Aveda Institute Chapel Hill Reviews
I was a student at Aveda Chapel Hill NC and setup a meeting with Professional Development less than half way through the completion of the cosmotology program to discuss transferring to another school.
I arranged a meeting with the Aveda of Chapel Hill Professional department as well as Aveda of Chapel Hill Financial Aid prior to any transfer / withdrawal action taking place to discuss my current progress through the cosmetology program, outstanding balance owed, review of original signed contract, and to request information about transferring to another school.
The lady from Aveda Chapel Hill (financial aid) said it would take a few days to schedule the meeting since she had to speak and coordinate with accounting first. She called me back to schedule the meeting a few days later stating that she had spoke with accounting and set a time and date for me to come sit down and discuss my current progress and next steps.
I arrived with my contract, and they were very supprised that I still had my contract in hand and even said, "Wow you actually read that". They arrived to the meeting with a document of outlined loans and the document had my completed percentage of 49.1 of the program and we reviewed the original contract which states that a completion of 49% would entitle me to 30% tuition reimbursement and notated on the financial document (previously attached) the portions of the loan I would be refunded as well as the portion of the contractual balance that I would not be responsible for.
The whole purpose of following the above process was to ensure that I would be able to transfer without owing the original contracted amount.
Individuals representing Aveda of Chapel Hill Professional Development and Accounting were in person at this meeting and stated that I would be receiving a refund and since I was at 49.1% attendance that I should process a withdrawal that day to transfer.
I took their advice and processed my withdrawal to find out that a month later they have one of their sister companies in Ohio trying to collect a debt of approx $8000. The individuals did not even attempt to contact me via mail, they just sent an email from a domain @nurturaveda.com that does not seem to even be part of the school.
If I knew that the school was going to pull a stunt like this I would have kept my apartment in NC and just finished school. Now that I have spent the money to move and turned in my keys to my old apartment; it is much harder to resolve this issue.
Aveda sent an email saying "you have been approved for payment plans serviced by Asset Financial Services. This is their 3rd party that collects the debts so it doesnt appear that Aveda is involved in these type scams that are being reported all over the nation. Just go look and read the verbatims on their websites.
Please Help! I would like to sue Aveda for the $8000 and the amount of the two student loans they said I would be refunded; due to the amount of course completion I completed.
