I want to let you know about a situation that has recently transpired based in part on a EBAY Motors listing. Toyota Man ( YouTube ) in which Brett A Young Benton City, WA. sold me a vehicle that was supposedly an easy fix for beginners, but is anything but that. For the record he listed it there on EBay after I showed interest on FBMP for clarity purposes.
It was also featured in a 10 min YouTube Video which has since been removed for some reason along with his other vehicles he was offering. For the record, according to the Dept. of Licensing in WA, Mr. Brad Warr " there are no licensing requirements for automotive appraisers and his operation is not licensed as a dealership " , surprising considering Brett writes that "he has sold 1000's of cars in the past 25 years".
Disappointed is putting it mildly to say the least. With his advertised 25 years in the business of Automotive Appraisals and doing Pre-Buy Inspections, not to mention countless frame off restorations for six figures (100K +) on International Harvester Scouts , Toyota FJ's, AMC Grand Wagoneers, Ford Broncos, Jeeps including Commando 1973 "his favorite" and Land Cruisers, one would expect accuracy to be paramount.
I expressed my very low skill level and even asked Brett from the onset if I should seek a third party inspection, he assured me he was the only inspector in the area. He wrote to me that he would put his mechanic on it to make certain all the major things were gone over.
There are way too many items to list here that are major and beyond father and son tinkering to mention, but to name a few, wiring arcing in dash, blinkers causing sparks behind dash, backfiring, engine dieseling, 4x4 not working, gages not functioning, overheating engine, ignition falling out of dash on arrival, doors way out of alignment won't close without slamming, radiator filled with very large rusty chunks of metal, windows don't close without two hands, windshield cracked in two spots, rear differential wrapped with exhaust tape are but a few items.
Suffice it to say here, I am not pleased with his lack of professionalism, accuracy of description and blatant omission of serious flaws. In addition I paid for an extremely poor, not to mention, dangerous installation of an exhaust system to boot, bad welds and brake cable striking the muffler.
The condition of the vehicle fails to come remotely close to what was represented and I would not suggest this business to anyone, ever. We saved up our money to buy this exact model and make it a family bonding experience, but instead got duped on a vehicle that requires a full frame off restoration in a professional shop with thousands and thousands of dollars of repairs.
A far cry from an entry level ( 1 ) father and son vehicle from what experts in my town have expressed. This has not been a pleasant experience with this purchase whatsoever since it arrived. His only response came just the day before yesterday on FBM " you are welcome to come here and file suit " and added some random comment asking " I wonder if you have paid the FL sales tax of 6% on the 1973 Jeep you wired me $11,500 for? " "Well I better do the right thing and find out".
I cannot make this stuff up, honestly.
We were taken advantage of in my opinion and others agree. We have lost faith in Automotive Appraisals & Pre Buy Inspection a.k.a Cruiser Part Source Benton, City WA.
In my opinion, this is not an acceptable way of doing business anywhere by anyone. The Fair Market Value of a vehicle in this poor condition is no more than $2500.00 and more than likely what he offered on the trade for a restored 1991 Grand Cherokee " Final Edition.
The appropriate solution would be to pick up the vehicle and refund our $11,500 or refund the difference of $9000 without further blaming the customer. If he is a businessman he will resolve this issue posthaste.
