I signed my son up for football for his first season this season. His team made up of a lot of first year football players went 4-1 in their age group and on 11/6 they were supposed to face off against the Arizona Boxers who were at the time undefeated. The Boxers showed up to the game with kids who looked like they belonged in the 12 year old age group who looked like they surpassed the weight limit by a lot and they showed up without their certification book to certify these kids age and weight. According to the AZYSL rule book failure to have your certification by game time results in a forfeit. The field monitor called the game a forfeit which would have put our team in first place even with that our coach agreed to scrimmage the Boxers. The referees did a terrible job of controlling the Boxers team and their parents. The kids on the Boxers team were taking cheap shots on our children blocks in the back, hits on the ground, hits out of bounds etc and the refs failed to call these. During the game there are supposed to be no parents on the field only coaches and refs. The Boxers had parents on their sidelines that were yeliing at our children calling them the B word and refs failed to follow the rule book again and have them removed from the game. The Boxers showed up with a bunch of gang member looking people and created a terrible environment for our children and other children at the game. The referees ended up calling the game at half time as it was just a scrimmage and the forfeit had already taken place. Immediately after this AZYSL refused to accept the forfeit even though the field monitor called it there were witnesses and the Boxers broke one of the rules that lead to a forfeit. With this happening the league cancelled the playoffs for the 9 year old team because the Boxers refused to play us again. This is ridiculous seeing as how there are three other teams that made the playoffs and should have had the opportunity to play in the playoffs instead of looking out for those teams the league decided that they would save on trophies cancel the playoffs offer a "bowl game" where there would be no trophies presented. The AZYSL league failed our kids here they did a terrible job of handling this situation they protected a team that should have been punished and left everone out in the cold. My advice would be to avoid this league at all cost the league is not active on game days they do not look out for every team in the end your child will work hard three nights a week for three months only to go through something like this.
