Do not use Anthony Langston of B. Langston Estates, Appraisals and Auctions under any circumstances! He grossly misrepresented his services, and due to this, conducted a rushed and an unprofessional auction gyping us out of money because of poor advertising, poor presentation, lack of knowledge of items selling and insisting that reserve prices were not allowed.
Anthony Langston, proprietor of B. Lansgton Estates, Appraisals, and Auction, informed the owner and operator of her antique mall (of which I rented a space) that when packed items were delivered to his auction house that he had 60 days to auction the items and that he would advertise well in advance of the auction with photos and descriptions. When asked about reserve prices he said they could not do reserve prices. We learned later from his wife who also operates the business that we should have set reserve prices. So who is telling the truth-him or her?
The owners of the antique mall and I (as well as other members of the mall) only found out by chance that Langston had rushed to auction off our items within 2 days of delivery to the auction house. He rushed to make box lots, often mixing vendor items together. Because of his lack of advertising, poor presentation, and pathetic photographs of items for sale, the auction was poorly attended. The owner and I, as well as other vendors of the closing antique mall realized auctions generally bring less money for an item, but when the man accepts a $10.00 bid for an item worth $100.00 this is rediculous. These failures continued through out the auction because the auctioneer never described any of the items as to their values (such as depression ware, brand of item, etc.) as if it would be to much to persuade bidders to compete more for an item. Although we were expecting some loss, we never imagined it would be a total loss
If you plan to auction an estate or large number of items, stay as far away as possible from B. Langston's as possible.
