Selling a vehicle on Craigslist, potential buyer contacted me. Craigslist generated email names him Robert Cortbeil, he said he would pay full price for the truck if I purchased the report to satisfy his loan officer. This is a scam, he either gets a referral fee, or the entire fee if this website itself is not legit.
I wised up last second and didn't buy, thankfully. I'm guessing the website is legitimate, because I actually entered the VIN and got to the point of almost purchasing the report with a credit card. Hope this helps someone avoid these scumbag thieves!
Thank you we just avoided being scammed by a Roberts Powell or Robert Powell. Got suspicious when he sent 2 different names. Same MO. what a bunch of jerks.
First I got an email asking for my email bc “her husband is very interested in my car”. Then received email from “David ducanes” asking if it had mechanical issues. Then asked me to go to cthreport.com and had a huge story about his loan officer with multiple grammatical errors, so I knew it was a scam
I had the exact same thing happen when selling my car from Craigslist two weeks ago. A woman emailed me asking for my personal email address for her husband who is very interested in the car. He sent me two emails asking for me to purchase the loan from vtreports.com (hyperlink) and explaining he needed this report to satisfy his loan officer. The email is poorly written and I'm glad I trusted my instincts and searched out the website first. Thanks to everyone else for posting here too!
I got an email from someone asking about my personal email for their boyfriend. I gave it to them and got an email from a Rob Mattran. He needed a Vin number from Athreport.com to satisfy his loan officer and was even willing to reimburse me the $24 if he ended up buying the vehicle. I was about to do it and researched Athreport.com on whois.com. It seems like a legitimate company but when I searched more articles, I found many scam reports on this website that described my situation. I have the original purchase papers and I am waiting to see if that would suffice. I asked for a phone number to see if they would provide it. Hope this helps everyone.
Just got the same request from Rob Mattran who was referred to me by his wife supposedly, only difference is he wants a vehicle history report from vtreports.com to satisfy his loan officer for a personal loan!
I had a response from a David Dancanes as I tried to sell my truck on craigslist. He asked for a title report from a specific website (https://cthreport.com) to satisfy his loan officer. Although this is my first time trying to sell a vehicle on Craigslist, I was kind of skeptical. I entered information all the way until it wanted a payment, and that is when I backed out. I then googled this guy's name, and noticed the scam reports on this site. Thank you all for reporting it, or I may have entered my credit card information.
Had an email from Yvone about the truck I was selling. Asked if her husband could email me directly about the truck. David Dacanes emailed me and sent me the same link as above. This guy must be so
SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT TRUST DEBORAH AND HER "MOTHER" OR CHARLES SHADE
Hey everyone! I also just got an email from Deborah who was inquiring for her "mother", I also gave her my personal email, and within a day a guy named Charles Shade emailed me asking to click on the link "www.athreports.com..." and I did!
Fortunately something was off with the car report button, which I also clicked.... Im really hoping they didn't steal any personal information from me.
Posted my car on Craigslist. Got an e-mail from a 'Debra' who was inquiring for her mother. I responded to her e-mail (from Craigslist) and gave 'her' my personal e-mail address. Next response was from a guy 'David Dancanes' who wanted me to click on a link in his e-mail "www.athreports.com" to get a vehicle history report for his loans officer. I typed the address myself into Safari and got the response 'Server not found'. I never clicked on his link. Had a bad feeling from the beginning just the way his e-mail was written. Always trust your instincts.
Same guy, same website, same story, and the same scam. I clicked on the link through my phone and its a website looking for a VIN number. I didnt type it in or click anything further.
