When my 18 years old daughter has developed rapid flases in the eyes on a Friday night, we got panicked that she might have a potentnail retinal detachmentand based on the web seaches info. So, we rushed to the Baycare Emergency room for treatment. We asked for an Opthalmologist to see my daughter. They put us in a room for more than two hours (Emergency service !!) and sent a nurse to check the pulse. We told the nurse that she has no fever and no reason to check her pulse. He said it is their routine procedure and hence he wants to check her temperature and BP (on a 18 year old). Right then, we felt fishy and asked that we want to see not a nuse but an Optholmologist for eye problem. The nurse was rough and rude, and left the room. after half an hour, a nurse pratitioner came in scrubs with a stethoscopre in the neck. He didn't introduce that he is a nurse practitioner. Looking at his dress and attire, we presumed he is a doctor, but, we just want to make sure and hence, we asked if he is an Optholmologist. He replied that he is a nurse practitioner !! Then, we told him that we want to see an Optholomologist as miy daughter is in sericous health condition. He left and after 15 minutes a DO came. Man, we don't want to see a DO. We told the DO that we want a eye specilist. He said there is NO eye sepecialist or any specialist on the floor. Then we demanded to see a MD and not DO. The DO visibly upset for our demand but, said, the hospital has NO MDs in the emergency room and only he can see us. Upon our inquiry, if he can treat my daughter's eye problem, he said sure, and asked my daughter couple of questions about the symptomes, how and when the flases in the eye started and left the room and spoke to an Optholmologist on phone and told us that nothing is wrong with the eyes that the specilalist wants to see my daughter the next day in HIS CLINIK !!
There is NO treatment, the DO didn't use a scopre to see the eye or flashes ( he told later that he is not trained on treating eyes, he is being honest). For providing business to the optholmologist BAYCARE CHARED US $800.00 !! Baycare didn't provide a doctore we asked, didn't provide a MD we asked, they tried to get away with a Nurse Practitioner for a eye problem. THIS IS A RIPOFF. Baycare uses substandard professionals in the emergency room and they charge you from your NOSE. When we callled the gievances department (Fake Dept), the lady was CURT, RUDE, Horrible who said the charges are for checking the BP, Temperature, and providing the ER room for the patient. This is crazy and stupid. This is a botched system where Baycare employees cheap labor in stead of Specialists and MDs and charges outrageouisly if you are Legal and if you have insurance. BUT, If you are Illegal immigrant, DACA recipitent, then, the ER treatment is FREE because it is paid by the foolish tax payer, What a Garbage.
What kind of ER system is this that charges for referal; I could have gone the next day to the Eye specialist myself. They didnt' tell me at the ER that they are going to charge my insurance. Bythe way the horrible thing is that the Specialist on the phone charges $450 TOO for asking us to come to his office !! What a botched system, corruput charges.
I hope blistering Barnicles develop on the legs and face of the lady who was rude to us and didn't reimburse our money. and I also wish the same to that Optholmologist who charged us for telling the DO on the phone to send us to his office. SHAME on you Baycare managememt.
