My opinion-well let's see. I'll start with my experience first and then go to my opinion. I rented the car for 6 days. After agreeing to a few options the total was $754.95. I paid you up front $552.82. Balance due on return. Started my trip and arrived at my destination. Then 4 days later a problem unexpectantly happened that I knew I wouldn't be able to return the car on time. I called the Melbourne-Palm Bay Avis. The person answered saying they are closed at 3:45 pm. He couldn't help me. He told me to take it to the Melbourne, FL airport.
He didn't give me the chance to say that I didn't need it any longer and all I wanted to do was to pay for my 6 days and get it back where it can be safe, rather than parked in an unsecured area. Anyway off to the airport I go. Parked it in the Avis lot. Went inside and gave the person behind the counter the key and received a receipt showing that $1064.05 was charged and paid from my credit card. So that's a total of $1064.05 plus $552.82 that equals $1616. 87 from my credit card.
Maybe I missed something here because that's $404.22 per day for the 4 days I had the car. Now a little about the car. I asked and reserved a Mazda CX-5 and was told it was reserved. When I went to pickup the car at the Moline, IL Quad Cities Airport the man behind the counter laughs and says the car hasn't been cleaned yet and oh it's a Kia. I had to take it, doesn't matter that it wasn't what I was told I'd get. It took 6 tanks of fuel to get from Moline, IL to Melbourne, FL. I bruised my head getting in and out of this car.
So you run business this way. Why? Because you can. You don't have to. Now for my feedback or opinion? Not for you because I know you could care less. But for anyone who may be looking to rent a car from you. To let them know what you will do to them and they will say why? Because you can.
Avis is now Avis Budget and it's the worst car rental company on earth. Try calling the local airport office - you can't. It's all routed to a Jamaican customer service line.
You CAN'T REACH THEM. It's like evil robots work at Avis Budget without a drop of human compassion.
I lost something very valuable and spent hours trying to reach anyone at Avis Budget at Oakland's airport. It's gone forever thanks to this hideous car rental company.
I will NEVER rent another car from Avis Budget as long as I live
The government were idiots in allowing this merger to take place. It's another death knell to customer service.
Avis has been tacking multiple charges onto our credit card months after the car we rented in Europe was returned. These charges are purportedly due to Avis being requested to provide our contact information to undisclosed municipalities which requested it. Yes, you read that correctly. Avis provides our name and address to some municipalities and then bills us for 50 bucks for each request. Avis is not being fined or incurring any other cost. They are simply giving out our information and then charging our credit card for $50. The implication is that we received citations of some kind in these municipalities, but we got no moving or parking violations during the trip. When I ask them their justification for charging us, they reply that it is in our terms of service. Avis knows that no one reads the entire terms of service, and even if they did no one would ever expect the rental company to brazenly bill the credit card for something in which they incurred no cost and provided no service. Avis may have the terms of service on their side but they have no concept whatsoever of business ethics or customer service. I intend to make sure their costs in lost business exceed whatever funds they are able to extract from us, and also to make their task of extracting the funds as difficult as possible by disputing all their charges.
Budget uses eToll services on their rental cars for crossing toll booths, and it will be charged into your car rental bill.
The catch is you will be charged $3.95 per day of the rental even if you do not actually use the service and you paid for the toll booth in CASH, or if you're up in the mountains and your car is just sitting there.
Budget rental will not point this out to you when you sign the form agreements.
When it happened to me and I called Budget to dispute it, the person and manager on the phone would not even dare to tell me their full name!
It may be in the agreement forms but this is definitely sneaky business practice and it's bad business practice. At least give people a heads up before they sign it!
Obviously, it's done to make a short-term profit for themselves. And the only argument they have is that it's in the agreement. Society has taken fine print and the letter of the law to extremes, at their own peril! They just don't seem to understand the basic law of success for all businesses: treat customers right. People are not dumb. Businesses do not have to be perfect, but customers know the difference between being treated right and being treated poorly. All businesses that break this time-tested rule have seen their businesses suffer or go out of business if they fail to mend their ways.
I rented a car from Budget Car Rental, on the internet, to be picked up at Orlando International Airport (MCO) on 03 November 2015, at 5 PM. I was told where to find the vehicle. On starting the engine I recognized that the fuel gauge registered 3/4 full but, assumed that this was standard operating procedure. At the check-out gate confusion I failed to mention this to the attendant.
I returned the car 7 days later with the fuel gauge registering in excess of 3/4 full. The ckeck-in person told me to visit the counter in the terminal due to the fuel level. I disputed their assement with the above facts and, was told to go. It was 5 AM in the morning. Budget personel with authority had not arrived yet.
I recieved a statement, billing me for 2 or 3 gallons of gas. In realty a surcharge in excess of 10%. On 2 December, at 1:29 PM I contacted the Budget billing/complaint operator. In a 13 minuite conversation I explanined the situation. The only responce offered were repeated NO's. There was no effort to understand or compromize. I was talking to a stone wall. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was informed that I was talking to him. I gave up.
This happened at Orlando International, be especially cautious there. This felt like their standard Rip-off scam.

I could not agree more with the post i just read regarding Budget rent a car in Las Vegas at the airport.
In short, we reserved a car which Budget could not provide.
after assuring us that we would be reimbursed for TAXI's which we now had to take, they made no reimbursemnt.
they claimed that since we never picked up a vehicle, there was nothing to reimburse.
picking up a vehicle was never an option as they had no minivans available. (even though we had a reservation)
we explained that we had to alter our vacation plans and were unable to visit relatives who live outside the Vegas area.
they couldnt have cared less and were very unsympathetic to the situation which they caused
they tried to give us cupons for a future rental!
will never rent from Budget again and will go to the grave telling every living soul i meet, not to patronize this compnay or thier affiliates.
