I was contacted by Aspire several times and listened to the pitch. That was my first mistake. They promised to help me build on online business. I had been looking for this oppurtunity, so I was interested. The rep hooked into me and before I knew it, she had ordered a credit card in my name due to my high credit score (zero debt) and said I should use that for half of the 3000$ down. She had me quickly sign and that was that. It was very high pressure, misleading, and skewered information. I began to read some reviews right here on Ripoff, and then changed my mind. I knew I had 3 days to backout of the contract, which I did within 24 hours. I called the cc company, Discover, and asked them to stop payment. They said they could not stop it until it went through, so I should cancel by email so as to preserve the date and time of cancellation, which I immediately did. I also requested a copy of the contract since I never got one. At first Discover was for me and reversed the charge. Then they began to talk with Aspire, who wrote a letter to them, and changed their minds. I was charged $1500 dollars.
At this point I opened a dispute with Discover, and we went back and forth for a few months. They would rule in my favor, then Aspire would rebutt and they would rule against me. The cc finally told me I had not cancelled by mail, therefore was not in compliance with the cancellation policy of Aspire. They told me if I had anything new to add to the case they would revisit the dispute. A few weeks later I came across an email in my inbox that said I could try out the program (Aspire) for 2 weeks, and it showed I cancelled on the 13th day. I sent this to them, along with the original email of cancellation, the email for request of contract, and the names of several people who I spoke with after cancelling. I was told I needed to have the name and confirmation number of cancellation and to "go ahead and use the service since your going to be paying for it." I asked Discover what exactly, I was paying for, since I recieved no service at all. I told them in order to be a valid contract there must be a valid exchange of something of equal value. There was none. I asked them how, if I only had 72 hours to cancel, was I to do that by mail? I was told there is express shipping at the post office and should have paid for that. I told her I did not have the money to do that, and she said, well you had choices.
Since then, I had been contacted by a consumer advocacy agency, several times. They said they were going to prove the company was a scam and get my money back. (This ruined my credit.) They seemed very interested in my dilemma, and I emailed all the paperwork to the agent representing me. I have not heard from her since. I have left emails for the company, but as of today, there has been no response. I am unsure what to think. Since then, I also found the name and confirmation of the person who did my cancellation in my emails, just as Discover wanted, but am unsure how to proceed bc my dispute has been closed. It seems to me there is something wrong with this picture, but I am at a loss on what to do next. The information Discover asked for I was in possession of the whole time but didnt know it, bc the whole thing just got out of hand so quickly. I am not paying 1500$ and for nothing when I was within my right to cancel. I did what Discover told me to, then they would not accept their own request, but instead told me I should have done something different, which I actually had, but overlooked. And now some agency who was supposed to help me and solicited me ,is running around with all my private info. Like I told Discover, I have never had,nor used a credit card. This was my first time, and I hate to have my credit ruined bc I may, or may not, have made a mistake.
