Well, they managed to convince us to buy a timeshare. However, the only reason that we purchased the timeshare was because 1) we wanted to get out of there and enjoy our vacation - the real reason we were in Savannah and 2) we felt that it offered great profit potential. During the original presentation, the sales-people told us of several stories in which Bluegreen timeshare owners rented out their timeshares for up to $800 per night during popular weekend festivals in Savannah, causing the owners to make great profit and be able to pay off their timeshares and maintenance fees early.

We purchased the timeshare for the primary purpose of family vacation time. However, the reason that we deemed it a feasible [affordable] purchase and a good investment was because we were assured by the sales people that some of the time that came with our timeshare could be sold as a means of paying off the timeshare in only two or three years. After this, our family could enjoy the timeshare for a lifetime, only having to pay the annual maintenance fees. Hearing this, we took the bait.

Guess what? I posted it for sale just like they said, and this is when I found out - like so many others who had the same idea of renting out their property - that the timeshare was worthless. As a result, I was never, ever able to get anyone to purchase the timeshare. It was cheaper for people to get a five-star hotel than rent my worthless timeshare!

Once we expressed to the company the worthlessness of the timeshare - something that they already knew but had failed to communicate to us - it was too late. They had locked us in for a lifetime. For the rest of our lives, we are locked in to not only paying hundreds of dollars every month for something that we cannot use or rent out, but we have to pay annual maintenance fees that go up every - single - year. With all that we have to pay to Bluegreen for the timeshare (which is limited to the U.S. and not to the Caribbean or international spots), we could afford a five-star vacation anywhere around the world! They care nothing about this. They will not allow you to get out of the timeshare contract without extensive damage to your credit, collections, legal fees, etc. What a ripoff bluegreen is... and I am determined to let the world know!

Took advantage of the Bass Pro Shops "getaway weekend" promotion last year at their Santa's workshop. For $199 and a two hour timeshare presentation, we got two nights at one of their "premier resorts". I just called to confirm my reservation for thanksgiving weekend and was told that we were staying at the COMFORT INN in St Augustine, not the Grande Villas golf resort. This is not how the promotion is advertised....they put you up in a two star hotel and then you have to drive to their luxury resort to have them badger you to buy a timeshare. Do NOT buy into this scam.

My sister and I Purchased a points based vacation ownership on August 19, 2016 in Williamsburg, VA. Was told we were buying 20000 points per year. Told we could use any Choice hotel for $89 to $209 per night, Told we needed to attend an orientation session to be instructed how to use what we purchased and all our questions would be answered. What a lie about the help to use what we thought we bought. They said the return trip would be on them. However, we find that when we attempted to schedule the orientation to return to Williamsburg, VA, we had to pay $49.

We were also told that we would have a 2 bedroom suite; however when inquiring at time of reservation we were told we had to pay $149 to upgrade. Also we were then told that our points would be allotted to us on Sept 1st of every year and that we could roll them over for a fixed price of $35. What a load of crock. The salespeople in Williamsburg had no intention to even trying to answer any question or inform us of such things as the cancellation policy, they just rushed us out the door and into closing. We were there for over 8 hours would no food and nothing but a bagel and muffin to eat. We were not informed about the cancellation policy nor was it explained in the closing.

When we called after speaking with the salespeople to cancel they said we couldn't and we adamantly told them that's a lie. Then they relented and gave us a number to call because they said all cancellations had to be done in writing. The number they gave us was not operable. We then googled the address and spoke with a marketing manager who was very rude and disrespectful; he too gave us the runaround. These unethical business practices that they used are all for the purpose of making sure new owners do not have the option to cancel. These tactics lasted all week long each time we called we got the runaround. When we finally spoke to someone that we assumed could assist us; 6 days later, she told us that all cancellations had to be done in writing and gave us a fax number to fax the cancellation letter. We followed the instructions to the letter; however the corporate office told us today that that we could not cancel because we were out of the cancellation period.

This is absurd. We were never informed of the actual policy prior to signing. This is unethical and unfair business practices. Consumers should be informed of the cancellation policy prior to signing the contract. The corporate office told us that it is in the contract along with instructions on how to cancel. However, the policy should also be verbally stated to make potential owners aware. But Bluegreen unethical tactics is to be silent about this important information as it is to their benefit to prevent cancellations. We are at our wits end as this is not fair practices as we did exactly as we were informed to do yet the state that we are still bound to the contract. Please do not purchase any ownership contract from Bluegreen Vacations they are rip-offs and the corporate office is fully aware of the unethical business practices used by their marketing and sales team to rob unsuspected citizens of their hard earned money and or pension. I could give you several more lies they told us at both locations, but you get the point.

BlueGreen Vacations aka Hyperion Marketing aka Great Destinations is a big scam.I was sold a vacation package for $276 by a hole in the wall office called Hyperion Marketing in Fort Lauderdale that is not owned by Bluegreen Vacations.I spoke to managers Robbie Taylor, and a Michael.I paid $276 for a vacation package that i could get for $157 elsewhere.I ended up paying over $600 for a vacation that was supposed to cost $157.And the timeshare lasted 4 hours, which was well over the 2 hours that they told me.The owner Chuck Moskowitz is a real crook. He owns this hole in the wall office, not Bluegreen.AVOID at all costs.

We signed up. It was a good deal so far. The idea and locations are quite nice. Then the 'come talk for a minute or 60 for a free night' starts. We got up sold once; it sounded like a good idea. At this point i put a cease and desist on our membership for marketing with the stipulation that i would immediately sell all 'points' if i get solicited for more anything. The pushy, not a word in edgewise for 2 minutes upon answering calls begin. My wife an i both are getting them. I kindly reminded them a couple of times, but now I am selling out. She is still doing chemo for breast cancer. I am getting over a surgery. Blah, blah, we have not had time to even experience the last upsale. Why would they continue to be so pushy after I repeatedly and explicitly requested that they note my file as "do not call"? High pressure, high call volume to me, repetitious marketing hoping to wear one down? Don't know, don't care, I'm out. I guarantee the original idea guy for Blue Green would not have started his company with the motto, "Push 'em 'til they cave. They all cave sooner or later." Horribly disappointed in the Marketing Dept of this company. Only people like me selling back this time-share en masse is going to create enough negative force to bring about a change in this company's tactics. Who'll join me in saying, "Enough is enough, take back your stress and keep it."

We, my wife and I, were scheduled for our ownership review or update as the folks at Bluegreen like to call it. We attended at apponintment on Feb 23, 2016 at 9:00am. It was 1:00pm or near 1:30 when the salesperson sad let's break for lunch after trying to sell us more points or trying to get us to upgrade in some fashion which involved us giving them mre money. The sales peopl explained that I vacationing or trip from home would be better and happier if we spent ore money. We told them "NO" several times. We told them it would strain our budget and that we were retired and we didi not work or haveanyway to increase ourincome in order to pay for the upgrade that they presented to us. I even told them if I did go ahead wth the upgrade that we may to file bankruptcy because of my wife's health which is diminishing quickly, as she was diagnosed with Muscular Dystrophy about 10 years before she retired.

We did break for lunch and we were provided our parting gift, but was asked for my cell phone and told to think about there offer and some one would call in the evening. Instead of evening we were called within 1 hour after we left. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon. We were invited back and wastod over the phone that the offer had been sweetned, or improved and the "kitchen sink" had been added. We were told to come back to see the new deal on the table. BIG MISTAKE, AND A NAIVE MOVE ON OUR PART. We did go back only to be hiogh pressured into buying. They had people come an sit arounf the table or walk over and say they wanted to help. Hell, they wanted to apply pressure. I am so embarassed that I fell for this. It was getting time to lock up, about 5:00 pm. They wanted to know what we wanted to do. We were told by a Susan Woods, who was helping our orginal sales person, Storm, that the offer on the table HAD CHARTER BENENFITS AND HAD A RESALE VALUE OF AT LEAST $1.81 PER POINT equivalent to a sum of $91,000 and there was no way we could lose.

We wanted to leave. We were tired and perplexed after being there for at least 7 hours so we just signed the form so e could get out of there. Of next we had to spend another hour there for there finance people to complete the forms and complete the sale.

Next day we wrote a letter to get out of the puchase contract. I had delivered the letter, then was told by a, ALLISON KiRBY, that she could not accept the letter. The letter would have to mailed to BLUEGREEN VACATIONS UNLIMITED, INC. ATTN: CORPORATE SALES ACCOUNTING DEPT., 4960 Conference Way N suite 100, Boca Raton, FL 33431-3311. She m ade a copy of the letter for our file and told me that Bluegreen does not want it' owners to suffer financial hardship. I though that was nice of her to say.

Then, on Friday, Feb 26, 2016, This guy named Storm and Susan Woods call me and want to know wh wrote the letter? Obviously, they have reading disorders plus listening problems, because my signature along with my wife's signature were at the bottom of the letter. This Storm guy wants to pry into my finances and said that I should not have cancelled and that our finances were now his busness. I explained that I could not not pay for it and that we would be under a financial burden. Storm kept insisting that our finances were his business and that he just could not understand why we would cancell. They still did not get. I was furious, then shouted profanity at him. Then laid the phone on its' face causing the phone to hangup. This was a good thing because I was seeing red and very angery. I thought this punk faced kid had a no respect for older folks and there finances. Besides, he left in he middle of our appointment with him. That is a rude move in itself.

There is probably no justice for this event. But, I want others to know that there is no need to succumb to their pressures. I wish I would have just ore up the paper the offer was on, rather than sign it. The other pointis that my ife and I have been ith Bluegreen since 1999 and have never, did I say never been treated this way by the sales people during our reviews. Yes, we have been asked to buy but never, not one bit pressured like these demons. I really do not know or understand how this Storm can live with himself. Also, he stated to us that he was a Christian and that he deep Christian roots in the Pigeon Forge, Tennessee area.

In summary, we were lied to. Timeshares do not have resale value as I called an attorney and a bank on Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016. My point consumer beware as maintenance fees go up too. The sale people will tell you that they will help you rent extra time that you cannot use to pay maintenance fees. That is a lie too. We know we have tried and id they could they would give you their business card. They will not give you their business card because they do not want to help you because leglly they cannot.

This company goes above and beyond to get you, they lie cheat and ultimately steal your money, but that's not all, every time ( assuming you can book a resort without paying your maintence fees ahead) you go to a resort they lure you in to there informational meetings...all these are is another way of sucking more money out of you, because guess what...if you don't upgrade you can't reserve....what a f***in scam. All I can say is that the a**wipes sales man that baited us in and a serious car crash and no longer is able to rob anyone anymore, can you say karma...so take it from me. StAY THE HELL AWAY FROM BLUEGREEN
