Athene has been steadily withdrawing $181.58 from my bank account for years. I have been calling for months trying to get any information regarding my annuity. This is an annuity that was originally with Aviva. Athene says they cannot provide the information since they have given the account to one of their "other branches", Alliance One. I Google'd Alliance One and it says it is a collection agency. I asked Athene if Alliance One was in fact a collection agency and I was told no. I was given a number to reach them and when I called the m they told me that the accounts were in transition and they would have to get the information from Athene. I spent $30 and stopped payment on the Athene ACH withdrawals. Someone is in possession of several thousand dollars belonging to me and neither Athene or Alliance One will provide me with any information!!
For years I paid monthly life insurance premiums electronically, where Athene simply requested and obtained premium payment directly from my bank. In December of 2016 they stopped taking premium payments, with no notice to me. I contacted them and askled why they hadn't taken payment and was advised they were "converting" my policy and others to a new system and it would take a while. I heard nothing for 6 months and contacted them, but received the same story. This happened several more times, each time with the same response. I should add that it is EXTREMELY difficult to get through to anyone on their customer service line in order to get any type of explanation.
Finally, this month - 15 months after they last debited my bank account- I was advised by Athene that they would be drafting my bank account in about 2 months for the entire 17 months of premium in a lump sum, but would give me 10 days notice before actually doing so.
Fortunately I do not have a large life insurance policy so the lump-sum premium payment, while significant for a retiree, can be managed over time. I can't help but be concerned for people who had larger life insurance policies with much larger premiums, and who now must pay 17 months of those premiums in a lump sum. I can't conceive of a life insurance company taking 17 months to convert policies to a new system AND not collect premiums for that same period.
I wondered if this was an effort to encourage people to simply drop their insurance policies rather than pay 17 months of premium in a lump sum. The policy seems attractive in terms of increasing value and my worry was whether it was too expensive for Athene to allow it to continue in force. I therefore also worry about their financial stability.
After this experience I would not recommend this company, especially in terms of service and in terms of possible financial issues. Will it still be around when it is time for a payout?
Athene Annuity & Life Company Athene Life Insurance Company of New York we received a letter from Athene advising of a TPA would take over servicing our life policy December of 2015 - when i call to find out status of our life policy, the CSR states the policy is in force but still in transition - once the transition is complete, they will back bill us for premiums. they have no idea when the transition will be complete. It ha's been a total nightmare dealing with them since they changed from Aviva! Even back when it was CGU, I never had a problem. Always got my money @ week and half before the 1st. Now its been a hassle every month since December. I receive monthly annuity payments. I don't want to write what happened every month, but I'll give you an idea. At first my payment came around a week after it was supposed to. Next one came a week after that payment? ! Almost a month early! Then I get told next one should be coming on the 6th? But told to call back. I was told the 6th numerous times, even by the elusive supervisor!.The 6th comes, no check. I call they say there's no way anyone said the 6th,its the 26th! Everytime I call I get a very rude lady, named Felicia. She loves to pick fights, will never let you speak to anyone else, and can never give me correct information. At this time it's been 52 days since my last payment, I'm really stressed Every bill I have is now late, I'm stuck 1600 miles from home, and out of everything! The 26th comes. No check! Then Felicia says it's been processed on the 26th at midnight, tonight? ? So I ask isn't that the 27th? She argued that it wasnt. I say so it hasn't been processed then? She said yes it has, the 26th at midnight, tonight. I eventually gave up. Now a new month, its the 28th, and haven't received this months check, Felicia told me it was processed the 26th, andrefused to let me talk to a supervisor,or anyone else. I ask if she's the only one in the whole place? She informed me that she is the only one that works there! ? I kept calling back until I got someone new. She even let me talk to a supervisor. He told me checks weren't even processed yet,(thanks Felicia) and the bank takes 3-5 days (since when) to get it. And with the holiday it will probably be late. He also tells me it just has to be processed before the due date (1st) to not be late!? If I tried that with the electric company, I'd have no power! At least they actually offered to pay me back for all the late fees they caused. But it's not going to fix my credit!
On Oct. 18, 2016 I requested a loan from my annuity, Athene. I spoke with an Athene rep to ensure I could take out a loan and was informed yes. Before submitting my paperwork I called Athene's to verify they recieved all the necessary paperwork. I caledl 10 days later, my request was still processing. Dec. 13, 2016, I called again to follow up with my loan request an a rep says we have up to 20 days to process the loan and it was escalated to a supervisor. Dec. 19 2016, a rep now says it sometimes takes longer with a conversion and he can't tell me the timeframe in which I can get a loan on my money. I ask ed for a supervisor noone's available. I asked for the name of the supervisor the loan was escalated too, and I only get the first name Amy. No last name could be provided due to security and the supervisor has up to 72 hours to call me back. My husband and I both have our teacher annuities with the company. We have not received any statements. Icalled and requested for a statement in September, Ive yet to receive a statement.
Athene turned over their Annuity accounts to Alliance-One on January 1st of 2016.
Normally I receive my "statement" in Febuary, 6 months later Alliance-One still has not sent out statements.
All I have is a Phone number 855 615 2276. Calls to Athene refer me back to this number. When I call, each month, all I get is "we are working on the accounts". Does this company really exist?
