Bruce Blevins has made a career out of ripping of boaters and foreigners in Golfito. Bruce Blevins was finally fired for embezeling money from Banana Bay Marina, where he used to tell people he was the owner, when he was really just stealing the income from the owner (his boss), for many years, and now he is becoming famous for ripping off his clients, and looting the yachts that are under his care.
Now, Bruce Blevins has a company called BBSEAS that is a broker for yacht transport services, and for documenting boats in Costa Rica, as well as trying to sell other services, like offering to make a reservation for you at one of the marinas (like you really need him to do that for you???). Think about that.... MAKE IT YOURSELF and save money!
He will not get you the best deal. He gets the best deal for himself, and you pay for it. He is famous for "brokering" the services of the local mechanics, and even of tour guides, at greatly inflated prices. Do not use BBSEAS for anything. Golfito is a very small and friendly town, and anyone there can tell you who to use for anything you need.
You do not need Bruce Blevin's getting involved in anything, unless you just like to pay a LOT more. He only reccomends people that he has an arangement with to pay him a large commission, on anything and everything there is. He acts like he is just heelping you, when he is really helping himself to your money. Even the taxi he called for me told me he has to pay a kickback to Bruce Blevins every time he gets a client from him.
There are MANY reports of yachts being pilfered of their expensive equipment and gear while under Bruce Blevin's care, and with him being the only person with keys to the yachts that were robbed. That is the inspiration for this post actually. It has just gotten out of hand and is happening way too often.
His wife is an enormous beast who is also a famously dishonest local attorney. She helps him with some of his scams, including boat paperwork, and also real estate scams. Speaking of real estate scams, just ask Bruce who paid for the property his house is now built on, and how is it that he ended up with it? He didn't buy it. He STOLE it from his partner who trusted him! Don't give Bruce Blevins a POA for anything, no matter what he tells you it is for, and don't sign any document in Spanish without having someone else read it for you first.
Blevins came here as a mate on a fishing boat, and is now doing pretty good, and it is not due to hard work, but rather due to all the people he has stolen from over the years, including his own bosses.
All I can say is that if you shake his hand, you better count your fingers. Just look at the small group of super nasty, bottom of the barrel, complete loser, "fishermen", that he calls his "friends". What a sad crowd of losers who pay dirty whores just to get laid. He is a two faced, spineless, creap of a human being.
Ask around Golfito and you will hear plenty of stories about all the people Bruce Blevins has stolen things from, from boats, to equipment, to cash, to fishing gear, to real estate. Don't be next. If you go to Golfito, avoid Bruce Blevins and anything that has to do with him. You do not need him for anything.
And, if you are shipping a yacht to or from Golfito, and Bruce Blevins is in any way invloved, then you better make sure Bruce Blevins does not have the keys to it, or take everything off the boat that you do not want stolen. When you boat is looted, Bruce Blevins will then blame the yacht transport company, and tell you that your insurance should cover it. He even tells people they have a lot of problems with theivery on the transport ship, which is not true, and the ship has cameras on the cargo at all times, but he says that to cover his own tracks. The yachts are robbed in Golfito by Bruce Blevins, not on the transport ship.
If you deal with Bruce Blevins then you can expect to be ripped off by him in any way he can. Just avoid Bruce Blevins and his enormous wife altogether, and beware of the small circle of complete losers who hang around him, just waiting for the next trusting and unsuspecting boater that they can fleece.
