BEWARE SELLS AUCTION HORSES

I bought a horse from Becky and Apple Creek Farm . I was not told he was from an auction in NC. SHe told me she had had him for a month and her daughter was riding him . She gave me the wrong coggins, I realized the horse was from and auction 5 days before I got him , He developed the worst case of shipping fever for 10 days and then a horrible resp. infection . Ive had him for 2 months and have ridden him twice. She is a total liar , scams and flips horses from auction. Just read back 5 yrs and her reputation. Sure she will have a person here and there that will defend her to the nines but the majority of people will attest that she is a scam artisit that lies to her customers and has no regard for the horse or the buyer.

I purchased a 9yo paint mare who was reported to be an easy to ride, safe for trail riding, appropriate for me at age 65 to do dressage. Had a complete prepurchase exam without drug test. That was a mistake! At my house she is flighty and afraid of any quick movements, very tense to ride in the ring, and completely scared to go trail riding alone.

I contacted her prior owner in PA who stated she was way too much horse to be considered a "family horse" and that is why she sold the mare. I contacted Becky Peckham to ask what bit to use as this horse simply shakes her head sideways, chomping at the bit and constantly opens her mouth. She stated that she just needed a fat snaffle. That has not helped at all. Do not trust this horse dealer.

It took me some time to be calm enough to write this in a decent, proffessional manner, because lord knows I have some choice words to say to this dishonest, lying, stealing, cheating, scum of the earth. This has been a VERY emotional, disturbing and heartbreaking experience. I met Becky Peckham at New Holland Horse Auction in May 4, 2015. All of the horses she was selling were ABSOLUTELY gorgeous, though there was one that caught my eye over the others. I inquired about him and even rode him, he took a bad step which wasn't enough to raise an eyebrow at, so she then went on to tell my sister and I that he had just been kicked in the knee by another horse, there was no swelling or anything so we didn't give it any second thought. She assured us that this horse has never had any lameness issues and that he was great with kids, which was perfect for us, because we run a non-profit for inner city youth at risk. Peckham had maybe 4 or 5 horses at the auction at the time, and each one that went through the ring, she "No saled" it. She had her two daughters riding these horses through the auction arena, which is apart of her trap. She gave us this story of how she drove to Pennsylvania from MA. to take her children to Hershey Park, which they have never been and she said she was in a SUPER hurry to leave the auction and get there. I purchased one horse from her, we told her we'd send pictures of him and our program kids and keep her updated to how he was doing. All is well we thought. I went to ride the horse the next day, and he was head bobbing lame. His feet were a little long so I didn't panic too much. I called the number that she had given me and it was disconnected. I shot her an email, and it was kicked back to me in error. Then, I sarted to panic. I had our Vet make an emergency visit, she performed a lameness exam and X-Rays. The X-rays showed that he had recently foundered in both front feet but there was minimal rotation, more in one foot than the other. With high hopes of no grain, not too much grass, and corrective shoeing, we thought he would be okay. My sister decided to google her name to find contact info for her and what do we see? A whole history of rip off reports. But, we still continued to look on the brighter side of things, with farrier visits every 4 weeks, reverse shoes, to bar shoes, to bar shoes with pads, multiple vet visits and x-rays over 4 months, still no soundess. At this point, I was worried more worried about the horses sake, and not so much for him fitting into the program. How could he be comfortable and how could we keep him comfortable was a daily battle. I then decided that the best bet for this sweet boy was to be put down. Running him through the auction again and selling him "AS IS" wasn't an option, I wouldn't put someone through that kind of madness. I was also worried, if that happened, would they keep up on his feet, diet, etc. and I didn't want the killers to buy him, so putting him down after investing close to $5k in vet bills and farrier bills seemed to be the best option. EVERYONE, Do yourself a favor and donn't purchase anything from Becky Peckham-Accord or from Apple Creek Stables, EVER!!!! She has a history of changing her name and the farm name. Do not become a victim, because this heartless B**** has no remorse for any living creature!!

Auction

So she brings a horse in to sell for another farm. The horse sells in As-Is condition. You buy under that condition. And your mad at her? I don't get it!?!?

Apparently I did not do all of my research on Apple Creek Farm or Becky Peckham prior to considering purchasing a horse from her.

I had just started the process of looking for a horse, particularly a Warmblood, when I came across a big, beautiful Mecklingburg mare in Northfield MA. This horse in pictures and video was a perfect first horse for my daughter. I should have done some additional research on the breed of this horse as the website lists her as a Mecklingburg warmblood. There is in fact no such thing. There is however a Mecklenburg warmblood.

That would have been a red flag, a seller not knowing what they are selling.

So I set up an appointment with Becky to go and see the horse. Her daughter warmed her up and I noticed a little head bob at the trot but thought she may simply be warming up (it was 32 degrees out). This horse was as sweet as the day is long. Would do anything you asked her to and would do flying lead changes before you even asked. After her daughter warmed her up I rode her. Then my daughter rode her. Same thing sweet as the day is long. Becky went on and on about her temperment and how her own young daughter could ride her.

After the tryout we brought her back into the tack area and talked about her more. I wanted to check out her feet. She wasn't wearing an shoes so I assumed her feet were tough and healthy. So one by one I asked Vegas to pick up her feet so I could look at them. This also gave me an idea about how her ground manners were.

Awesome ground manners. BUT when I got to her Left front foot there was SIGNIFICANT heat behind her cannon bone. I asked Becky why there was so much heat in her leg and she indicated to me that the horse had an old torn ligament but that it had healed and she had it ultrasounded to be sure.

So I left there kind of hoping that maybe she was typically sound and was just having an off day. But then we had done barely anything with her (had ridden her no more than 40 minutes very lightly) and it was raging hot. Before I left it was mentioned to me that other buyers were coming in the next day and to get back with her as soon as possible. I then texted her the next day to get a copy of the ultrasound information. Never heard anything back.

So Just an FYI for all potential horse buyers out there....any permanent damage to a horse that may cause issues in the future should be reflected in the horses description on any sales website. Also take your time when buying. Have your vet come and check the horse over completely prior to purchasing OR have it written into a contract that full payment will be returned to the buyer if significant issues are found after a vet check that was not done prior to purchase.

I feel bad for this lovely horse Vegas. I hope that she finds a nice forever home.

Vegas

Vegas did sell the next day. That is why you did not get a copy of the ultrasound. She passed a by check perfectly and the vet was the buyers vet. The buyer keeps in touch still and says Vegas is perfect, sound, safe and as reliable as any horse they have ever known. So the injury was disclosed to you and if you were interested you should have acted faster. You knew others were coming the next day. So are you really bitter that you missed a opportunity at a really great horse? I think so.

I drove up to see this horse with a loose appointment because of the very negative reviews I found online about the farm owner. I decided to give her the benefit of the doubt and took the long drive in the pouring rain. Sure enough, when she told me to walk ahead and hang my saddle, I took 2 steps and turned back to find her injecting the horse the minute I seemed to be walking away.

I actually saw her do it! When I asked if she had just given the horse anything, she flatly said No! I then stuck my hand in her pocket and pulled out a big Empty syringe! Thank you to all the thoughtful folks who take the time to write reviews. I will make a point of writing more of them in the future.

BUYER BEWARE!!!!!!!! DO NOT BUY HORSES FROM THIS FARM OR THESE PEOPLE. If i could rate this farm a zero i would. These people are liars and falsely advertise horses. They specifically market horses for junior riders and then sell dangerous horses to unsuspecting buyers. Because they are this lovely mother and daughter team they immediately gain your trust because what mother would sell a dangerous horse for a child. They will. Once you come to realize the horse is not appropriate for your child they say they will take it back and give you 50% credit towards another one of their horses which convienently there is nothing in that price range forcing you to spend more money or go down a different path. They have resorted to selling horses under the daughters name Taylor Wyman because the mother Becky Peckham also known as Becky Shapiro also known as Becky Accord is known in the horse world as a complete scam artist who learned all the tricks of the trade from Strain Farms. They have also Changed the name of the farm several times. Please do your research as we did not. You will find countless reports of people being ripped off and scammed. DO NOT BUY HORSES FROM THESE PEOPLE!!!

She has been married. First time was Acord, second was Peckham and she has since been divorced and has gone back to her maiden name. She has not changed her farm name in the last 5 years. Taylor does all of the advertising on facebook as Becky is not as technically savvy as Taylor is. They are a great team who DO take pride in their horses. Look around their farm, do you see a skinny/sick horse there? Didn’t think so. You were unhappy with your purchase? How many times did you try/ride the horse? Once? Twice even? They allow clients to come out multiple times if they please. They encourage PPE’s. They are very helpful and have helped me get over 20+ hoses for my lesson program over the last 20 years! I wouldn’t horse shop anywhere else!

We had planned to buy a horse from Becky at the beginning of October. We put deposit down and everything was subject to vet check/ PPE. It was noted that we put the deposit down and when we picked her up, we paid for the horse and shpuld there be any medical/vet problems, she would take the horse back. She passed PPE, but was noted by vet that she had girth itch/funal bacteria along the girth area. We got her home and began riding her. The alleged "girth itch" had gottten worse and had now become open sores and raw flesh. The bumps were large and spreading all over. We became concerned and finally had our vet come out and see what was going on.

She took skin scrapings and hair to send to the lab to see what this actually was. When the results came back, she was diagnosed with a disease called Blastomycosis, which is an infection caused by the fungal organism Blastomyces dermatidis. The disease usually results in respiratory infection; however, the organism can cause disease in many body tissues including the eyes, skin, reproductive tract, and bones. Blastomycosis is a serious disease that can be fatal.

We contacted Becky explaining what had happened and the horror of the skin disease out horse now had, and all she said is that she would take it back on consignment. She flat out said that she wouldnt take the horse back and that her daughters horse had it and they treated it and it went away.

It has been two weeks now and it is hardly looking better and the treatment cost is outrageous. She has no concern for the horse that came off of her property of concern for the other animals where this horse is now stabled. She has scammed us for out money (we knew we were paying more than the horse was worth, but she had great potential and a great attitude. everything seemed to be working out so nicley until we got her home), she is now saying she wont take the horse back, and if she does take it back, it will be on consignment for her to scam other people and make even more money!

Fungus

Sounds to me like she went above necessary. She was going to take the horse and sell for you. I know a lot of other sellers that would have hung the phone up on you. As far as a fungus goes there is a thing called girth rot. Very contagious. Could it possibly be they though is was that and was treating best they thought?? I feel you are bashing with no right.

drugged horse

My clients had gone out to purchase a horse from this barn without my consent. They had tried this Ottb gelding who just seemed perfect for their daughter wanting to move up. They decided to buy him, unfortunately he wasnt super sound up front but not head bobbing. As time went on he got hotter and spookier. He was treated for Lyme, and ulcers as well as getting his hocks, SI, and Back injected. Nothing helped his spooky and unpredictable behaviors. I believe he was drugged and very falsy advertized, no to mention definitely not sound. Its so sad to me as a professional that innocent people just wanting a nice horse for their daughter had to be completely scammed by people like this. I also feel bad for all the horses that have to go through this place
