BBVA Compass Reviews

  • Jul 16, 2020

Compass had no way of accepting the payoff for my installment loan and instructed me to drive to their nearest branch, which is about fifteen minutes away. I brought a check with me to pay off their high interest loan.

The lobby was closed, due to COVID 19, so I had to go through the drive through. The Teller's name was Riley, and he looked afraid and said that he would not accept the physical check after I sneezed and told him I had a cold.

Instead, Riley said I could pay with the app. I asked him if the payoff amount was about the limit for the app because I had just been instructed to drive all the way to their branch to pay in person. He assured me I'd be able to use the app and helped me get it set up in the drive through. I asked him specifically to confirm that the amount would not be a problem using the app. I felt like he just wanted to brush me off.

I get all the way home again and try to deposit the check into my account to use to pay off the balance. The check amount ($8,800) was over the app deposit limit. I wrote a new check for the max amount and deposited that to use to pay.

I called Compass again (two hours on hold again) to see what else I could do to pay them in full. They said they would stop the interest on that day and they did accept "the balance" over the phone. They have a daily limit for payments over the phone, so the representative broke up the installments to the max per day up to the payoff amount.

Meanwhile, the app transaction didn't post and was rejected because you can only do so many online payments in one month (only one), and I had exceeded the limit of one.

I called back in, spent another hour on the phone, and they took "the balance" again over the phone, but they collected about $400 more than my payoff amount and said the money would be returned once prorated and adjusted back to the date that interest was to stop, which was March 25, 2020, the same day I drove to the branch to pay the balance.

They sent a check for ninety dollars and now there are no notes saying the interest was to stop on March 25, 2020, and they have charged interest for almost a full month.

I have a solid eight hours into this already. I work long hours as a single parent.

What else can I do? They refused to allow me to pay them on March 25th and gave me the run around. We are going on month four of this.

I feel like they are basically stealing $300 from me. Not to mentional all of the time.

They sent me a “pre-approved” credit card application. I went online and completed it, twice over about three weeks, and I get a response “We are unable to offer you a card due to Fraud Indicators”. Since there’s no fraud reported on my credit file I tried to contact the bank at the number provided and it went to voicemail, they never called back. I have written and e-mailed them with no response. Subsequent to that I find out that other people I know have received the same credit card offer and upon applying, received the same result. They seem to have no intention of issuing a card and are trolling for personal information so they can sell it to others.

Say I'm not who I say I am

Trying to get our credit up to mid 800s before we buy a house. I already have cards with more reputable companies that are payed off and have thousands of more available dollars on my limit than this new BBVA card would give me, but again, we're just trying to do what it takes to up our credit to "Excellent" from "Very Good". After applying, BBVA denied the card (no big deal), but their reasons WHERE a big deal - they said that this was most likely "Fraud" and not who I said I was despite giving Personal I.D., etc. Funny, AMERICAN EXPRESS, DISCOVER, CAPITAL ONE, and others have had NO problems with my identity for decades. Whatever. Their Loss. Regardless, if they can't get that right, what else are they getting wrong? Highly advised to STAY AWAY from BBVA.

Hello, I am a customer that has been banking with BBVA since 2006. I have had nothing but problems with them throughout the years, and they are nothing short of thieves. I run between $20k-$50k/month through that bank. I was in Vegas, Lake Charles, and then New Orleans with friends and EVERY time I tried to pull money out, it said I had exceeded my limit. You can’t call them after hours because they’re a tiny bank and don’t have CSR’s outside of normal banking hours. It’s a complete waste. Here is my last email to their senior CSR with her contact info. It’s pathetic.

Email below: I left you a voice mail again. I was just at the bank right now at the ATM, I went to pull money out AGAIN, and yet AGAIN, it failed. I am traveling overseas tomorrow morning and this is so far beyond unacceptable. Someone at the bank changed my ATM withdrawal limit to $500 WITHOUT notification, and your app doesn’t even have a way to see what the limits are. Seriously? Am I 12? I run $20-50k/month through that account and you have a $500 limit on it when I’ve specifically asked a dozen times in the 23 years I’ve had the account to leave it at $1500? I have a lot to discuss with you when we talk tomorrow, but I have paid over $500 in fees while I’ve been on the road because I’ve had to do a cash advance on a DEBIT card because your horrible bank wants to hold my money hostage. I’m really surprised you guys are in business to be honest. It’s no wonder this bank’s ratings are amongst the worst on forum reviews. No response after the message, no returned phone , etc. Here is her contact information. Received 6 emails in a row spamming me regarding changes in my email and user names on my "so called' account.

I don't bank with them.

Called and removed. They told me they randomly send out emails.

Opened a checking account with them only, I funded the account and everything. Recieved my debit card starting using it with no issues up until they froze my account out of the blues. I still have $510 in that account but i am not able to access it. called customer service they told me I needed to go into a branch, that's a big issue because i am in Washington state where there isn't a local branch. Told them that and they seem to be confused and said there is nothing they could do so they gave me phone number to a random branch in Alabama and said i need to call them and work it out. So i have been trying to call them every day and never got a live person to answer! hmmmm What am i supposed to do it has almost been a month that my money is still being held hostage by them! Why can't they just closed the account and send me my money back like any other normal bank? but no, my money is still stuck there and i don't know what to do this is bill money and they have no idea the burden they have caused. BBVA I really just want my money back! I regret ever opening this account this worst the worst decision I have made in my life!

Beware getting a credit card with BBVA Compass. They are nearly impossible to reach on the phone in case there is a problem. After discovering a incorrect late fee of $10 on my card, I tried several times over several months to get them tyo fix it. I spent hours on hold and could never speak to anyone. I am cancelling my card and using a US company. BBVA is TERRIBLE!

I have noticed this issue going on for a while. Supposedly they are a real time bank, meaning all transactions are processed at real time. This is a lie. They do this with debits when it benefits them and reorder or hold deposits. They do not have any consistent patterns of deposits some process the next bsuiness day, some of 2 business days, nothing ever deposits on Saturdays.

I am a business customer and was hit with a few NSF fees here and there. When I would calll about them, I would mention that my account was never negative. They tell me every time that the system they see in the bank is different from the mobile banking system. How that is possible is beyond me.

You cannot opt of overdraft because you are a buinsess.

This weekend was the last straw. I left floating funds in there to cover weekend debits. I had depsotis that cleared quickbooks and were to be deposited on Saturday. (They do not deposit on Saturday so I knew it would be the next business day) It was not, they deposited 3 on the next business day and 1 the large one 2 business days later.

They hit me with 10 fees, 10, 38.00 fees and some were for transactions of 1.00.

I went into the bank to have them give me an explanation. He gave me the same spill and then turned his computer around so I could see it. Even his system never show any place that the account balance went negative. He could not even locate it.

He said he would refund me but only 5 and there was nothing else he could do. He gave me one more but I was still lost out of 4 more fees yet could not be shown where or why the account was being charged.

I am completly confused, dumbfounded that this is even allowed to happen.

BBVA reduced my interest rate on MMA without proper notice. Their contention is that since the rate decreased on our statement, that was the notice. I had been told by the manager that the interest rate would continue from 2015 to 2016. He never told me that it was a teaser extension. They also renewed our CD for 16 months @ 0.10% since we were a week late in contacting BBVA.

The Manager had been calling me from time to time to sell annuities and I was depending on him to inform me if there were interest setbacks so that I could take preventive measures. WE ended up losing a few hundred due to utter bad customer service relations at this branch. We ended up moving our deposits but are still stuck with the CD. We don't trust what they say anymore.

On June 9, 2015 the owner of our company went to the Compass Branch on Grogan's Mill Road in Woodlands, Texas. Their systems were down and they gave us a hand written deposit slip for $2,781.55. We had one check for $781.55 and $2000.00 in cash. After reconciling our company books, we discovered that the deposit was never posted to our account.

We brought this to the attention of Adan Alonso, Branch Manager on January 11. We presented him with the deposit slip and our bank statement. I never imagined that after 12 years with Compass that we would have any issues. They haven't even taken responsibility for their error. He continues to place the blame on us and tells us what we need to do to fix their mistake. Mr. Alonso hasn’t called us since last week and I have left several messages with Mr. McDonald, District Manager who hasn’t even given us the courtesy of a return call.

BBVA Compass is applying NSF fees when accounts are positive.

Although I knew I was scraping the bottom of the barrel, my account was in the black, and I had to make an unexpected payment. My balance was enough to cover the amount with room to spare, but only just, so I made a payment.

Unfortunately I did not count on BBVA applying an insufficient funds fee to my account, even though it was in the black (not by much, but still positive), this NSF fee then took me into my overdraft.

I contacted BBVA Compass, and dispite my having supporting evidence showing my balance before and after the payment, including screenshots, emails and the data on their own systems to the contrary, they claim that my balance was insufficient to make the payment and refused to refund the NSF fee.

BBVA seem to be ignoring basic math and just applying NSF fees when they are not justified.

The bank may approve the card - but close it later if you have been blacklisted by the former Compass Bank (paid or unpaid accounts).

They don't tell you this, but will send the card. Once you try to load or activate, the system will say the account is closed. After several calls, I finally got someone who gave me the information on the closure.

I kept requesting a letter stating why the account was closed, but to date, have not gotten one.

Also, many of the large banks will run Chexsystems for a prepaid card approval. They want to profile you to see what other long-term banking services they can market to you.
