Auto Engine Rebuilding Pros Stated price of $1185, in an ad and then via phone, for Ford 302 CU engine rebuilding, which included engine removal and installation. Thought price was cheap but they said it was because they are high volume rebuilder.
Dropped off truck and waited two weeks for a response then when I heard from them my wife told them I was unavailable as I had switched jobs and was on East coast now and she would be the intermediary. Well from that moment my costs all of the sudden went from $1185 to $2500.
I called and was given this line about well that didn't include this and that, including the head bolts which are always changed in any engine rebuild, and they wanted to add them on additionally.
I had all brand new NAPA components (Waterpump, Alt, Etc) and belts that literally had less than 25 miles on them (with receipts for proof) and they charged me for new again. They didn't care and when I said I want the parts they took off...”we already disposed of them” was the reply.
Still pondering legal action but need to make sure others are aware of the misconception these folks perpetrate on their customers. This rebuild could have been done by the Ford dealer for what I had to pay them.
Also the engine won’t idle properly and when ran till warms up it won’t start again till it cools down. Oh…and they had the starter solenoid wired wrong which is virtually impossible as they have specific sized eyelets on the connections.
