My EX mother in law received a letter stating I owed $2400 from Bonton Department Store. I had to look up what Bonton Department Store was because I had never heard of it. First of all, I have never lived at or given out my ex mother in laws address. Second, I noticed that there are no bonton department stores south of Pennsylvania....I'm in Texas. I checked my credit report to see if someone had stollen my identity but it does not appear on my credit. That's when I decided to google ARA inc and found nothing but others stating its a scam. I kind of have the urge to call and mess with those low life pos's...
I was contacted today by a Mrs. Bowman who stated that she was representative of the county in my area and that she would be showing up to my job and home to serve legal papers. she also called my father to say the same thing. when I asked for details around my account and who she represented she told me that if i shut up she would tell me.I then asked her not to contact me or my family members and that she would need to send me a statement in the mail about what i owed. she hung up on me. when i called her back at the number she left she said that there was another individual from accounting on the line and when I repeated that she threatened to come to my job and home she said "we would never embarrass our clients like that" and informed her that she left that on my voicemail and that it was recorded she hung up. when i called her back she recited my work address and home address asked me which one i was at and when i didn't respond she said she was on her way. I also filed a report with the federal trade commission but i wanted to make sure people knew about this company. 855-228-0273 extension 209 is where Mrs Bowmnn called me from. Beware!!!
I received a letter from ARA Inc stating that if I did not contact their office within 30 days and had Mark farmer extension 3402 so I called them and tried to speak with mr. Farmer but got no answer left a voicemail he never returned my call when I call back the second time I was I was connected with several Representatives finally speaking with Samuel Douglas he explained to me that I owed debt amount of $1,653 from 2000 and the last payment was 2006 told him I didn't owing it and asked him for proof of what I owed he refused to give me proof then I called back a third time and he said that he was taking me and my husband to court July 9th at 10 he tried to say that me and my husband both would have to pay this debt we also search the internet for the company ARA Inc and it come up that it was a scam there has been several people scam by this company and I just want to do this report to keep any body from being scammed like I almost was I tried to send a picture of the letter that I received from ARA Inc if you need the picture just contact me with the phone number provided or email address and I will be more than happy to send a copy of the actual letter that I received about this debt
My son has been deceased for over a year and after his death I took care of all his finacial responsibilities the same as I did for 10 years before he passed and he never had any credit any where he was on disability. Recieved a bill for 1866.95 from a collection agency in his name never heard of original creditor. Hsbc Bank- Orchard bank. Why would I hear from a collection agency when I never heard from the so called Original Creditor in ten years. Mark Farmer at ext.3402 is the signor on letter. Please be aware it has to be a scam!
I received a notice of a collection issue with a creditor I have never heard of. Before panicking I decided to check here and of course, there are multiple listings from individuals that have had the same issue. Whoever this Mark Farmer guy is needs to be investigated.
ARA Inc sent me a letter tellin me I would them $12,790 for an old car loan. The car was stolen my insurance company paid off Household Bank back in early 2000, they are telling me they are going to put a lean on my bank account. This claim was paid by my insurgence company Liberty Mutua.
This morning i recieved a call from Discover . They said i owed on my account. While on the phone i went on -line and checked my account which was currant.
The person i was speeking to spoke so fast he was barly understandable and i could not get a word in edgewise, He was going on and on about my second account, wanted info on my wife and so on, i finally hung up on him.
So, i was so pissed off to be blunt, i called Discover to find out that,
1. Discover never called me
2. They did have a second account but it was closed in 1998
3. In 1998 they asertained that account was not mine, hence it being closed
4. I am in good standing with Discover
5. Discover stated there was a 3rd party trying to collect on non existant accounts and it was not Discover
6. Discover said to ignore them
Well my phone retained the number that i recieved the call from and i looked it up and it was from some company called ARA collections in Illinois.
I called the number and sure enough it was answered and stated it was ARA.
ARA stated that they were Discover card, they are not, and according to the real Discover card company they would never call first but mail a letter or E-mail
a customer first.
Even though ARA had a lot of personal information ,which concern's me, they are scam artists
If i do hear from them again im going after them as they commited fraud just by stating they were Discover Card Services
Want me to pay 4,000 10/30/2017 to clear a ge capital bill an another bank card i never. they pay ge capital than both are clear.they said they me something in mail, that a lie
This is my second time some rip off company tried to get me to pay for something that was paid off 10 yrs ago. I have talked to them in the past and they do sound like there going to get your money but it doesnt happen . why cant someone go to the locations and find out if there is someone there or not .
On, or about, 14 August 2017, ARA made a phone call to my son’s phone and started pressuring him about an account that I had from 1995 to 2005. The account was closed and written off over 12 years ago.
My son gave me the phone, and they started high pressure tactics on me. They had my SSN, Driver’s license number, address, vehicle license and credit history. They did not have my phone number. They threatened liens on my house. They threatened freezing my bank accounts and garnishing my income. They threatened taking me to court. In a weak, frustrated, moment I gave them my card number and information and authorized the payment.
I, then, performed a cursory search and found that ARA is not what they claim to be. They are a collection company whose name is passed around to whoever wants to attempt to collect money from idiots like me. They are violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act by using strong-arm tactics and deceit to trick people.
They even sent me a receipt for another person’s payment. After receiving the correct receipt that I was supposed to sign and return, I did not sign and/or return it. They have no receipt.
They claimed that they recently obtained and are now the legal owner of my Mellon bank account. And as of today I owe them $20,558.63. Problem is Ive never got any money from Mellon bank. When i told them this , i was threatened with prosecution.
I get letter from this company to pay unknow original creditor President firdt lady owe $1088.97 . Looks like they have old my name and sos # and they asked me to pay bill, I asked to them for original tell # for creditor and but they do not provided it , I think this surly scanmy to looking for money.
Received a collection notice that I owe Sprint $5, 129.50. I've never had phone service with Sprint. I called Sprint and they have no account with my name or ss#. These people are complete jerks? They hung up on me several times and told me to pay my bill!
ARA, Inc sent me a letter saying they were a collection agency that I owe 1,556.00 from sprint ltd local home ph bill, I have never ever had sprint as a phone carrier and have not had a home phone for 15 years we have cell phones and Verizon has always been my phone carrier. How is it allowed for these people to continue to send these type of letters to people? I googled the company name there are a lot of scam reports from this company.
On June 19, 2017 I rec'd a request from ARA Collection requesting that I pay $8789.59 to them for a bad account opened in August 1998 and closed in 2007. The agent, Mr. Justin Gary, said that the account was with Elder Beerman Department Store and that I had maintained the payments for 9 years. Further, that the account was sold to them after several other collections agencies had attemted to collect the owed money.
I requested forward me a copy of the original papers opening the account and list of when and where the payments were rec'd. I also request a record of how the payments were made. He said he couldn't give me that information and the information would only be forwarded to Berkeley County (my county of residence). When I asked what that meant and where in Berkeley County the information would be sent, he said he couldn't provide that information.
Mr. Gary then told me he would get one of his superiors to talked to me. He left me on hold for a while and then said there was no one available and he would call me back. I have not rec'd that call.
I have never heard of Elder Beerman Department and I certainly have never had a charge account in the $8K range.
ARA INC. called me. They said I had a FIRST USA BANK card. in 1995. It had my social security number on it. I told them. I never had a First USA BANK card. Some one else had it and some how got a hold of my social security number. They said they was going to file a judgement against me if I didn't pay it. Them I got a letter from them. Saying they obained the account and wanted me to pay them $ 1,941.06. They also called again. A Mark FARMER. In the letter it said to call him at 888-409-5060 ext. 3402. When he called he asked me if I had a First USA Bank card. I told him no. I never had a FIRST USA BANK card. I am on a fixed income. I am 73 years old and I am barley getting by. I am on social security. It takes ever thing I get just to get by.
The account number was . I have been married 3 times. One of my ex- wifes could have done it.
ARA Inc. sent me a letter stating that I owed $1,731.57 to presidents health club. I called ARA and told the person I had never heard of that company and did not owe them anything. After several minutes of back and forth the lady stated that she would update my account and the call was ended. These people had my ss# and an address from 20 years ago. Anyone that knows me would be less surprised of me going to Mars than of me joining a health club.
I was contacted on 3/21/17 by Asset Recovery Associates about a credit card debt that I supposedly owed. It was listed under my former married name. They said I owed $2500.00 from 1983 & 1991.
They said the debt is from a furniture company that I nor my current husband have never heard of nor bought from. I called the furniture company & talked to the credit department. They were very nice. They have no record of me ever buying anything from them.
The furniture company is based in Texas. All furniture I ever bought was bought within 50 miles of our home in Ohio. I have never been in Texas as an adult.
Asset Recovery Company had my & my current husbands' ss numbers, my former address, our current address, and a couple of our complete credit card numbers. I never gave him any of these numbers.
ARA threated to block our credit cards so we could not charge anymore than what is already on them. The guy even knew the balance on the one credit card.
He also threatened to put the $2500.00 on the credit card, if we refused to pay.
I received there letter for debt collection so I called and they talked me into giving them all my info. Bank account,s.s. number..so I will b stopping all action from them at the bank tomm...this debt they claim I owe is 22 years old ..these jerks need to go to jail now I'll have to pay for so they don't use my identity.
We got a call from this person, scam artist and rude. Threatening to cancel all our accounts. He had info on my opened accounts, ss#. His phone he said was 8886869475 ext 3068.
I received a collection letter from ARA Inc trying to collect on an auto loan from a creditor called Search Financial Auto loans. They claim the balance is $7657.00. When I called, I spoke to John Powers @ ext 3068 who tried to tell me it was on a vehicle that was repossessed in Jan 2000. That vehicle was paid off in 2001 and traded in for a new vehicle in 2002. I was then transferred to amy "auditor" after I explained ed the details of that vehicle. At that point the auditor stated that it was NOT for the vehicle that was traded in but for a vehicle that was purchased in the 1990's!! When I asked to give me details, she could not and very rudely said I would be "served" with a judgment in the next couple of days. Total scam!
I received a letter a few weeks ago saying that I owe a clothing creditor over $8,000. I sent it back to them stating that I didn't owe the debt they are trying for as I had a small credit card & that was paid off just about 20 years ago.
Well, this morning I get a call at my job from ARA Rep giving me my SS #, mortgage co & car info. How I owed the creditor and a notice for garnishment would be sent to human resources dept and a lien put against my home. I closedmy office door and went in on the caller how I don't know how they got my info and/or calling me especially my job for a BOGUS debt & that I was not the one to fall for it. Caller hung up. So I called the number back.
When I called them back I was put on hold by a couple of reps asking my issue then transferred to legal dept. the 1st one must couldn't handle it so another person got on named Logan being nasty & trying to get loud & threatening as if I would back down, but I gave him the book. Just because they bought an old list of charge offs, etc and thinking they are going to collect anything from me was crazy and if he or they thought they had a legit case why hasn't it been taking to court, etc. coming up after almost 20 yrs after debt paid off and then said Don't Contact Me Again because I will be going after them for harassment for this fraudulent debt. So take me to court and I will handle it from there & then I hung up.
I contact the so called creditor that they claimed bogus debt from as it had been paid off and they apologized for this situation. They had succesfully emerged from bankruptcy under new ownership and all accounts prior to that they no longer have access to (never owned the banks that put that credit card out) and all accounts from old company were permenantly closed in 2014.
I looked at my credit report and see where ARA had done an inquiry on me in July 2015 which is right after I did my 1st credit card application in over 10 years for Capital One (how odd).
I received a letter from ARA, Inc. {Contact person Mark Farmer ext 3402} for 11,042.61 for an auto loan they said was from 1998. I said there was NO auto loan from 1998, and asked what I could do to clear up the matter. Me referred me to a female (I don't remember her title or name, if she gave one).
I told the female I had not taken out an auto loan nor had I had any credit in my name for nearly 30 years, and had applied for & received a line of credit within last 2-3 weeks. I asked, again, how this mistake could be rectified. The female said that they had to get a judge to get a court order to verify my signiture & a judgement had been authorized for the stated amount. However, she said, they would accept four thousand and some odd dollars, if I paid today. I told her I was retired on social security, as was my husband. I advised her my last name was different in 1998, so how could they have verified the signature of Cynthia Lyon if it wasn't Lyon until 1999, when I married my husband? She verified my current address and social security number, then asked if I had lived on certain streets, she named 2 or 3, none of which I'd lived on. When I paused to recall where which streets I'd resided on, she asked why I paused, and she suggested that I was having an "ah ha" moment, and said I was not being honest with her. I advised her one of the streets my parents had lived on, but they had since deceased, she asked if I'd ever received mail at the address & quoted a number on the street, and I said I did not recall the street number, and asked how the mistake could be clarified. She insisted I had to make payments and said "You mean to tell me you can"t come up with" the four thousand plus dollars "between now and the next month?" When I huffed out a "Ha!" she said "Why are you laughing, this is not funny." I agreed, and she asked me again, "Then why did you laugh?" I told her that her assertios were "ludicrous" and she said "Well, I find it ludicrous that you find this matter funny." She again said, "You are not not being honest with me."
The female"s tone of voice was sarcastic, demanding and very threatening. When I asked the make and year of the car I was supposed to have bought, and the company who financed it. She said she did not have that information about the make of the car and said there "is no company, what do you mean company?"
When I said I was getting an attorney, she hung up on me.
It seemed odd to me that they had verified the signature of Cynthia Lyon, yet my last name was different when I was supposed to have financed an auto, and that they did not have information as to the make, model nor vehicle ID number. They had correct names of streets near where I had lived, but did not have the address of my residence when the auto was supposed to have been financed. I had attempted to establish credit in my name only approximately eight years ago, but this supposed debt did not appear on my credit records then, but it showed up only after I had been issuoed a credit card in only my name just stwo weeks prior to receiving this letter from ARA, Inc.
This company sent me a letter demanding that I remit $1,212.80. I called them and asked to speak to Mr. Mark Farmer. After being sent around to other numbers I finally spoke to a very nasty individual. I informed him that I am currently in Bankruptcy proceedings and they should not be bothering me. He said your attorney is not doing his job. I told him again that I AM INFORMING HIM OF the Bankruptcy and under the law he cannot communicate with me in any manner.
He go so upset he said "SHUT UP AND GO .... YOURSELF! He hung up the phone.
This company is a bunch of con artist! Don't let them intimidate you. They should be shut down for their illegal practices.
