I attended API in 2012 for the Medical Billing and Coding program. When I first signed up fo the program, we had an option to have our student refund deposited into our banks, that never happened. I attended for 8 months, then I went out to do my clinicals at a local private owned holistic doctors officce.
I complained to them about the way I was being treated at that location and they were looking for me another location to finish. I had about 16 hrs left to complete my clinicals and get my certificate when I received a call from my instructor saying that they had just recieved notification that the school was bankrupt and they were closing their doors at the end of the month and I didn't need to come back.
A couple of years goes by and I relocate back to my home town and try to enroll into the local technical college and that's when I was told that I had outstanding balances for student loans. I go online to file for a loan forgiveness because the school closed down and I was denied.
I was able to talk to someone and they explained that the reason that I was denied forgiveness is because the school did not close down, they were still oporating but they just changed the name of the school. I explained to her the situation and she told me nothing could be done because they were still in business. I received the repot, and they changed the school name to HELMS COLLEGE, whaich was operating in my hometown, I was pissed.
Me and hundreds of students were left with thousaands of dollars in debt from a scamming school who took all of that money and left us with the bill and no certifications, no records, no nothing and nothing could be done about it. I wish I had proof because I would sue their a** real quick for all of the thousands that I had to pay for nothing and the stress and mental anguish they caused.
I'm very upsetting that I could get my taxes refund back I was homeless sleeping in my car my daughter almost got taking I want my money what I paid it needs to off my record.

I remember having to take the entrance exam and I failed it but he still admitted me to the medical assistant program ..it was my mother and i. We had to go to the finicial aid office and I was told I wouldn't have to pay anything by this older women .. who later ran off with everyone's refund check and was never seen again .. later we had to refill our financial aid with another person but, this time I had to pay 5,000.00 back which would have been fine if they actually let my mother and I walk but , that's didn't hapen ! We never received our free laptop either . To this day I have never received a diploma but have my transcripts with all a's and had to pay back all that money and even had my taxes taken one year being a parent of two ..I was distraught .. I just want wants rightful mine ..I want my dipolma in medical assisting
