Just to give everyone a heads up and prevent anyone from making the same mistake I did, do not hire Shawn Rye with Arrow Construction LLC. I recently hired him to do a large job that he said he could do for $35k. We allegedly ran into several unforeseen issues. I say “allegedly” because I never actually saw some of the unforeseen issues, just took his word for it. Each time something came up, I asked how much more it would cost and he would respond with something along the lines of (don’t worry about it, I’ll take care of you), leading me to believe he was taking a loss with the expectation of making up for it with future jobs and many referrals. Eventually, I offered another $5k on top of the original agreed amount plus I took on a portion of the scope of work in the contract. After all the unforeseen issues were taken care of, work came almost to a stand still. Each week, for four weeks in a row, he would tell me they’ll be done by the end of the week and each week he had an excuse for why they were not done. Finally on the fourth week he said 100% for sure done by the end of the week. I stopped in on wednesday of that week to check on progress, no one was there working and hardly anything had gotten done. I finally lost my patients and told him he needed to be done in the next few days like he said he would be. At this point I only owed a little over $2k toward the agreed upon amount but he got very upset and told me he wasn’t going to finish the job because he won’t work for someone that doesn’t appreciate all that he does.
Then he starts claiming I owe him $75k more for all the extra work that he did and he was going to place a mech. lien on the property to prevent me from selling it but he would settle for just paying his men’s wages for the week. I’m pretty sure he was just trying to shake me down for more money. He refused to show me any receipts nor would he give me a W9. I’ve been told that at least 1 of his men hadn’t been paid by him for that entire month so I don’t know where all the money went that I gave him because it was supposed to be for labor and materials. A couple days later I went to the house and the back door was completely broken down and almost everything that wasn’t already installed was gone. Vanities, toilet, tub, drywall, flooring, ect… I filed a police report and spoke with the neighbors. One next door neighbor heard loud banging in the back yard between 6pm and 6:30pm. The other next door neighbor has a ring doorbell that captured his truck and trailer in my driveway around 6:42pm of the same night. I’m not saying it was him that broke in but you can decide for yourself. Besides all of this, his work is absolutely subpar. The drywall was terrible, plumbing was a joke, and framing was amateur at best. So I know this was long but just want everyone to know to stay far away from him.
