My car rental was reserved & paid for by Government Vacation Rewards; I’m a veteran. Yeah, right, that doesn’t seem to matter. I arrive at Daniel Oduber Quiros Intl Apo Liberia yesterday (3/28/22) and had to take a hot shuttle to Avis outside of the airport. I say to myself, “Okay, this is different.” Then I stand in line for at least 45 minutes, because it was crowded.
I’m mostly disabled in my feet and had to lug my bags inside by myself. No air conditioner in that place, either. Hope I lost some pounds sweating to pieces. Couldn’t figure out how to call Avis when I was in the U.S. to warn them I was coming and needed assistance from the wheel chair at the airport. My feet were swollen from the plane ride, then standing, and it moved up my legs.
I get to the ticket counter and the woman lost the smile on her face and asks for a passport, driver’s license, and 2 credit cards. Because I was paying attention to customers ahead of me, I noticed they weren’t asking anybody else for 2 credit cards. I mention this to her and she says nothing about it. But then she has an attitude the entire time.
For a $402 rental, she tries to hold $1,000 on my Visa. It didn’t work, so I told her that’s a lot of money to be holding while I’m in a foreign country … for the entire 14 days? Hertz didn’t do that to me last Fall when I went to Dallas, TX. Thought Avis was governed by United States policies & procedures; not whatever a local feels like honoring in their respecting countries.
I then give her my Amex card and she holds $1,000 on that card. I’m annoyed now, because why is she asking for deposits when I own a Benz, probably made more money than she could ever dream of, and none of that happened with Hertz.
Then she doesn’t get in the car and put the A/C on like they did all the previous customers. Didn’t give me a contract, and I was too flustered to notice until I got to this resort. What I thought was a contract was something this guy took from me to get off the lot. I just wanted to get to the resort and lay down at this point.
This morning (3/29/22), I get 2 emails; one from each credit card company that I can’t use my cards because SHE maxed them out. Those are my primary credit cards, and no way should this have happened. I also get told I have to purchase their insurance, and she refused to explain what she had me signing here and there. I have my own vehicle insurance for car rentals with USAA. I tell her that I can’t seem to access the internet, and how can I use Google Maps to get to the resort? She tells me to find a grocery store and buy a chip for my phone. WHAT GROCERY STORE? I don’t know where I am, and she turns around and walks away.
I sat in that lot for almost 2 hours until I was sure I could use a navigation tool and that my hotel reservation hadn’t gotten canceled because I wasn’t there at 3pm. My cell phone provider got me an international temporary plan. Nobody came out to see if I was okay, and I know why that woman had an issue, but no way would she tell the truth.
Government Vacation Rewards is trying to straighten this out, and I should be relaxing right now; not dealing with this nonsense all day. Yes, I called Avis, and the 2 guys that answered the phone were unhelpful & rude. The first one had the nerve to say he didn’t know what the problem was. Really? Then get me your supervisor who may understand why this picture is fouled up.
He puts me on hold too long, and I end up calling back. Second guy was just as mentally disturbed and didn’t understand that this was unacceptable. I called 2 additional times, and they kept trying to explain away what happened, making me crazy. I asked for supervisors and was told they’re operating from their house and can’t access supervisors. No, they don’t want anybody to rat them out on their rotten behavior.
Avis needs to release both holds on my cards. That isn’t supposed to be the way this works. My credit cards are to cover anything after I return the vehicle; not to put holds on my cards. What the entire crap is that? When I spoke with the travel agent, who called Avis before speaking with me, Avis lied and told them they charged me @773.00+ for insurance.
No, both holds haven’t been charged; they’re just preventing me from using my cards. That lady knew what she was doing, nobody is reprimanding anybody, and they overcharged me for this stuff. Avis customer service reps also claimed they did this to me because I presented a debit card when she asked for 2 credit cards. Since when is that a crime? No, being a POC man is the crime here. I have well over what that girl wanted to hold in my checking account.
This is ruining my trip, which I’m sure was the aim of that woman who rented that car to me. I just want to go back home and forget this little excursion. There’s not much I can do with $2,000 wrapped up in my cards while in a foreign land. This trip has already cost me a fortune, and I no longer make the kind of money for shenanigans that employees pull with American travelers. Again, Avis has been paid and all this is unnecessary. I got copies of nothing, by the way and they refuse to email me the contract I signed.
I’ll make videos next since I’m a YouTube content creator. Avis, SHAME ON YOU!
Originally signed up for a program under the name of Digital Resources for $47 and began the learning modules to get myself going. I was into it for about 15 minutes when I received a phone call from a person by the name of Simon Trouseau who gave me a convincing presentation of an upgraded program to get me going faster and better and promised better earnings. $6495!?
He wanted me to give a good testimonial. Did I have any credit cards (he knew I did from the program I just signed up on). To make a long story shorter, I signed up with two credit cards explaining I needed to get fast results in order to make the payments. Him telling me if things didn't work out, if I didn't like what was going on I could always dispute the charges. Too bad I am here giving a bad one. AND they will probably block it somehow.
Three months down the road they are stringing me along and I still do not have a website with income to make the payments. They are not able to follow directions for the website, do not set it up with the information I provide them, everything is wrong and they're telling me I have to correct their mistakes!
At this point I have had enough and uknowingly still within the 90 days for starting a dispute. I have done a little checking online and am dismayed at other people that have been ripped off by these people. Now, I am going to give you some associated names so that you know:
You won't see too much under AVIS Consulting LLC BUT they are the culprit. KREATVE LLC and Warehead.com are the other ones I experienced.
Here it is January 2020 and I have been told by Capital ONE! that I didn't provide them enough information to refund me my one investment of $4500! Stay clear of Capital ONE! My other credit card honored my $2000 and reimbursed me no problem they understood the evidence.
Extreme warnings about these companies. Stay away from ALL of the ones I mentioned.
Total SCAM artists! Confirmed price on phone, with witnesses, including concierge at resort. Stated that they would deliver car for free to resort on Christmas Day, knowing full well that holiday time would limit our immediate choices for recourse.
When car arrived, delivery driver tried to charge us 3 times what was quoted on the phone. We were very frustrated and felt taken advantage of by this organisation. Contacted corporate Avis and they basically said we were screwed because this was more than a franchise and they could and would not do anything. Disavowed the Port Vila location all together.
We rented from Avis thinking there would be protection from such SCAMS by using an international organisation. So not true! This is the third issue we have had over the years with Avis pulling this crap. DO NOT RENT FROM AVIS EVER! In Australia the roadside assistance is horrible too. Can’t imagine roadside assistance in Vanuatu.
Again total crooks here. The manager, who looked like a Somali pirate sent a very young woman to drop the car off at resort. Like sending a child to do his dirty work and con job. Shame on them. Tainted our whole image of Vanuatu. Sad.
We rented an SUV for a three week rental for a road trip. This was normal usage, we weren't in excessively muddy or sandy areas. When the vehicle was returned, the agent at the counter looked at the vehicle and said everything looked fine. A couple of weeks later we received a notice stating the interior was "filthy" and they were charged a $75 cleaning fee for doing nothing more than a quick vaccum of the interior. We did rinse off the exterior of the vehicle because there was quite a bit of bug residue on the exterior. If the interior had been excessively dirty, we would have vaccumed too.
After receiving the notice we were told the interior was just filthy, excessive dirt everywhere. We reviewed the photos they took and saw nothing more than a little dirt and a couple of leaf particles tracked in from shoes or as transfer from loading a bag. Normal for a car that has been driven several thousand miles over a 3 week period. We have photos available but in a pdf. file. If we can figure out how to add them we will.
Went by air to Pittsburgh and because of possible cancelation going back, I arranged a rental car from Avis going back to orlando.Wanted a low price car and sales lady said if I would take a suv back to Orlando I would get a discount. She gave me a price of $59.00 for 2 days total taxes included. This was 09/08/17.
I came in on 09/10/17 and another lady wrote up aggreement with referance # I gave her. the bill came to $86. 41 and I said where was the discount and I asked for 24 hours instead of 48. She said I would have to talk with Avis in Orlando .I was a fool, but I trusted that she was being honest with me and signed for #16.50 for insurance only.
I had car to deliver within 24 hours and Avis said would have to bring it in next day and I would not be charged. Stayed in motel and took car back next day 09/12/17. got bank statement and they charged me $186.00. Called customer service and they put price at $90.00. Said I signed for it so will have to pay it. Their special rate for doing them a favor was $90 dollars for 1 day.
I really thought I could trust the Avis agent as they are a large company. But I was wrong , costly lesson do not trust using Avis for any thing.
Just finished talking to the customer service manager for Avis at their Customer Service number and still did not resolve the add'l charges inflicted, due to their not having the vehicle available that i'd pre paid for. Upon arrival at the St,Louis airport location I was told they did not have the car grade i'd pre paid for and was instead given an upgrade, which in every other car rental situation i'd ever been in, meant a FREE upgrade, since it was NOT my fault they'd over booked their vehicles. Now I'm seeing an add'l charge on my debit card of $5/day + taxes and fees for accepting this upgrade. The manager was gracious enough to give me a 50% discount on these charges, but that is not what I was looking for and was told by him that, that was all he could do for me.
As previously stated, My contract was for an Economy Car. The location did NOT have one available as it was agreed upon in the pre paid contract, through priceline. This is in NO way my problem. They owed me a vehicle for a set time and place and they did NOT have one available. The manager also stated I signed for it, so basically too bad so sad. The lobby and counter was a disaster with so many people waiting for their cars. Is this the kind of smoke screen they perpetuate so they can dupe people into signing things they have no idea they are signing. No body told me I was being up charged for the upgrade. Not impressed with the bait and switch antics. I thought I was dealing with a reputable company, aparently not.
My wife and I often rent vehicles from Budget/Avid rental and at times for a month at a time. Well we extended our rental agreement via telephone directly with customer service who stated they just needed to update the rental return date. Now after returning the car which should have cost approximately $900, we see they charged us $2000 without consent. When I called to complain they stated the car was return with a bunch of stuff in it, filthy dirty and they had to call a repo company to get the car. We cleaned the car prior to returning it, nothing was left in the car and we returned it exactly the day and time we said we would. The best part is I was receiving threatening text messages amd phone calls by an employee stating they were an police officer who works for the government. Not smart to impersonate an officer of the law as that's a felony amd doing it a voice mail and via text. From what I've seen this is a common practice by Avis/Budget rental. They lied about so many issues and no one could answer questions. When they found out I have meticulously kept dates, names and am very organized I was refund the late charge which was completely bogus, the fees for excessive cleaning which we have pictures but no one seems to be able to deal with the repo side. The car was in my driveway so not sure why they charged a $350 repossession fee.
Moving forward I have yet to see the fraudulent repossession fee and have contacted an attorney. Watch your step here because the corporate side adds every charge possible to get over on people many of which probably never notice. They stole nearly $1200 and a good part of that I'm still fighting for. Absolute thievery if you ask me. They dropped the ball on their end but the customer pays. I only got the money back that I did after being told nothing they can do and not their problem because I happen to know the managers boss that told all those lies and made those statements. He screwed up pretty bad until he realized his job was on the line. Never again will myself or anyone I know do business with this company of thieves who basically steal customers money without their knowledge.
