I purchased a vehicle from Auto Depot Inc online auction. The vehicle was advertised as a vehicle in excellent condition online. So I paid $250 deposit through PayPal to Auto Depot Inc. I carried the rest of the payment amount in cash and drove 5 hours to Auto Depot Inc. I met the owner, he introduced himself as John. So I started to inspect the vehicle that I wanted to buy.
I immediately found some problems which the owner did not declare in the advertisement. Rear passenger side power lock does not work at all. It can only be locked / unlocked manually. Rear passenger side window tint was tripped. The headliner was off the ceiling, and this is the show stopper for me. Seller did not declare these obvious issues in his online advertisement, otherwise i would not buy this vehicle at all.
Since it's due to the vehicle condition that stopped me from buying this vehicle, I asked seller my deposit back. I offered $50 to the seller to reimburse him online listing fee, and get my $200 back from the $250 deposit i paid. Seller agreed verbally at the time i was at his shop, but I never received any refund after that.
I own a small car dealership in central Florida and I found 99 no reserve, or what ever he calls it, on Ebay . I thought he’s local and his reviews looked real ??? I bought a 2008 Audi from John, MY HUGE MISTAKE!!! John sent me his checking account number and bank so I could go to a local bank and deposit cash directly into his account to pay for my purchase , another BIG MISTAKE!! John promised the delivery , I m calling him thinking the car was on the way, 4 hour trip, to me in Lakeland. He answers the phone and says " I was just about to call you ,I went to put gas in your car but an airbag light on and I’m not going to be able to deliver it today. BTY, the car was flat empty when it arrived here in Lakeland . I tell him " you know I have someone I have been communicating with you about that’s going to be taking the car out of state tonight” , he said " I cancelled your delivery” My first indication he’s a liar.
He uses an online service for people to bid on his car deliveries. He has someone deliver the car it arrived after nine pm, no biggie right???My car was unloaded I put into my garage , and I immediately see my hood covered in fine scratches and the air bag light was on. I immediately send John a text to say " you didn’t disclose the hood with hundreds of scratches” . I knew I had a problem when he immediately said "only contact me through EBAY” . looked at the car the next morning , all tires were listed at 60% which is around 6/32. My right front tire had the steel belts showing . My rear tires were at 1/32 and wore out . I started the car and on came a check engine light, an airbag light and the TPMS light sensor , I began contacting John each time a new issue would occur. At noon I attempted to use the AC and no cool air came out . I took the car to TRUE TIRE in a lakeland and was advised this car has multiple issues. My ac compressor has to be replaced -652.00 dollars, it has low profile tires -19 inch at 150.00 dollars each. John said a seat belt switch he would supply for the said air bag light. I have yet to receive it, so that’s 280.00 to fix. My check engine light code says the air meter is defaulted and must be replaced. I sent John and EBAY my estimates for repair, John has would only say, It was fine when it was here. Ebay says none of the issues I have are covered by them , even though he lied about the cars condition. I will supply pictures of the issues with this car to anyone who is considering purchasing a car from Auto Depot LLC Jacksonville .
I have also contacted the BBB and was advised John has a F rating and has multiple complaints about buisness. It was my fault to trust the Ebay scoring system, and John at Auto Depot , and will result in costing me a few thousand dollars to fix the misrepresented car sold to me.I offered to take this car to a repair shop of Johns choice and pay for and inspection , he mearly said” do you think imma fool” . In my opinion John will lie and sell cars that are not as he claims, I would not buy a vehicle from this person under no circumstances. Feel free to contact me if you have been taken advantage by this person. I am in the process of discussing my issues with folks at Florida.Gov. Darrell P
I purchased an Acura that I thought would be in good shape based on the write-up on ebay. When I first got the car, it was obvious that the windshield was cracked, the fog lights were cracked, the tires were worn out, and the seats had been painted. This was obvious upon first seeing the car. I say that the car was mis-represented because the ebay ad said the tires were at 70%. The front tires were at 4/32 which is not 70%. The windshield has a large crack in it, and when I contacted the seller, he said that he hadn't seen it. The crack goes from the top to the bottom of the windshield. It is obvious, but it was not disclosed in the ebay ad. The fog lights are obviously cracked. The seller has a mechanic that goes over the car. Again, this was obvious and not disclosed. Finally, the ad stated that the car still had a new Acura car smell. This led me to believe that the interior was in good shape. I have been in new Acuras, and I know what it smells like. This car did not have that smell, and it was obvious that the seats were no longer the leather that Acura cars come with. Instead, they had been painted to look good, but they feel terrible. The car also had a warning light for the TPMS System and an intermittent warning light for the Engine Oil level. In the ebay ad, it was stated that there were no warning lights on.
I immediately contacted John about the windshield, and he said he would refund me $200 for the windshield. That seemed fair.
Then, I brought the car to my local mechanic to get the car checked out. When I went to pick up the car, the mechanic said "Don't buy this car. It is a mess." It told her it was too late. She gave me an estimate (attached) of $5800 for work that needed to be done including new tires, new timing belt, cracked motor mounts, loose tie rod, replacing rear suspension, windshield, fog lights, and other items.
I was shocked. I contacted John, and his message back to me is that this is an old car with high mileage, and I should have expected some work.
My husband is also a mechanic, and I discussed the situation with him. He said that the windshield, the fog lights, the motor mounts, the tires, the rear suspension, and the tie rod were all items that were easily seen by visual inspection or experienced with a quick test ride. John, my Auto Depot contact, has a mechanic who reviews all of his cars, yet these items were not disclosed in the ebay ad.
My mechanic also talked to John about the issues they found. In my mechanic's words, John just tried to justify the problems. My mechanic didn't care about that. She was just reporting what had been found.
At this point, I was really upset about what I had purchased. We agreed that my husband and John would talk. My husband said that we had basically purchased a car that had been treated poorly and not kept up. We were facing a lot of work and a large bill. John said the most he would refund us was $500. I told him that we would not accept that, and our minimum was $1500. I had initially asked for $3000 which I felt was fair given the estimate of $5800. John said that he needed to talk to his partner about it. I was patient for a month waiting to hear what his partner said. Unfortunately, his partner was sick so I never really got an answer back. It was getting close to the window where I can no longer leave feedback so I just had to leave the feedback.
This has been a miserable experience for me. The final insult in this process is that I don't have clear title on the car. On one of the change of ownership documents, someone signed a name that should not have been signed. I am working through Auto Depot/John to get the correction, but I don't even know when that will happen.
As a result of all of this and the lack of space in my feedback to provide all of this detail, I sum it up with "Don't buy a car on ebay." That's my lesson with all of this. Auto Depot had 100% positive reviews so I thought it was worth the risk. It was not worth the risk. Once I posted the negative feedback, John sent my feedback for third part review saying that my feedback should be removed because I: 1. Never let him know that I had problems with the car. (This was a lie. I have proof of multiple texts with him, and I also had a couple of phone conversations.) 2. The estimate from my mechanic did not have a company name on it so he said the estimate was fraudulent. (This was John trying to throw question on to whether I was actually in contact with a mechanic. John had at least two conversations with my mechanic. He knows that my mechanic and the quote were legitimate.) John seems to work the system in order to keep 100% positive feedback on ebay, but looking elsewhere on the Internet, it is obvious there are people who are dissatisfied. It is important for people to know that the ebay feedback system is flawed, and John is dishonest.
This is a review or Auto Dept Inc located at 14476n Duval Pl W #302, Jacksonville Fl, Also Ebay username 99NoReserve and according to Google they have some sort of store at 7721 Blanding Blvd Jax.
Owner John Edmondson is the epitome of the dishonest horrible scum car dealer we all fear, I am sure there are worse out there but it would be a tough search. Dealers like John hide behide the "as is" paperwork that you sign before driving away. On with the story ..... John listed this vehicle on Ebay as "one of the best he's ever had", perfect engine, tranny, interior, no check engine lights, I talked to him several times to confirm this before purchasing, he had great feedback so the deal went through. I made the trip down and was sent out to the back of the lot to pick it up, obviously hadn't been driven in sometime, few scratches, passenger seat all marred up, everything in me screamed to walk away, like an idiot I didn't. I made the trip home and took it to my mecahnic to check the check engine light that had come on, he found block sealer in the engine masking a blown head gasket as well as black sealant leaking from a crack in the block next to the starter, cha ching, theres a $1500 used engine replacement that just hit the wallet, I contact John, of course he had no idea and said things happen to used vehicles, typical shady car dealer response. If you see Johns business on Duval it looks like a chopshop, every bandaid possible being put on cars to kick them out cheap online. He pushes you for a quick deposit and payment to lock you in, you know you will never see it back if you try to pull out of the deal, if you purchase through ebay he will not give you the keys or paperwork until you leave him positive feedback in the office, hence the great feedback rating I got suckered into, he said that was the policy of his partner, yeah right. Ebay will do nothing for any cars over 10 years so they are no help, though they said they would investigate the feedback issue, I'm sure its happened to others. So do your research on this guy and Auto Depot before buying anything, a simple google search taught me a lot after the fact. If the place on Blanding is a dealership its probably selling the same junk he sells online.
