On Saturday, April 22, 2017 I got an oil change at BESTWAY AUTO CENTER, 6859 S. Damen Ave., Chicago, Illinois 60636 (bestwayautorepair.com). Owner is James Holloway 773.320.8911. On Sunday, April 23, 2017 I drove to Falls Church, Virginia on business. Falls Church is approximately 700 miles from Chicago. About 500 miles out of Chicago I noticed blue smoke coming from the rear of my car. No dashboard lights or indicators of a malfunction. I pulled into the next gas station to find out I was very low on oil. No oil appeared on the oil dip stick. I purchased 2 quarts of oil. About 100 miles away from Falls Church the check engine light came on. No dashboard oil indicators lighted up to suggest I should stop and pull over. I continued my journey and arrived in Virginia about 2:30 am, checked into the hotel.
On Monday I got up and went to class. After class I went directly to the nearest Cadillac dealer which was Lindsay Cadillac at 1525 Kenwood Ave., Alexandria, Va. They diagnosed my vehicle and the results were a timing chain issue due to the lack of oil. Cadillac said it was the result of the oil change I had on Saturday. The service adjuster, Nicholas Hupp said it would not be covered under the 100, 000 mile powertrain warranty. I told Nich I had an extended warranty thru my dealer Arnie Bauer, 5525 Miller Circle Drive in Matteson, Illinois. He contacted Arnie Bauer to find out the extended warranty info and called them. Nich said they will also not cover the timing chain issue due to the oil leak. So I reluctantly had to get the repairs done at Lindsay Cadillac. The total repairs were $2911.16. The invoice had several timing codes that were supposed to be cleared and fixed. I paid the invoice and returned the rental car to Enterprise for $276.62. I drove back to Illinois on Friday.
On Saturday morning around 1am the check engine light came on again. I took my car to Arnie Bauer. They diagnosed it as having one of the same engine codes that appeared at Lindsay Cadillac. Arnie Bauer fixed it at no charge under my 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. Why was my warranty not covered at Lindsay Cadillac? I filed a complaint with the BBB in Virginia. I filed a complaint with Cadillac corporate office. All of my complaints cited the oil change was the issue. At this point, I just want to be reimbursed for the timing chain issue and the rental car. Any help or guidance will be greatly appreciated.
