Hello angry ATN Temps, I too am a victim of ATN Promo, also know as Across the Nation Modeling Promo staffing ltd. It began in the summer of 2015 when i received an email about a 3 day promotional job at a fair ground. I inquired with an atn rep who confirmed me for the job. This was a week prior to the event. The pay rate stated $15.00/hr. About a day before the event i received a mass recipient email about atn needing last minute temps for the exact same job, only this time atn offered pay $20.00/hr. This is where my confusion began. Will I be earning less than the other temps for the same exact job? I began reading over emails and assuming the attachnents were job details but instead were social media links if atns.
I was never given the address to the event. This prompted me to call Jessica Torres and ask for directions the night before. Originally I only knew the city and my gps stated the distance was roughly 30 minutes, no big deal, but once i gps the exact address it was nearly one hour from my home. I immediately contacted Jessica Torres and stated the event would be a total of 2hrs driving per day and that i could not accept this job. That's when she replied "we pay for gas". So i replied "Deal!" We essentially made a deal. DAY 1 - I arrived 20 mib early & immediately contacted the onsite supervisor to tell him i was there. I waiting at a gate for 20 minutes and still did not see the onsite supervisor, who was suppose to grant me access to the event.
Finally i called him again asking where he was and he told me i was at the wrong gate! Thanks for clarifying this after wasting 20 minutes. THESE PEOPLE ARE NOT SPECIFIC ENOUGH YET AGAIN! Finally i met with him and he has me park my vehicle and wait for his call. By this time the event had started. I waited another 20 minutes in my car and called him back - I was afraid i miss his call due to bad reception - He tells me "I think we got enough people, hold on!" Finally he calls me and says come up in the most lack luster tone i can imagine. As i arrived i realized why his tone was so unwelcoming of me, even though i book the job a week in advance compared to another atn temp who was booked only the night before: I was the only black person at the entire event.... !
Nothing new for me... I work well will all races, heck sometimes im whiter than my white friends! lol ANYWAYS, He finished training the other 2 atn temps and lastly went to me. The entire event i smiled, did my job joyfully, got along well with all of the fair patrons and even made friends w some temps while still maintaing my professionalism on the job. I had blast! The onsite temp never uttered a work to me for 8 hrs. however. Instead he walked to and from each employee, asked them how they were, even made them laugh and would walk right past me. I keep a smile on my face but inside i felt left out. I observed this onsite supervisor poorly as he did not do a good job in making sure his staff were well adjusted....
Later i found out he was with another company in connecticut where he mayve never seen a person who wasnt white (lol /js) so i took it with a grain of salt... By the next day he began talking to me and learned i didnt bite and neither did he. This was minor to my encounter with Jessica Torres, the actual atn rep. Once i completed my duties for the weekend ALL COMMUNICATION STOPPED. It took 3 texts, 2 missed phone calls from me and 3 days later before Jessica followed up with me. I text her "Hi im trying to give you my reciepts for the gas and mileage, how do i do so?" She relied "You only get paid for gas" (still with no answer to how to do so). 30 minutes later she still didnt answer my question. I had to text her again "where do i submit these? Do you want me to email them?"
I literally had to feed her words and take initiative. She finally responded "yes" with her email address. BUT I KNEW from her reluctance to give me a straight answer via text I knew this an emailing game was going to began. [I JUST HAD A FEELING SHE WAS RELUCTANT TO PAY ME.] Jessica Torres did never asked me to completed a background check, reviewed payroll policy with anyone nor had she asked me to complete a single document divulging my identity. I did some digging around on the web, reached out to another atn rep all the way in New York and was finally forwarded all documents for payroll. 3 WEEKS LATER - I checked my direct deposit and i still didnt get paid!! The Atrium website says direct deposit is distributed weekly, so why was there a delay?" I emailed Jessica stating this. She replied that it takes 15-20 business days to get paid.
FINALLY, aproximately 1 month after i did the work i got paid, but not in full!!! What was Jessica Torres doing all of this time? All of the texts and emails - all i vein! I emailed her immediately and said i received payment but not for gas. (nearly 400 miles worth.) This is when Jessica lost all professional points about herself and began refered to me as a man. In an email she forwarded to me and another ATN employee she refered to me as a male "who needed help with HIS expense [gas]." Jessica knew i wasnt a man, we had conversations on the phone, emails about my name change on the website; This made me feel disrespected, but i replied with a simple "Thank You." A week later i already expected another game so this time i emailed Jessica Torres in advance stating that i do not want to continue emailing you i just simply want to be fully compensated for my work.
I stated that her misrepresentation of me as male may have caused further delayed in my payroll. Now my identity is not even known. From that point forward Jessica Torres from ATN Illinois ignored me. Lucky for me i am a law student and i love a good lesson in litigation so i contacted a WORKERS COMP ATTORNEY and we spoke. "Yes you have a legitimate claim. You have copies of the texts and it clearly states the agreement you and Mrs. Torres made about gas." My attorney and I were aroused because justice was in our corner. My attorney called Jessica personally about my claim. My attorney assure me that ATNPromo would stop playing with my money, because otherwise they're liable for the gas money claim, my attorney fees and other monetary damages, and if Jessica Torres and ATNPromo were wise they would cut my check and be done with this. I said OK. ......!
Less than 24 hrs later Jessica emailed me and was sweet as pie, she said she was working with payroll about the matter, and by the following week i received full reimbursement for the work i did! No court filings or breech, it was all squared away! Moral of the story, PRINCIPLE outweighs PAYMENT. DO NOT WORK FOR ANY COMPANY YOU CANNOT PHYSICALLY GO TO. Do a BBB search prior to accepting jobs with unfamilar companies. NEVER lose your temper and know your work rights!! I almost wanted to email the ATN owner but after reading some reviews on ripoff about him i figured that would be another lost cause!
