This company, AroyoT - The Best Granite Countertops, called me when I searched for a company on Home Advisor to have my fireplace refaced. I was told by Tony, the owner/manager that they did other projects besides granite and quartz. I mentioned that I wanted to have "barn doors" installed on my front room entry, the entry way retiled, replace the carpet with wood flooring and have a half wall removed and replaced with a wrought iron railing.
In addition, Tony also mentioned that they did wrought iron railings and I gave him a deposit of $1500 for the railings. I gave Tony a deposit for the fireplace, the barn doors, the tile and the wood flooring. I mentioned to Tony that I wanted to reuse the baseboard because of its unique design. The fireplace turned out all right. The tile turned out fine, however, the wood floors had to be redone in some areas because the flooring looked as though it had been "ripped."
It was all jagged and the installer tried to conceal it with a black magic marker! Also, my baseboard was almost destroyed with broken pieces, nails half hanging out and the caulking uneven and it took me one solid week, dragging my 70 year old butt around my living area, using wood filler, removing nails and caulking, sanding and repainting to get my baseboards looking halfway decent. Just really horrible workmanship!!
After seeing the shoddy workmanship, I decided not to have this company do the barn doors and I told Tony to apply the $750 deposit to the wrought iron railing for which I had already given him $1500 as a "good faith" deposit. Tony let me know that the railings would be completed within 3-4 weeks, however, because of the back log caused by the pandemic, it took a few weeks longer to get the materials for the railing. I understood that.
After hearing excuse after excuse over the course of 14-15 weeks, leaving my vacation twice to meet Tony to install the wrought iron railing just to be stood up, I told Tony that I wanted my deposit of $2250 returned to me so I could hire another company to make the railing. Again, nothing but excuses!! He even called me to let me know that "he was writing the check as we speak," and told me that he would bring it to me tomorrow. Always tomorrow!! I haven't heard from him since.
I have no railing in my hallway and Tony has stolen my $2250! I am a 70 year old widow and I saved to get the remodeling done. If you can help me in any way, it would be very much appreciated. I have filed a formal complaint with the Jefferson County Court, Small Claims Division and have a court date for September 9, 2021.
Tony has been served by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department in Golden and I have still have not heard anything from him. I just want my $2250. I have copies of all the checks that I wrote to him if needed. Thank you for any help that you can give me to have my $2250 returned to me.
