Bitdefender Antivirus Software Reviews

  • Sep 17, 2019

I used Bitfinder anti-virus program for one year. From July 2018 to July 2019. On July 23 2019 I was issued a new account o my credit card. I did not give the new account numbers to Bitfinder. I was informed on Sep 9 that I was automatically billed for another year subscription.

I emailed them back and asked them how did they bill me when I did not give them my new numbers. They replied they used the same card on my initial order from July 2018. I again told them that my card just changed in July, how did you get the new numbers in order to bill my new card?

They never answered how, but did give me the refund. I have the entire email chain in pdf form.

I thought I was buying a software product called "Computer Tune Up", but it turned out to be a service where you allow some tech, somewhere in the world to remote into your computer and poke around trying to speed things up for you. This was NOT going to happen! I would neither allow this nor do I need this service. When I realized what happened I immediately contacted the third party payment processor who started a case. I very concise ticket was created about what had happened and included the important fact that I had NOT and was not going to use the service. However, the nice folks at the payment processor told me that Bitdefender won’t allow them to process refunds and I would have to wait for Bitdefender to contact me, but also told me that I should call Bitdefender directly. When I called bit defender, after waiting 20 minutes on hold, the customer support person told me that the sales department would have to handle and approve the request. They said that they only communicate via email and I would get a response in 24 to 48 hours. Well sure enough I got an email two days later from the sales department saying exactly this “Dear Nate Hartman, Thank you for your patience. We hope this email finds you well. We wanted to let you know that your request, ticket no: xxxxxx is currently being reviewed and you will receive a response as soon as possible. Have a nice day! Best Regards, Bitdefender Customer Care Team”. E.g. The Run Around.

I paid for it using a PayPal credit card and have now filed a case with PayPal. Apparently the merchant now had ten days to respond to PayPal before they do anything. Hopefully I will get my stupid $69.99 back some day! – I never, ever write things like this, but I hope that someone reads this and comes to the same conclusion that I have which is this is a very poor business practice and a crummy way to treat customers. For me, any company that does this will never again get any of my business.

Terrible company. i stopped using it a few months after purchasing a year's subscription. can't remove the program without a special tool. auto-billed the next year; i notified them immediately and they haven't refunded my money after stating they would take care of it. located in fort lauderdale for anyone seeking to sue them.

Bought bitdefender anti Virus plus 2017 for $11.99 on a special thanksgiving deal.

Tried it.

It has very little configuration options (you can't control what it is doing to you).

The one thing I did configure it ignored.

Requested an activation number (it was never sent after I bought it).

Never got it, just a robo response that they were "working on it".

Uninstalled it.

Asked for a refund.

I've been getting a lot of robo responses and 1 actual person - but no refund.

This is clearly a crooked operation selling a crummy product.

Highly recommend to STAY AWAY!

I have used Bitdefender anti-virus protection for two years. Recently, as they did before when it was time for me to renew my subscription, I began receiving constant emails from them "reminding" me to renew my subscription--and just today, I began to get pop-up ads on my desktop from them.

I quickly renewed my order (they were offering a great deal), and then checked my computer to find out the date that my current subscription would end so that I would know when to install the new program. Well, I learned that I have 6 months more of my Bitdefender subscription. Had I not checked (as I am sure was the hope of the company), I would have uninstalled my old version of Bitdefender and installed the new subscription, therefore GIVING the company 6 months of last year's payment.

I caught this problem within 15 minutes of placing my order and attempted to resolve it with Bitdefender via online chat. The rep could not explain to me why this happened--didn't even attempt to, which made me suspicious. S/he also told me in very vague terms that s/he would put in my request for a "refund." I said, no--cancel my order. S/he would not. This person DID tell me that the company had sent out 250 MILLION marketing emails that day (when your business is that big, why do you feel the need to do this with your customers--not that small businesses should cheat their customers, either?).

I then contacted Bitdefender by phone. When the woman finally found my order (she said it did not exist at first, although I gave her all of the information), she used words that made it sound like she COULD be saying that my order was cancelled, but when pressed hard, she admitted that she was not promising me anything.

After two hours dealing with this company, my order that was unscrupulously "marketed," was still not cancelled, nor would anyone commit to a "refund."

I purchased a one year subscription to Bitdefender anti-virus software in November, 2015. Seven days ago I received an email notification that my subscription was due for renewal. I can't currently afford to renew, so I called customer service to cancel the subscription. I was told that my request would be forwarded to their "sales" department and that I should hear from them. I heard nothing from them, and the clock was ticking down to the date that they'd auto-renew the subscription. I called again and again, asking each time simply that the subscription be cancelled. I got same response: "Sir, I will forward this to my colleagues in sales." I said no: just cancel the subscription. I don't need to talk to "sales." I was told that this is procedure and I would have to wait for "sales." Well, the day for auto-renewal arrived, and sure enough, they tapped my credit card! What really bugs me about this is that Bitdefender received really good reviews from sites like PC Magazine, PC World, and others. As far as I'm concerned, my bad review here applies to both Bitdefender as well as the "trusted" enteties that promote Bitdefender. Any way you look at it, I was robbed.

Subscription "auto-renewed" (No authorization) - money taken in August. Got a virus notification & tried a scan, App says expired. Paid for a year 45 + days ago - called 3 times - stonewalled! Wasting time and money. Insisted on a refund - 3 more calls, finally got notice of a refund coming. Then the disconnected my paid laptop service - had 500 days left!!! Vindictive. FRAUD AND THEFT! Beware - total scam!

I was a loyal customer of Bitdefender for years. Each year, when my time was up, I would find myself a decent discount on the upcoming year's antivirus purchase, until this year. This year I got slammed with an "autorenewal" purchase. You know it's hard to remain loyal to a company when they screw you the way they did me.

So I get a notice that this company has charged me for a renewal through Paypal that I didn't authorize for, get this, $119.95. But of course they claim it's all on the up and up because "there are notices you agreed to and emails are sent out informing you of your purchase." Yeah, in the fine print, they tell you apparently, but I never saw an agreement to pay $119.95 for an autorenewal, and I began looking around on the Internet where I noticed others have been getting hit like this for years. They get access to your Paypal and bill you when they feel like it for whatever they want to charge, two days before subscription ends, even though my control panel says, even as I write this, "2 Days Left Buy Now." And when I go to the link, I get offers in the range of $40. That's right, even though they charged me $119.95 without asking first, I've got offers for way less right now in my account which has yet to expire.

So I look at this email that was sent out. You know when it was sent out? 6:29 pm on a Friday night. That's right, after most folks have gone home and some people can't get to the banks until Monday. Not only that, but it says in the e-mail that if I want to confirm the purchase there's a link I can click. Nothing at all about opting out, however, not that it would've mattered since the withdrawal from my Paypal account was processed at exactly 6:29 pm also. Hmmm... Sounds pretty well thought out to me. Anyone else smell a skunk in here, 'cause it sure stinks to me.

Chatted with the guy who gave me the standard line and said he'd forward it to sales to look at. Gave me the standard line about how I agreed to it and that I was notified by e-mail. I told him I was looking at the email. It says that this email is part of an anti-fraud check system for my protection. Funny thing is that an anti-fraud check system that doesn't give you a link to opt out and doesn't give you time to respond doesn't seem like a real anti-fraud check system. It seems like a legal hoop to jump through to tell the banks that you notified the customer and they didn't stop the transaction or opt out.

Anyway, I'm very upset at this point because they shafted me as a loyal customer of several years and they shafted my family for the month. As a disabled veteran on a fixed income, it makes things really hard on them. Thanks Bitdefender. Thanks for the sarcasm from your chatline as well. You know, Paypal doesn't do recurring payments according to other vendors I've interacted with, so how did they circumvent that protection? I've already disputed the charge with Paypal, and I'm going to my bank tomorrow to deal with that angle as well.
