It was a very busy week in Paris and I needed a room. Managed to find one for USD 300 for one night on Amoma (via Trivago). Put in my credit card details, they took the money and about 2 mins later I get an email that the room was no longer available and they would refund the money within 5 days. Now nearly 6 weeks later and they still havent refunded it despite sending me a second email to say its on the way. Luckily Amex is taking up the fight with them so I wont owe the money.
I travel all the time o business and have booked hotels with many different sites. This has never happened before. I need to stay away from fly by night companies like this.
AMOMA.com - is based in Switzerland (per se) is an on-line travel company that posts hotels around the world for bookings and room reservations. However. they do not receive authorization from the hotel to sell such room reservations and only gets the booking from international travel agent partners. The travel agent partners are the holder of your room reservation but Amoma.com is the holder of your money if you are the one who books a room through their website. What looks like a great deal is a scam. Amoma.com sells you a room. The hotel does not receive the booking. The booking could be made but if so it will be last room (worst room) sold. If you cancel it will not be processed for a month. A fee also is applied to all cancellations. Hotels in general will not work with AMOMA.com and hotels if bookings are received by Amoma.com are rejected. Amoma.com will even try to sell you a hotel that is not even valid. Change the name of the hotel so it’s not obvious or easy for you to find so you are out of luck when you want even stay at the hotel!
** All, I know all of the above because I own and operate a hotel in San Francisco, along with other hotel GM's and Sales teams we all continue to fight against Amoma.com as they are fraud, scammers, a re-seller of re-sold rooms. They don't track or care about your booking, your hotel reservation or even offer a fair value for a room that is quite possible the last and worse room at any hotel. But, Amoma.com loves to take your money and then have you fight for it to be refunded. Several of our hotel guests that have booked through Amoma.com and in doing so have been REJECTED on the booking as it was not processed. Meaning if a hotel room is booked by AMOMA.com, the HOTEL you are to stay at will reject the stay, send Amoma.com an email (that is never answered) and inform the guest they need to contact Amoma.com for a refund.
It is always just like airfare and car rentals, GO and book your room directly with the hotel, airline or car rental company. They are directly under your control, you have completed direct contact with the company you will use. The cost may be a dollar higher but so much less headaches if issues arise!
I booked a hotel through Amoma.com (got there through Kayak, who I'm disappointed with for making Amoma seem trustworthy). They confirmed my reservation but then sent a "voucher" I was supposed to give to the hotel -- which seemed a little shady to me. So I called the hotel and they did not have my reservation on file. I called Amoma to tell them this and they said to wait a few days for it to get into the hotel's system.
I called the hotel back a few days later. Still nothing. I called Amoma and they said they "were just about to contact me" Yeah right! They told me that the hotel was overbooked and they had to put me somewhere else, two miles away from the original -- unacceptable -- and I wouldn't have trusted that reservation either! I was attending a conference and their false promise caused me a lot of undue stress and wasted time I could've spent finding a hotel.
Don't use them!!! Luckily I got a refund. Bad practices all the way around with Amoma.

A charge showed up on my account for $357 from Amoma hotel booking. I did not reserve any hotel room. This is a fraudulent charge.
