I'm currently a veteran and homeless here on the streets in Arizona and due to the fact I had to possibly go to a shelter or a crisis center I asked a friend of mine who's also another veteran if I could put my stuff in her storage unit which she obliged. When we went there to get some stuff out of my storage unit she could not get in because she was locked out. Turns out due to her being behind on her payment they would not allow her access to the storage unit. But to my surprise when I asked them about access to the storage unit to retrieve my possessions they said they would not allow that to happen. Everything that I own the last of what I own that hasn't been taken away from me is in that storage unit including personal documents social security numbers banking statements etc and belongings that are very personal and intimate to me. However the law here I guess or state law city law or personal business law that they can actually keep the belongings of somebody that was not a customer. I am beyond outrageously livid about this situation. And I really want to seek compensation for the emotional and psychological stress this is caused it's bad enough and hard enough being on the streets but to have the last of my belongings taken away stuff that's irreplaceable is not only wrong but is unjust. It should be illegal it should be theft. I wrote the manager an email last night he's playing the situation very quarterly and ask him if you'd please allow relief to allow me to get my possessions and he refused to this should not be legal I understand if you are a paying customer even then I don't think it should be legal but I understand but being a non-customer just somebody who put his stuff in there for a few days and came to get it and to have it taken away from me and it's legal is not right. My advice is avoid storage units at all costs I've lost everything that I had in Alaska to storage unit I lost everything that I had in Florida to a storage unit and I fought tooth and nail my family has kept on insisting I should get a storage unit temporarily not only are they a rip off because of the price is outrageous but some of them like this place is run down has mice droppings rat droppings is not climate controlled and your stuff is exposed to the inclement weather patterns as such as the building floods and your stuff can get destroyed yeah I believe they charge $80 a month plus tax for this rundown box to put your stuff in.
