Bellhop Movers Reviews
I wanted to write a long review but instead I will share our horrible experience with Bellhop via the letter I sent them and of course gave us a BS response. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE LIARS AND HAVE THUGS WORKING FOR THEM.
We have moved so many times both short distance and long distance but this was the most unorganized stressful move we have ever had! Upon booking with a Bellhop employee (Jamie Edwards), I asked all of the questions that were important for our move- Were the long distance movers actual Bellhop movers? Would they be in Bellhop tee shirts? Was it a Bellhop truck? Would our furniture be wrapped in plastic and blankets? Would the movers disassemble and reassemble our bed/bedframe and dining table? Would our tvs and artwork be wrapped properly for transport? Would we receive paperwork for our move? Etc. I was reassured that everything would be done by this Bellhop representative.
The day before the move, I called to confirm our move-date and was told by another employee that our move-date was actually not a guaranteed date and it could possibly take place 4-5 days from my actual move-out date that I booked!! Being a long distance move, I already had every other aspect of our move also booked-cleaning company, car transport, hotel, and flights. We were completely stressed not knowing if an actual mover was coming the next day as we were told that they were working on it every time we called in, over several hours of the day. They finally had our move booked for 8am the next day.
The next day I called in to confirm that the movers were arriving at 8am and was told that our move was scheduled for 8am Eastern time not Pacific time. I began to panic as that wasn’t what I scheduled but then 15-20 min later, the movers arrived! So whoever I spoke with was incorrect with their information.
To my dismay, the movers showed up reeking of weed and the lead brought his two year old son with him. They were not in Bellhop Uniform, the truck was an Enterprise truck not a Bellhop truck and when asked during our move, the movers told us they worked for a contracted company and were not Bellhop movers! We were also told that the contracted company relied on their driver for materials. The driver only had a few blankets, only one roll of tape, no wardrobe boxes, no tv boxes and no toolbox. Thankfully we had our own toolbox otherwise our bed, bed frame and table would have never made it onto the truck!
The whole move was extremely stressful as we were warned throughout the move many times by the lead that our furniture may not fit onto the truck and we would have to leave something(s) behind! On top of this, the driver had a forklift that must have weighed at least 1,000 pounds and took up space on the truck. The movers used it one time. Throughout the move, we were warned by one of the guys that if the truck was overweight, the truck would need to turn around and everything in the truck would need to be unloaded!!! Needless to say, we had the same amount of furniture moved to Seattle with 20% -25% of the truck empty and no weight issues, no mention of weight issues and no forklift on the truck!
This Bellhop move took about 8 hours and throughout it all we were constantly warned by the lead that our belongings might not fit and on top of this we worried that there weren’t enough plastic and blankets for a proper move! All of these warnings and stress for 8 hours straight!
We tried to call the Bellhop employee (who booked our move) multiple times and he never answered! He was ok booking our move and taking our money but was now nowhere to be found. Upon booking our move, he lied about every single detail of our long distance move. Every single answer to my list of questions was replied to with a lie by your representative. In addition to this, the email that this employee sent us stated disassembling furniture and padding/ wrapping our belongings properly. As mentioned above, both were questions I asked during pre-booking.
We chose Bellhop because we believed the company was a well known professional popular moving company with the experience and know how to do a long distance move properly! But instead all we got was fear, stress and aggravation! We had been moved from LA to Seattle without a problem before. Everything was packed properly and the movers came with all of the proper supplies and equipment. We assumed Bellhop would deliver the same kind of experience , as it is a well known moving company. During the 8 hour move, we were completely worried and stressed the entire time!
When we called the Bellhop company, we realized that the same two employees answered the phone, there was no actual Seattle office, and we had to beg frantically for more blankets and packing supplies!
The contracting company owner came by at the end of our move with some tv boxes but Bellhop never came through with any supplies or remedy. We spoke with the Bellhop CEO (Luke Marklin) and the Bellhop supervisor during our move as we were terrified of the situation and both people promised to make this right and find solutions ... Yet no additional blankets, wardrobe boxes or plastic was ever sent over.
For an emergency situation and a huge company like Bellhop, you would imagine that someone from the company could just bring some more blankets and plastic, wardrobe and tv boxes and an actual toolbox but that was impossible and never going to happen!
There is no Seattle office and the Bellhop supervisor who was promising to make a quick order for these supplies was speaking to the company they contracted with asking for these things at the last minute!! This move was the most unprofessional, unorganized stressful fearful move we ever had!
During our move, we discovered that not only did Bellhop hire this contracted moving company to do our move but the movers were not even professional movers!! They were even told that they were hired for an unload not a move with an estimated time of 2 hours!!! We could have literally hired a bunch of guys off of Craigslist! We chose Bellhop because of its reputation and what we were promised by the Bellhop representative!
During our move, the lead from the contracted company was directing two movers ( not professional movers) and had his two year old son with him! The son was running up and down our stairs, playing with our wood furniture on the floor, stepping over pieces of our bed frame and other furniture, and picking up things off the floor that were a part of our move!! We often babysat his son while they moved furniture!
The movers had trouble getting furniture around corners, they broke our moving cart and then the son was playing with it and stepping on it outside of the truck, the “movers” had to break a piece of wood off of our bed frame to get it past the door because they couldn’t figure out how to use the tools that we had to unbolt it, the lead must have mentioned 20x throughout our entire move that our belongings wouldn’t fit in the truck, towards the end of the move the lead’s boss brought tv boxes because there weren’t any tv boxes!
We told our Bellhop representative that all of our furniture needed to be wrapped properly. The movers didn’t want to wrap anything and constantly asked us if we needed any wrapping on our delicate furniture items when we said over and over again yes. We told them from the beginning to wrap everything and throughout the job to wrap everything! They ignored us!
The lead told us that he had 20 blankets but there were only 8 and didn’t ask his boss to bring more blankets or wardrobe boxes and to top everything off our items looked like they were thrown into a truck and not placed in properly or wrapped correctly! The only belongings that were wrapped were a few couch pillows (halfway wrapped) and half of our couch!!!!! The garbage pail was fully wrapped!!!! The garbage pail was the only item properly wrapped!!!!!
These were the most unprofessional “movers” you could find!! One of the two movers said that he never moved anything before!!!!!!! The lead talked badly about Bellhop the entire time! This was a complete nightmare!!!!
Framed art work wasn’t placed in the truck with any care and some blankets were just thrown on top of it! None of our large furniture pieces were wrapped completely AT ALL aside from a garbage pail!! Then the lead’s boss forced my husband, under duress and without a choice in a threatening manner, to make a video saying that their contracted company did nothing wrong on their part!!!!!!!
The lead constantly told us that we would not be able to take all our furniture and would have to leave personal belongings behind!! We gave your company an entire list of the items we had beforehand! We had 20-30% of our truck empty on the way over to Seattle! When the lead’s boss showed up at the end, he had to give the lead and other “movers” advice on how to fit the items in the truck!!! They used four pieces of tape on 60 inch tv boxes!!! We repeatedly asked to have our furniture wrapped and told Bellhop this as well and nothing was wrapped!!!!!! They told us that you can’t wrap a mattress!!!! We’ve had several moves in the past and everything was always properly wrapped and securely placed onto a truck!!!!! That is what a professional moving company does!!
This entire experience was a complete nightmare!!! This was a complete false advertisement. The stress, aggravation, lies, the complete failure to remedy this whole move, and the mere fact that this move was done by two guys who are NOT BELLHOP MOVERS and NOT PROFESSIONAL MOVERS is disgusting. We could have thrown our belongings onto a truck or hired random movers on Craigslist to throw our belongings unwrapped into a truck . Every single thing that is advertised on your website is absolute false advertisement!
There was no “Guidance Every Step of the Way”, not even from the CEO!!!
Bellhop was not “EFFICIENT, PROFESSIONAL, OR TRUSTWORTHY”.
There was zero “ATTENTION TO DETAIL, OR CUSTOMER SUPPORT”.
“FURNITURE AND BELONGINGS WERE NOT SAFE”
Bellhop movers were NOT “EXPERIENCED”
This move was anything but “STRESS FREE”. Etc!
Our security cameras have captured 230 videos of our move, we have emails documenting what was promised, and we have texts apologizing to us and making promises that were not met.
Upon unloading, we discovered a nightmare!! This was not a move. This was a throw in the back of a truck job! Care was not put into handling any of our items!!! They weren’t professionally wrapped at all!!!!!! This is not how a move works.
Framed artwork pieces were not wrapped. They threw some blankets over them without tape and threw them on top of a pile of furniture! Damage was done to art work.
Our new fridge wasn’t wrapped at all and was dented in the back of it.
Our new nursery carpet was dragged and not wrapped at all and all brown and dirty all over
All of our headboard pieces weren’t wrapped at all and were destroyed!! Pieces to assemble the headboard are completely gone!!!
Bed frame was completely ripped apart by movers because they didn’t have any tools on them, couldn’t figure out how to unbolt it using our toolbox of tools, and couldn’t figure out how to angle it around a staircase without doing this!!!!
The mattress wasn’t wrapped and is covered in filth and dirt everywhere!!
Our couch wasn’t wrapped and is now damaged and ripped in multiple locations !
Our round chairs weren’t wrapped at all and damaged
Nursery bookcase with cushioning not wrapped and damaged!!
Desk broken, pieces completely missing and now wobbly!!!!
Dining table base is completely broken and wobbling!!!!!!! Broken!!! Pieces are all missing!!!! Unusable!! They never took this apart properly!!!
Nursery changing table scraped up!!!!
Super expensive coffee table just thrown in and tvs just thrown in and not properly wrapped!!
Dresser not wrapped!!!
Upon unloading, the captain who showed up on time was absolutely horrified at how our belongings were packed and found in the truck! He could not believe that our items weren't wrapped and took each piece out super carefully. We took photos of each item as they were removed from the truck. The driver and captain did all the work since the other two "contracted movers" didn't show up until 30 min before the move ended!!!! And needless to say, everything fit into our storage space which was much smaller than the truck and all in 2.5 hours!
There are no words. This is DISGUSTING to treat someone’s property like this and to call yourself a moving company!!! All you did was destroy everything we attempted to move and caused us an unbelievable amount of stress and created a nightmare for us!!!!!
We are asking for a full reimbursement of the move and full recovery for all damages to our belongings which we estimate to be at least $10,000. Your company is well aware of the situation. Upon the completion of our move, Bellhop fired the contracting company in Seattle and apologized many times for what occurred.
