However, when it was time to pay and complete the paperwork, they surprised me by stating an additional 5% charge will be added for using a credit or debit card, bringing the total to $19,000. This information was not mentioned in our original email conversation. Nevertheless, I chose to proceed because my girlfriend and I had already traveled a long distance, and I didn't want to waste my pregnant girlfriend's time. I should also mention that upon reviewing the receipt, I noticed that the advertised price of $16,995 was not mentioned anywhere, which would have been expected along with the additional charges.
The second problem arose when my girlfriend went to have the car inspected as the inspection sticker was about to expire in July 2023. The mechanic requested the title to initiate the inspection process. I contacted the dealership, and they gave me two options: either drive another three hours to pick up the title or pay for it to be delivered to me, even though they had originally promised to send the title without mentioning any additional fees for delivery. I consulted with the NJ DMV and other car sales professionals to attempt to get my title another way and they confirmed that the dealership should have provided me with the title on the same day of purchase, and I should have left with it. However, the dealership has not yet resolved this issue, and the temporary license plate on the car has expired as of July 12, 2023 rendering the car ilegal to use.
