-8 visits total/4 different parts “replaced” with original complaint of little ice/minimal ice production
-24 hours of precious PTO time off work for my husband lost due to 12-4pm window option
-finished basement water damage due to missed problem since 1st evaluation ($1,400 bid to repair)
-March 21st-original call to Whirlpool for appliance repair-I was given At Your Service's info, as they were “Whirlpool Certified” and preferred service company. I contacted them same day for appt.
-March 29th-1st service call- defective icemaker diagnosed-required payment of $299.06 for part made
-April 5th- 2nd visit, 1st repair call. Ice maker replaced, ice maker STILL NOT WORKING.
-April 7th-3rd visit, 2nd evaluation of problems-now determined, after technician had to call Whirlpool for guidance, that it was not ice maker, but fill tube heater that was bad. Freezing line, they said.
-April 15th-4th visit, 2nd repair call. Fill tube heater replaced. DID NOT FIX PROBLEM. Technician threw objects in my kitchen out of frustration when having troubles with parts removal etc. Dropped entire freezer door onto 7quart dog water bowl, spilling water all over my adjacent laundry room floor, and into floor vent. “Door ajar” warning dinging upon his departure, and dispenser for water AND ice not working/engaging. This was only due to the fact he didn't check unit before leaving. He returned in a few minutes to fix, after violently ripping front panel off dispenser to evaluate issue.
-April 16th- Call placed to At Your Service by me, to inform them, yet again, that problems still not fixed. Also asked to speak to owner about issues with technician, and to inquire about bills we were getting emailed to us for ALL service calls/repairs above-as we were told “no further charges” until fixed.
-April 27th-5th visit/owner eval. After MANY failed attempts to reach Kirby, the owner, he finally agreed to meet us after hours to evaluate fridge himself. He didn't look at fridge, and determined based on ice cube size, “he knew what the real problem is.” He was also frustrated that the technician hadn't diagnosed correctly thus far. He ordered 3rd part, in-line valve, which he says was problem. Never looked at fridge.
-May 9th-6th visit/3rd repair call. Upon replacing valve, technician noted that in-line hose to water supply inside dispenser was completely cracked/split at connection point, and that this was our problem. Hardwoods soaked, and water line on baseboards. My husband evaluated finished basement, as he has been doing often, to discover full leak through ceiling, into dry wall, and black mold. We had been out of town during this leak from fridge. Technician repaired valve, but kept water supply off to fridge, and ordered new in-line hose to be installed following day.
May 10th- 7th visit/4th repair call. Incorrect part was given by warehouse, and technician was unable to contact them due to them being closed for day.
May 11th-8th visit/5th repair call. Tried contacting owner about flooding in basement. NO return call. New tube was longer/narrower in diameter, and that was questioned by my husband. We were told it was “probably new and improved version.” Installed. PROBLEM NOT FIXED, and now, we have 5 second water dispense, due to less water pressure to dispenser, and now no ice being made.
May 12th-I attempted to contact owner again about flooding, and repair problems. NO return call. I informed staff that I would be coming in for refund the following day, to which they finally informed me later that day, “a check is waiting for you.”
May 13th- Took my lunch hour to drive down for refund check, only to find out it was $79.75 less that what we paid, and I was (by him on phone) informed he was “charging service fee” since we decided to go elsewhere.” He states he is “Confident we can repair your ice maker, and I've told you I am willing to work with you on cost etc, you are the one choosing to go elsewhere.”
I explained my husband has lost all remaining PTO (24 hours total used) for the first (6) 12-4pm service calls he had to be home for, and that we just don't have any more time to keep “trying to fix it.” I then told him I was trying my best to resolve this privately and peacefully, and that I had advised our family attorney what the best option was. Which, my attorney advised above request for refund, and moving on without court dates etc. Kirby then yelled, “Fine, you have HIM call me.” I left the office at that moment. Conclusion: I deposited check, for all it was worth, and am taking EVERY action I can to make sure NO ONE ELSE has to go through what we have. I have complaints into Whirlpool for horrible referral, working on BBB complaint form, and taking the entire weekend to share this review with ANY review site I can. This company doesn't even deserve the title of “appliance repair” on any level, and frankly, I'm not sure how they're still in business.
